  1. I got about 25,000 miles on tires They are original 2011 tires on a Ford F350 with truck camper. The center tread has lots more wear than the 2 neighboring treads. (top arrow) Also the outer edge has more wear than the inner tire. (side arrow)

How long should front tires last?

Do you think I can get another 5,000 miles on them?

Any suggestions to more even wear? I'm using 65 pounds all round for tire psi.

  2. I charge my battery periodically in winter and non use periods but it is left in the camper. I drain the water tanks and unhook the shower hose and the water pump hoses. I run the water pump a little to drain out what can be drained. I put antifreeze down the drains and in the cassette toilet water tank. That is about it.

Been doing it like that for 15 years and no problems even in sub zero weather. I don't put anti freeze in the water tank or water pump. They got an attachment for blowing out water lines with compressed air. I never use city water, only onboard water tank.

  3. My gate valve is frozen shut from the cold temps. I had put some valve grease in it last year hoping it would keep it operating in winter. Any tips on how to keep them operating in the winter. I just use my camper a few times in winter so it stays unheated for the most part until use. I have a cap on the valve that has a little hose connector. Maybe I should keep that off until I use the valve.

    Thanks

A video on pod 'communal' life in CA.

Pod living may be the future for the slightly more well to do as our population skyrockets and land is at a premium. I had heard on the radio some communities are outlawing single family housing and only zoning for multi family buildings. Pods in CA are renting for the prices of apartments in other cities.

In the big cities, tents and communal showers may be what the average Joe or Jane lives in someday.

...just never know how things will turn out...huh?

I don't understand the problem. This RV Park is just minutes away from downtown NYC. Hotel rooms run what, $200 for a really cheap room to maybe $500 for a good, but not top of the line hotel?? They you have to pay another $75-$100 a day, per person, for meals.

There are less expensive RV Parks, probably in the $50-$60 a day range, with a commute of 1.5 to 2 hours each way to the heart of NYC.

On the other hand if your reason for staying at Liberty Harbor is NOT to visit NYC the I know of no reason to want to stay there.

I know of another RV Park along the line of Liberty Harbor. It is in New Orleans, about 5 blocks from the French Quarter. Their campsites are in the $175 to $200 or more if you want to stay there during Marti Gras. However if you want to stay during Marti Gras, you need to make reservations a year or two in advance.

Problem is not being rich and being able to afford $110 a day NOW to park. Even their dirt parking lot for boondocking is $75 a day...just to park. Pretty soon it will be $150 a day to park with hook ups and $100 a day for the dirt lot.

...you don't think that is disgusting??

You must read a different forum than I do...    It is true that many here have reacted to your frequent criticism of the lifestyle, but never have I seen the part-time lifestyle criticized. As one who was a part-time RVer for 25+ years, followed by 11+ years of fulltime, then back to part-time again 8 years ago, I have no idea what you want or are asking, other than to try once more to stir up the forums. I suspect the membership here is probably close to half and half, but since the forums are free to everyone and we don't verify who lives in what way, that is only a guess on my part and others may well disagree on the mix and they are just as likely to guess right as I am. Add to that the fact that there is no clear definition for what constitutes fulltime, I really don't get your point.

I met lots of RV'ers at a show I went to in Pitts. First RV show I've been at. Everyone friendly. Same with RV'ers on the road. But I boondock and seldom go to campsites. RV'ers seem pretty nice from my limited experience over the last 2 decades. But I don't hang with them, busy working. Just short chats.

Was working in NYC and had to camp in Jersey City. They had a mini Airstream convection. Talked with tons of Airstreamers. Everyone friendly. Some seem to look down on regular campers, but in a joking way, not mean or prejudicial.

BTW, I'd say a full timers is someone that lives in their RV year round that has no house or apartment. But it does not matter how tight the definition is.

  7. Here is the water rundown with some filter tests as well. Test results are shown in photos.

While boondocking at Liberty RV in Jersey I saw a lot of rigs using filters at the faucet hose outside. I wonder how good they are.  I don't have any interest in them. I bring bottled water to drink and use tap water for non drinking.
