Cordless drill = new hole.  Locks just keep the honest people out.

Yeah but for those of us with full fairings on a Volvo, the crook has to shimmy his fat ass under there....with something big enough to hold that much diesel. Both are hard to do. No sense draining it out of a punched hole if you cant contain it.

  2. Glad to help. I have locking caps on my truck. The thieves we see around here are using small 12v pumps and the filler neck. They are skipping the trucks with the anti siphon necks and locking caps. These caps wont keep out the determined thieves but it will deter the guys looking for an easy score.  Nothing is theft "proof" but these are theft "resistant", I guess, and like you said they are a little "piece of mind".

  3. And they will want to replace it with a refurb. I wasn't happy about that at all. I moaned and whined so they refunded half the price of my new one and I took the refurb. Which didn't fix the issue anyway. They will not tell you what that "fair usage" amount is but it appears that if you exceed it Verizon is the one flipping the switch on and off. It is not a hardware issue.

Well it is my auto renew day and my 8800 is dropping me about every 2 hours.  Its' screen says it is connected to the internet, but my computer and phone says connected with no internet.  Have had the 8800 for 2 months now.  This is the first time it has done this.  Will a factory reset fix this?  If so do I have to reinstate the account?  THIA for any advise.

Let me know how this goes. I know what hell I went through to get mine fixed when it did the same thing. Are you a heavy downloader? They tried to tell me I had exceeded the "fair usage amount", which wasn't possible. They eventually got mine fixed but it took me almost 2 weeks, a replacement jetpack and finally 1 kid with some above average intelligence.

Interesting.  My "issues" continued throughout the renewal day despite the fact that my online account stated that payment had been received for the next month, etc.  What was odd was that when these outages occurred the Jetpack's display screen was totally normal and showed that I had an LTE connection.  But none of the devices on my internal network could access the internet until I rebooted the Jetpack.  Of course it could have been a local Verizon issue, but my phones didn't seem to be having any problems.  I'll see if it reoccurs next month.

Ok Joel...you jinxed me. I woke up the computer and it said I had no internet. Looked at the jetpack and all seemed ok. I rebooted the jetpack and all is well. Wanna guess what today is??

People with long trailers are typically hauling something expensive to shows, events, races, etc.  It's about money.  If the race people can't bring their equipment without hassle, that race/ car show/ event may not last long.  Even the small rigs will get the picture that RV's are targets in that state.  It does not have to be true.  Rumors and myths are much more powerful than the truth.

There is a rig here that is about the same length as mine.  He is carrying a car worth more than his very expensive coach.  We discussed the licenses and he had never heard of them.  He has been hauling these types of things around Texas for the last 10 years.

I do not know where you get the impression that people with long trailers are hauling " something expensive to shows, events, races, etc". but that is not really correct, plus if they are hauling something expensive to a race then they may need a DOT number, a CDL and several other things. You claimed to have done over 2 years of research looking for an RV being ticketed for over length, yet you never asked in the HDT forum. There are a few there that have been ticketed for over length and a whole lot of over length RV's there that haul nothing other than their home, certainly not anything "expensive to shows, events, races, etc".  I stop racers disguised as RV'ers all day long. I haven't seen them or real RV'ers avoiding my area so it appears that both your opinion about what long RV's haul and them avoiding certain areas may not be as accurate as you want to believe. I do know some over length RV'ers that avoid my area but as Kirk pointed out, there are tons of RV's that are not concerned since they aren't over length. Your analogy is like saying speed enforcement will make people avoid an area. I think it simply makes them drive the speed limit in that area....or the speeders are just willing to take their chances since the odds of being stopped are very very slim.
As far as RV's being stopped and ticketed for the wrong class of license there has to be a reason for an officer to stop them. It has nothing to do with the cost of the drivers car or his "very expensive coach". As long as they aren't driving like some sort of fool and/or aren't visibly violating the law or crashing their RV, they will not get stopped and therefore will never be cited for the DL issue. Being over length, on the other hand, is a visible violation but if you ask the average police officer he is too busy running from call to call to take notice of the length of a vehicle. Now your specialized DOT units and the Highway Patrol are totally different, but their numbers are much smaller than regular patrolmen.

Over almost 2 years of investigation I have yet to find a story of someone in an RV being pulled over and ticketed for length in Texas.

Go wander over to the HDT forum. I personally know of 4 that have been stopped and ticketed. One of them was ticketed by one of my co-workers....for 68 feet.

  8. Joel, I am confused. Mostly by the large difference in results on the first test you listed and why the big difference in the speed test sites....also is there any way to determine which of your theories may be more or less correct? Is there anything else that could cause that big of a difference? 3 sites are relatively close to the same and Fast.com is way lower?

Arizona doesn't require any sort of special license for any RVs, so Arizona RV drivers will have a regular old Class C license.  That doesn't appear to be "similar" to a Class A or Class B license in Texas,

Using the definition found in Websters:
    Definition of similar
1having characteristics in common strictly comparable

The way that it was always taught to me is "does their license allow them to drive the class of vehicle they are operating?" That is "similar", ie "comparable".

We just picked up the Ellipsis for head to head comparisons - but on paper, the specs are like comparing a basic low car to a high end luxury vehicle.   Will a basic car get you there? Sure.  Is a luxury vehicle worth the extra expense for you? Only you can answer that.

For anyone who relies on mobile internet, I'd say it's absolutely worth it.

I'll be interested in this comparison. You mentioned the internal antenna on the 8800L so I wonder if it will make a difference. If so, I'll buy one.

  11. I had a regulator similar to the one docj listed....until it broke on a recent trip. I used the old cheapo inline regulators I had laying around. After I got home I thought I had poor pressure but it didn't bother me enough to get off my butt and do anything about it..until I read this thread.

I went to the RVWaterFilterStore and bought the the one DonCoyote listed in his post. I also bought two of the inline gauges they sell.

I put the gauges on the cheap regulator, just to see what they would read. I have 70psi in and about 45 out. Then I installed the new regulator. I still have 70psi in and now 50psi out....and I have a ton more flow at the faucet than I had with the cheap one. Is this gauge over priced like some say? Maybe but it has the best "flow" I have ever seen in a straight, inline, regulator. I never noticed a lack of flow with the adjustable one but I never really liked it anyway. I always wondered "what if some ne'er do well walks by and cranks up the pressure"?  Now I just have to worry about some ne'er do well stealing my pretty inline gauges :D

  12. Cherie or Chris, when I signed up they gave me a free hotspot...an Ellipsis basic, no frills, jetpack. Would it be worth the money to buy an 8800L? I retire soon and will start traveling fulltime.  While traveling  I can't guarantee the great reception I'm getting now on the freebie jetpack. I really don't want to do the external antenna (7730) thing if I can avoid it but I will if that's the best way to pull in a better signal.

  13. The theft of a travel trailer rarely makes the news, because the theft isn't really newsworthy, just like the theft of a car or truck (about a million stolen annually). But on occasion the theft of a truck and a trailer will make the news for one reason or another. While most of these are utility trailers there are some travel trailers in the mix.

    ONE                                      FIVE                                       NINE
    TWO                                     SIX                                          TEN
    THREE                                 SEVEN
    FOUR                                   EIGHT

It is easier to steal the whole thing (truck and trailer) than the trailer alone, unless you are speaking of stealing a trailer that is in storage. Theft from hotel parking lots is quite common...it's a buffet for a thief.
