    What? Wait!

You're supposed to do something between... 1 and 3 before you grab the 4# hammer and start beating the crap out of it?

    1. Observation of a problem or issue the truck is having

    2. Hypothesis ( a testable statement)

    3. Experiment -  Repair or attempt at fixing the issue

LOL, thanks for making me laugh!

When I throw out the scientific method I do favor the G.A.B.H. method, I learned from a gunsmith = get a bigger hammer.

  2. O.K. I know some of you are thinking why is he talking about a series on Netflix about Chess?

    Well this is why.......

My background is in Science. I have a Master's Degree in Molecular Biology. I know how to use the scientific method.

If you look at what we do with our semi's it is a lot of:

    1. Observation of a problem or issue the truck is having

    2. Hypothesis ( a testable statement)

    3. Experiment -  Repair or attempt at fixing the issue

    4. Outcome - Does experiment or repair A lead to B or C or D or possibly done.

    5. Solution, if all goes well.

    6. Conclusion - I will make sure next time before I leave the garage / storage unit / yard before I go on that trip I will do the following or check the following........

The above follows how I teach the scientific method to high school students.

Same in the movie about Chess. You could always see the wheels turning in the Chess Grand Masters head. - Observation / Problem / Solution......

If you watch the movie you will see the same personality types on there, that you see on the forum. The people who watch what is going on, the guys who are truly gifted at what they do, the guys who give great advice and inspire us to do more to our trucks along with the others.

So it you get a chance watch the series on Netflix "Queens Gambit." The series is based on a book.

Congratulations! It takes time, but that part of the fun is actually planning and making the plan happen.

I have about 6,000 in repairs and tires on my project.   I did use it for hauling corn at harvest this year, so it's at least helping cover it own repairs. Discovered a  few more things to be fixed, so another $900 this fall.   Lights and front cab bushings next year, and then can start on the extras.

    Good luck on your proeject!

    Chuck

I did cab bushings this summer, well my mechanic did cab bushings this summer I should have said.

  4. I was off from school for Nevada day weekend today. I called up my mechanic, Steve, at True Blue here in Vegas and took him and the guys in his shop and the shops that border his lunch. The only thing I have left to get done on my truck, before tires, is brakes and shocks on the front. I am only about 700.00 in parts and labor from a fully functional truck. Then 3000.00 for tires but I am excited to get to move on to cosmetic stuff, the fun stuff. Steve is going to help me find replacement interior parts, and will put them in for me, but now I am going to look for a train horn, chrome wheel covers and het my CDL. Then I will be taking my truck back to Kansas and I will drive it over to Dennis Kansas to let the guys over there have it for a while to work their magic on it. It has been a long 3 years of one project at a time then wait a couple of months save a few more do something small but I am getting there finally.

Sorry I hit the button twice.

I agree not what I would want in a boat, plus I would think it would be a little front end heavy with the hitch sticking out forward of the boat for the trailer hook up. It also never tells you even in the PDF of the options what the motor size is that comes with it.

The rear suspension also has several different holes on the bottom link of the air leveling ride.

    These holes change ride height.

My truck was on the very top hole, this required more air in the bags to achieve level.

I swapped to the lower hole, and less air = softer ride.

I also run my tires @95ps@95psi. all the way around.

I have a really dumb questions does the amount of air in the tire effect your gas mileage? Like I said I know it is a dumb question I was just wondering?

    Cory,

It seems you're not afraid to buy used, so I suggest looking for a Carriage C-Force or a Newmar X-Aire.  They're not easy to find, but good ones are out there and built like tanks.  I believe both went out of production in the 2008-2010 time frame.  Look for extras that don't usually cost extra in the used market.  For instance, paint rather than vinyl graphics, hydraulic disk brakes, generator, etc.  They won't have the gee-whiz features, but they'll serve you for a long time. If you're careful you can find one with a very important feature, no payments.

That said, if I were looking for something new, or close to new, I'd check out the DRV Full House.  Not sure they garage is as big as you want though.

Great advice thanks! Yes I buy a lot used!

  8. Trying to get more computer literate. I saw the instructions for the drag and drop screen. Please send me a thumbs up or something if it came through on your end. The picture has my old trailer. I sold it on consignment last year, saving to get a new fuzion 423 or maybe even a DRV of some kind, but I know I want a trailer that has a garage that is separated from the living quarters. Does anybody know of a maker that builds a 14 or 16 foot garage?

