Thx for the replies. I did a little Google Maps study of Vegas RV parks using satellite photos, and didn’t find a single park with any real shade. 🙄

Thanks again for all the input. It turns out I just had my first experience with this while securing temporary storage for the RV. A storage facility that we have used previously now says they won’t allow RVs over 10 years old. Well, thanks to the advice here, I offered to email them a photo of the rig. They said “sure” and then promptly agreed to take my business once they saw the photo. 🥰

@franco-bolli You are correct, but I’m not surprised. My point in starting the post was to simply find out if I we would have to deal with the same homeless crisis camping as a fulltimer that we currently deal with living in a major city.

I’m looking for a park in Las Vegas that has *actual* shade — big mature trees that will help keep me cool and provide a little atmosphere. Palm trees don’t count. Is there such a thing, or am I asking too much?

We’re in the process of purchasing a 2004 Class C for fulltiming. It’s in mint condition. Will the age of the motorhome exclude us from some RV parks? What’s the typical cutoff if there is an age limit?

My wife & I were fulltimers for a while pre-pandemic. We went off the road for a while and are now yearning to get out there again. But I’m wondering: How common is it to encounter travelers who are obviously on the road out of desperation—in campgrounds or boondocking because that’s all they can afford to do?

I realize this can be subjective, but not always. I have compassion for the homeless and understand that many of us living this lifestyle may be only one disaster away from that plight. I just want to know what we might be likely to encounter while searching for a campsite or boondocking spot, especially on public land.

I didn't have time to read through the entire thread, but there is one option that might work for some people depending on your opinion of the relationship between vehicle registration and domicile.

 

One could stay a resident of TX and register your vehicles in SD. SD openly allows non-resident vehicle registration (see here: http://dor.sd.gov/Motor_Vehicles/Non_Resident_Information/), and TX should not have jurisdiction over vehicles which are not within TX borders for the majority of the year. This is a common scenario for people with 2 homes in different states. If you are resident of State #1, but have a 2nd home in State #2 along with a vehicle that stays in State #2, then state #1 has no authority to impose registration requirements over the vehicle.

JIm/Travis - Thanks for this followup. I'll leave it to others more experienced than me to email you with suggestions, but I'm relieved to hear Escapees has been directly asked for input by the chairman of the committee rewriting the law. That gives me hope.

Thank you for the update on the new law. I would like to request that you start a new "stickie" thread in the appropriate forum to keep us all updated on this law and your advocacy efforts to get it changed/modified on our behalf. Or perhaps better yet, include an infobox on the Escapees home page where it can be more easily seen, not just by us but by anyone in government who might be visiting the site to learn about Escapees and our concerns.

From what I've read so far about this new law, it will significantly affect the lifestyles, and perhaps livelihoods, of many fulltime RVers. It may cause me to seek another state as domicile. I think it's time to step up the information campaign significantly.
