  1. Still digging pebbles from Enchanted Trails out of the trailer...
  2. In Greenfield CA for a few more days at Yanks RV Resort. Really a nice park. All paved roads, concrete sites, concrete patio, up to 100' pull thru (like we're in) so you can have the toter, trailer, and smart all in the same place. Really well done. What's the catch? Well, some time within a few minutes of 4:00 PM, the wind will blow. Not talking a breeze here, I mean the wind blows like you're standing on the bow of a ship turned into the wind in a Nor'easter. Every day... and it's a bit pricey. That didn't bother us much, but at 4:00 PM, you're going to come in, so no cooking outside, no lawn furniture, no flags, nada. You can catch up on your reading. Next Thursday we leave for Forestville where we will be staying at the lovely Sonoma County Fairgrounds for about a week visiting friends.
  3. Decided on "Hitchin' Post Rv Park" just North of Las Vegas. Seems like the largest sites and manager seems nice on the phone. We'll see. Had a visit from the brother of someone on the forum. Brother's name (the one here) is Jim, didn't catch the wife's name, and didn't get the other brother's handle, but they were nice enough to stop by and let us know what we were getting into in Vegas. Seemed to think the park we chose was pretty good. Thanks. Does anyone have specific knowledge of Hwy 1 (Pacific Coast Hwy) headed north from Morro Bay. So far can't find any overt restrictions, but they are referred to several times. I figure we would be pushing the length limit but only in a few places. And cursed soundly for those unlucky few souls trapped behind us. Thanks Paul & Paula
  4. Currently in Williams, AZ. Trying to decide whether to leave the relative comfort of 98-100 degrees and head for the 110-114 temps at Las Vegas. Really don't want to be here for 10 more days, even though the park is nice enough. Last section of Route 66 to be bypassed by I-40. Went out on Crookton road today to look at the tourist trap. I don't recommend the cuisine. Meals, if you eat out in Williams, can be a little pricy. Grocery stores aren't much better. Typical 12oz package of Oscar Mayer bacon is $10.99 Anybody got a recommendation for a place to stay around Las Vegas? How about around Monterrey Bay? Best I could do is out around Gilroy. Thanks Paul & Paula
  5. After stopping on the North side of Houston to get an estimate on some self inflicted repairs, we've spent time at the Galveston Bay RV Resort and Marina in Dickinson (big concrete pads & roads, about 10 will work with HDT's, quiet, mostly pull through's, nice place, need a form) Be careful of the low hanging trees on the access roads. Also stayed at a place called Pecan Park RV Resort up in San Marcos. Trailer wheels almost fit in the crushed shell width. No pad. Nearly same price. Non disparagement clause in contract so can't say much, but suffice to say I do not need a form. We'll be headed back to Houston on Wedensday to have 3 slides installed and a TV antenna that I can't tear off, then on to somewhere near El Paso. Got any suggestions? Paul & Paula
  6. We'll be wandering around out there around the end of the summer. How long do you stay at WP? Used to have some property up in Divide but gave it up after gambling was legalized. Paul & Paula
  7. Update from the Little Campground: 4 meals at area restaurants. 1 really good, 2 don't go back, 1 just plain nasty. Great riding but chilly as all get out. Got in the park. Had 4 people helping me back into our spot. Had to come in cockeyed, got flustered, had to stop & take a deep breath (before I kilt somebody). That said, may get lucky and have to back the whole rig out into the public road because there is not enough room to turn around without a lot of back and forth. Oh boy!!! Paul
  8. I kinda figured that with only 4 sites maybe it would cut down on the riff-raff. DW informed me that I usually was the riff-raff. Rocky, ya shoulda waved when ya went by - I can see 60 miles... Paul
  9. Headed for a little tiny campground in Elk Park, NC called, appropriately enough, The Little Campground. Only get a week, thanks to Paula's work schedule. Ah well, December and retirement is not that far off!
  10. Will be at Candy Hill campground in Winchester, VA for a week starting 9/6/14. Wave & Honk or stop in.. Paul & Paula
  11. We looked at this site before we purchased our current truck, an F-450. I was trying to retire at the time and we weren't sure of how exactly the finances were gonna work out The finances worked out, the truck, not so much. A lot of decisions were made that affected our camping rig, not the least of which was the purchase of a substantially larger 5ver with a GVWR of nearly 18,000#. Add 9,600# for the truck, and the 44' length, and the 450 is all of a sudden a pretty small truck. A recent trip to the Smokeys merely reinforced that feeling. At any rate, we've decided to upgrade the truck if possible. I've read until one eye won't open. Now we need to see some tractors up close. Do some serious ciphering. Figure out how & where to sell the 450. Meet a few folks. Listen to a few tall tales & tell a few lies. See ya'll in Kansas