  9. Howdy all!

Well Vegas Teacher has been in the office teaching school all week. I have not had a chance to talk to everybody because at the end of the day I am worn out completely! I haven't read any posts for the last 3.5 weeks and have been so caught up in a program called "Canvas" we are using to teach with that it is like a new obsession.....

Anyway on to truck/tractor stuff. I know some like to call it a truck others like to call it a tractor so, just like in teaching I try to keep all sides happy!

Once again my new mechanic, Steve at True Blue Consulting and Repair is awesome!! He fixed my top sleeper window passenger side and put in a new DPF pressure valve for me. I brings my truck in and gives it a once over every day and looks for things that need to be done then sends me a list. At the end of September or first of October he is going to pull off the front wheels, replace brakes, shocks and leaf springs. My truck already rides like a new truck but it should be incredible when he has gone over everything, after that all that has to be done is tires and a 3 axle alignment and I should be road worthy. Southern Tire Mart is going to replace my tires and do the alignment.

If you are traveling through the Vegas area and have a funny rattle or something just doesn't seem correct on your truck and you need it fixed up call Steve at True Blue Mechanic Phone: (702) 979-8480, he is honest and awesome. After dealing with and going through what I did with Volvo / Mac, TEC dealership & mechanic True Blue is awesome!

Cory sorry took so long to answer. First off I sold my tractor life chances and went a different direction. Just turned 74 and to be honest DW never was thrilled with it.

Any I love the idea of making magnetic signs as you did. I did have signage and like most was 2 inch decals. Everybody is correct the signage is meaningless on the legal side of things. I can say though at least 3 times had Highway Patrol come up long side of me. Appeared to look at signage and went on their way. Was they going to stop me for whatever reason and decided not to bother because of signage and had better things to do, I don't know, like to think so.

When I was arguing with Commercial MVD about changing registration from Commercial to non commercial which in Arizona provide to be a lost cause. At one time they did and then stopped doing it I missed out on when it was allowed. One of the things they kept saying was I could easily start doing Commercial. I showed them the truck with the signage and the non commercial hitch and the 3 foot extension of the frame rails along with removal of glad hands and said not going to happen! They were not impressed. I think if had magnetic signs would have made it harder in States where you could change from Commercial to non commercial would be my only other concern. Other than that I love it!!!!!

Oh I stick around on this forum encase sometime maybe have some useful help and always entertaining!!!!!!!!

I appreciate your comment. I really like the part where you explain a highway patrol pulled up along side, read the sign and kept going. Like you I have also removed the commercial 5th and my glad hands. I think I am going to get my sleeper window taken care of next week. One project at a time. I am looking forward to the day I am out on the road with everybody else. Retirement for me is only 8 years. Like a friend told me I am down to being able to count the years on two hands, before I know it I will be on one hand.

I live in Vegas and have a Toyota Tundra. I go off road at Lake Meade and off of the beaten path a lot in the desert. BFG KO 2's are great. Two years ago driving across 40 at Christmas I got stuck in an ice storm on the highway in New Mexico. I am happy I had them for that too. I never slipped a tire once on the ice. I have been putting KO's on my trucks since early 2000. I started putting them on the Girl friends Nissan Frontier (now wife) way back then and have loved them ever since.

Plus if you buy them at Discount tire they will rotate them and balance them for a lifetime if you do the 10.00 a tire lifetime service agreement. I like this because before I leave her for vacation I go to discount and get my tires rotated and balanced. When I get to Michigan I get my tires rotated and balanced again for free, then when I get home I get my tires rotated and balance after the trip. Plus I get my air level checked about every 9 weeks all for free. I go in, visit with the people behind the desk, get a free cup of coffee and a bottle of water. Plus they are dog friendly. I take my German Shepherd in and train her while they are servicing my tires. People always ask about my training and why I am speaking German to my dog. I tell them it is for Schutzhund, but that is a whole other topic.

Between the water and the coffee Plus the shop labor / Man hours I have made back that $40.00 I spent to get the lifetime service agreement. Shoot I have more than likely drank enough coffee and had $40.00 in bottled water alone.
