  1. Randy,

We mainly use Blue Beacon also but I also have used a “Little Giant” A frame ladder and extending brush that hose attached to. I stood on my drom to get the back. Agree not safe.

I hope GeorgiaHybrid sees this and responds. We were discussing this very issue over the phone two nights ago concerning my roof repair. He has an idea on building some scaffolding to accomplish the task. Hope he’ll share his idea as he definitely has the knowledge, skill, and available resources.

There's a fuel pressure sensor on the back of the IFSM plate on an ISX that's a real bugger too.  I left a trail of blood on the shop floor changing that one.  But it wasn't much over $100...........

DW says I haven’t really been working unless blood is let.

The sensor is located on the drivers side of the block, near the top and in the middle. It's right behind the two big horizontal plugs and is the top most of two identical looking sensors. That probably reads like gibberish but once you open the hood, you'll see what I mean. If it weren't for all the wires in the way, it'd be about a 10 minute fix. As it sits, it looks like it'll take a universal joint, a couple extensions, and holding my mouth just right to get it out of there.

Yeah don’t get me and GeorgiaHybrid going about ease of replacing a sensor 🤣

May also want to seal these same seams under the fairings at the back of the cab.  I resealed the seams and a year later a new leak began, I traced it to the driver side fairing below the joint where it meets the upper fairing.  Only leaked during very heavy Florida tropical downpours.

    Thanks. Will do.

  5. I finally found a glass shop willing to track down a persistent water leak that would drip down the drivers side curtain channel after a heavy rain. I had tried hosing and other means to find it and couldn’t. Truck is Volvo 780 with skylight which I and other forum member thought might be the source. Turns out the source was the two channels on the roof that I thought (and was told)  were just dimples in a one piece roof.  Apparently those may be rolled seams of three separate  panels.  Also apparently these seams require periodic resealing with polyurethane. I hadn’t done that and I had cracks and even couple of holes that were repaired. Learning something new every day.  Might check yours if older Volvo.

We'll be in Driggs/Victor Idaho area at a beautiful state campground 1-15 Sep.   It's on the West/Idaho side of the Grand Tetons and beautiful!  Let us know if you roll through Driggs/Victor...we always have plenty to eat/drink.

    Thanks Brad.

I thought all HDTs were required to put their single plate on the front. In fact I thought no HDT only get one plate eve in CA.

Tennessee very specific on the rear for Motorhome.

  8. Can’t seem to find a definitive answer so thought would ask the group. My state of Tennessee issues only one license plate that by statute must be on the rear of a Motorhome (my truck registered as MH) .  I assume it has to be readily visible at all times if LEO crawled between 5er and truck. My dilemma:  I would like to build an expanded metal “basket” that I could put in my receiver hitch to toss my chocks and leg blocks in for easy access. It would be lockable. My question since the expanded metal is see through is that sufficient or do I have to remount on the box with a light?

LGT was coined by Kevin, aka "Flapper', now departed.  He was towing with a srw ford at the time, and made up the term for his truck.  If you were there when the term was first used, it's pretty funny.

BTW, Kevin eventually upgraded to a hdt.

Everyone should have met Flapper.  He made this world a better place. RIP brother.  Now back to regular programming.

  10. Thanks to the help of GeorgiaHybrid I repaired.  First I used a plastic razor blade and cleaned off all the flaking around the edges. Then used 1000 grit sand paper to scuff up the area and surround. (Use can use the Scotch pads as mentioned above). Use caution and not rub too hard because the base coat comes off very easily.  After cleaning with mild soap and water and drying, masked off the area and sprayed with two part clear coat I purchased on Amazon.  I sprayed 4 coats at 10-15 minute intervals.  Allowed it to dry and cure for 48 hours and then used wet sanding with1500, light compound, followed by polishing and then waxing using a variable speed Porter Cable buffer.  The trick that Georgia showed me was using some pressure on the buffer to heat up the clear coat and get it to blend.  Go multiple directions.  It’s an art because too much heat or pressure can damage.  All said and done not a perfect restoration but very passable and should last awhile. I will try to post some pics of before and after.

Note.  Even though you mask off area to be sprayed (we used blue shop towels) you may want to go cover more than you think you need.  Even with a light breeze, I got some overspray on other areas I’m going to have to buff off.  The two part clearwith the hardener really sticks.

  11. DW and I leaving mid August for North Texas (mandatory MIL visit). then up to South Dakota and Yellowstone/ Grand Tetons until mid September.  We want to hang around Kansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska or Eastern Colorado until we go to the National Rally in October.  So any suggestions on campgrounds, places of interest for that intervening month?  BTW have been to Dodge City.

    Hahaha!

I got it Daryl cause I have teenage grandkids. Rick just was exposed to too many chemicals during his farming lifetime, so have to keep it simple. (You know I luv ya Rick 😀).

  13. My pet peeve are the idiots that won’t merge when it goes to one lane for road work or otherwise.  These folks are the same that probably cut in line at the buffet.  I’ve actually had some that passed not on the shoulder but actually in the grass off the shoulder to cut the merge line.

So after watching the video it sounds like the EPA hasn't moved up there deadline but the manufacturers just aren't going to build 2020 gliders? So not a loss in court but out maneuvered by the truck makers?

    Phil,

One article I read said Fitzgerald had been involved in the court and lost the repeal of the regs,  but you are more correct saying it’s more to do with the manufacturers business decision.

  15. Phil,

Don’t know how to download video here but title is “Glider Kits Are Dead-July 1 2019” by Smart Trucking on YouTube.  When I looked on line to see if true several places mentioned that each manufacturer could make 300 kits but they were really not that interested since it was a limited market.

p.s. Tell me how to include videos 😊

Whats a glider for HDT?  Sliding hitch?

Lots of companies and owner/operators bought to put a remanufactured pre-emissions engine in for reliability and less service cost.  Fitzgeralds was a leader in manufacturing these trucks.  Many of us toured their facility and it was a first class operation.  No future it seems now after they deplete their current inventory.  They would take old Detroit, Cummins, and some Cats and remanufacture to better than new engines.
