From the Philadelphia area you can get to I-81 either by going West to Carlisle on the PA Turnpike or take I-95 to I-695 West to I-70 to US-340 to I-81 at Winchester, VA. There are tolls on both routes. I believe the I-95 toll in Maryland is only collected in the Northbound direction. I-81 ends at I-40 in Tennessee which is why I mentioned I-75 and I-59 for getting further South.

Tolls on 95 south, one in Delaware, then the Scott Key Bridge on the east side of 695, you can go the west side with no tolls, but the traffic is crazy (just came that way Monday) and a bit longer

  2. Another vote for Rise n Roll, Southside Soda shop is great but only street parking there. I would recommend The Blue Gate for a very good dinner and plenty of parking across the street.

  3. We just came across I-70 East -West this past weekend and we can vouch it was COLD the whole way from Colorado, now down around Trinidad off of I-25 we did hit highs in the upper 60's but not for long. I agree head as far south as possible. We came from Taos New Mexico to Delaware, also winds were heavy thru Kansas

That looks like the Love's at Abilene, KS.  It must be new if part of Love's as the Love's RV Stop listing doesn't show it, at least not yet.

Of the 6 listings on the Love's site, none make any mention of KOA.

It looks brand new, not sure of the town name, it was foggy on our return trip and snuck up on me, I was lucky to just get the exit number. Looked fine for a overnight stop but sure it will be noisy as it is close to the road and eastbound exit.

We just drove west from Delaware and in either Mo. or Co we saw a truck stop on the eastbound side of I-70 with brand new pull thru sites behind it, not sure what truck stop, will have to check on our return trip in January. Looked good but close to the highway.

Coming home today I saw this Loves with a small campground behind it, it was at exit 275 on the eastbound side. It looked fenced in but was directly behind the Loves.

  6. Merry Christmas to all, we are visiting our son in Taos New Mexico (without the rv) and getting ready to take advantage of the incoming snowstorm, headed skiing today. Hope everyone has a great holiday season and safe travels.

You might keep shopping around. I had mine done base coat - clear coat, for about $12,000. That included fairly extensive fibreglass repair on the hood and rather substantial disassembly of boxes, genset, fairings, etc.-plus a lot of work cleaning up the frame and painting it a contrasting color. It's not show quality, but the prep work was pretty carefully done and we're really happy with the outcome. 1999 VNL 610, for reference. Jay

Thanks, we do plan to shop around, the place we got the quote from was a friend of a friend deal so you know how that can be. They also do a lot of hot rods so some of those folks don't care

I supposedly have a "reservation site" for 2022 but have not paid.  I was told this would be taken care of after Jan 1.  Is something else going on?  What is this about a waiting list and unavailable sites?

Randy, are you planning on also attending the Cedar Creek Club rally in Pigeon Forge 2 weeks later, I know we are and I believe Charlie is as well..

I’ll be touching base with her soon and back with more info.

Thanks Carl, we know you have no control over it plus with the new owners I am sure new challenges are there as well. They did let me know we would not hear anything until probably early next year. Thanks again

  11. Hope the campground figures out (If) how many sites are open, we hope to attend and friends do also which we are both on the wait list. Just trying to plan our spring travels seeing places are so packed just trying to secure locations. I have not been in a few years and this will be the first time for the wife.

I saw a pallet sitting in front of my shop when I got home this evening.  It looks like Santa came early this year for me.  I must have been a good boy. 😎  I will take some pictures in the day light, but the batteries are here.

The Victron components will be here on Tuesday.  They are waiting for me at the distributor, but I won’t get down to get them until then.  It looks like I have some work ahead of me on my rig (and some other rigs) over the next few weeks.  I am failing retirement. 😉

Wish you were on the east coast, really would like to have solar eventually for when we head west to camp more seeing the wife has finally retired.
