  1. Wanting to check out the RGV area of TX and looking at campgrounds in the RGV near McAllen. There are sure a lot of them. Any recommendations? I have a 43 foot Class A DP all electric pulling a Jeep Wrangler and a Harley. Thanks in advance.

  2. If you volunteer at a National Park or State Park no contract is necessary but if you volunteer or work camp at a private park I recommend a written contract. I have volunteered at dozens of public parks (NP, COE, BLM, State Parks etc) with no problems but only 3 private camp grounds. I walked away from 2 of them and left the 3rd one after only a month. I will only volunteer at public parks now.

  3. CA has 2 Escapes camp grounds, AZ has 4 and NM has 2. Saguaro in AZ, where I am, is only allowing monthly stays, no overnights or weekly due to Covid and does not take reservations. The Co-Op in NM I believe is only allowing existing lease holders to come in. It used to be that reservations were not essential but in today’s world it is more necessary. If you are staying somewhere monthly it may be good to make a reservation 2 weeks ahead of time for your next stop.

  4. I’ve been full time now for 7 years and have just begun to investigate buying or leasing a lot for my winter stays. You picked one of the more expensive places to buy. HOA of $475 a month is very high. There are many other places you can look at that are just as nice. Take a look at Desert Shadows in Cathedral City on Ramon Dr. Or look outside of CA. I’m looking at Lake Havasu RV Resort. Deeded Lots are around $125,000. Not sure of the HOA, I believe it’s about $150 a month. Also look at the Escapees Co-Ops.  Most are about $25,000 to purchase a life time lease and maintenance fees of about $100 a month. There is one near Palm Springs, Johoba, close to Temecula. I’m lookin at Saguaro in Benson AZ. Wachula FL is a nice Co-Op too.

  5. FCIS and Miller are not insurance companies they are insurance brokers. Several years ago I had Nationwide thru Miller. Nationwide doubled their premium and I switched to Geico. Miller was not able to find any insurance company that could beat Geico’s premium. I was sorry to leave Miller because they provide excellent customer service but $$$ are $$$.

  6. I too was a CA resident on Kaiser before I went full time. I switched my Domicle to So Dakota. If you are on Medicare there are two options for a Medicare Supplement policy in So Dakota. One is United Health thru AARP. The other is Mutual of Omaha. Both are nationwide coverage as all Medicare Supplements are. Do not get get a Medicare Advantage plan as they are HMOs. In addition to Medicare and Medicare Supplement plans you will need a part D plan for Rx. I chose Silver Script thru CVS. I used Gerald Heinrich of Heinrich & Asso. an Escapees commercial member as my broker for all my health insurance policies. I suggest you give him a call (866) 558-3577. He is in TX but I believe they can help you in several States like TX, FL and SD. I also believe that they can assist you with non Medicare plans but not ACA plans which are only sold online.

Like jcussen said (hi Jim) buy a nozzle and filter, you should have these for spares, and look around the campground for another coach that might have an aquahot and ask who they use.  If they service theirs themselves you could offer to pay them to do yours.

Sorry, it’s been awhile and I haven’t gotten back. I did ask around and got a referral from a friend in my park. Got the service done, $250 ($200 parts and $50 labor) and all is well. The service tech is not local but comes here for a week every year on his way to Quartzite.

  8. As a former resident of San Diego I chose the Escapees So Dakota address (same letters SD, LOL LOL LOL). I liked SoDakota better because the sales tax was less, only 4%, no vehicle inspection required,no special drivers license, and lower cost insurance. You need to be in the State one night to get your drivers license but all vehicle registrations can be done by mail and your license is good for 5 years. I purchased my RV in AZ and did everything by mail, I already had the So Dakota license. You could fly to Rapid City, spend a night in a motel, and go to DMV in the morning and get everything set up.
