  1. Well, you could always have David forward the package on to Adrienne if it doesn't show up. We had our mail sent general delivery here. The post office received it at 9:30 in the morning and sent it back to sender about an hour later. Not happy with that.

Roger and Lynn showed up yesterday. There is supposed to be some type of big state shindig at the Elks this weekend. We expected the RV park to be full by now but not so yet. There's only one other RV here besides our three and that one's heading out today. Maybe today will be busy.

hmmm re-directing a pin box would not be a simple task, oh ye who travels in a motorhome. Must be pretty big, and pretty heavy, at about 100 lbs. or so :)

Everyone seems to be meeting up, and its surprising how quickly people are converging on Arizona. Looking forward to actually seeing everyone!!

  2. I'm about 8 miles north of Alma NM in a place called Cosmic Campground. It's a long way from any light source and sits in a shallow basin about a mile from hiway US 180. The forest service set it up for astronomy hobbyists. The sites aren't much but they have poured concrete pads to set telescope up on. I just found out about it this morning while eating breakfast and doing a little surfing. I don't have my scope with me but I just had to come up here to see how dark the skys are. According to the darkness map they are as dark as they can get. There are 4 or 5 other rigs here with scopes set up for tonight. I've met most of them and have been invited to join in with them this evening. A lady just came up to the door and invited me to a potluck they are having but I just got done with dinner. I'll go over there as soon as i post this.

Wow Lee, that sounds awesome, we'll have to get there sometime!

I am still hanging out in Boston while Paul supervises the house construction :)

  3. Steve, Saw the pics on FB, looks like it was a great surprise! Nice job!!

Lee, yeah we are only Allowed to have the truck camper on our site for 48 hrs at a time while we load it up. but now that summer is over and the place is getting busier they told us they were cutting us slack and its really 48 hrs once per season, so we can only have the truck camper on our site for a few hours now, just to unload it, then it needs to be moved off. ugh.

oh well, 30 more days and we will be out of this "resort".

  4. I've never understood this justification for a trailer. If you have a class A towing a car you still have your home and transportation in two different packages.

    Linda

I know that Paul, for one, subscibes to the "I want my home and my transportation to be separate" . What he means is, after he drives 200-300 miles in a day, he doesn't want to just swivel his seat and be in his living room. He likes the fact that when we are moving from spot to spot, we are in the truck, and when we set up the house, we move into the trailer.

Its not about the separate vehicle for driving around town. Many people don't care about the separation, but some do.

  5. Four years ago today we sold the house. Our 2 year adventure has stretched to 4 and not sure when it'll end. Maybe 2 or 3 more before we buy a home base. Still looking for our utopia. Celebrated with unlimited salad, soup and bread sticks at Olive Garden for lunch after we had moved from Charleston, SC to Savannah, Ga. We'll be here a week maybe more.

    Travel safe everyone.

    Jeff :)

yeah, congrats on the anniversary and let us know where Utopia is- we'll come and visit you :)
  6. Julie you really got me confused now. Are you at the COE park at Abiquiu reservoir? That's about 30 miles east of the Town of Gallina. I didn't think Mike would ever let it be known that he was staying in a town named Chicken.

I Think thats exactly where they are. Mike just sent us a gorgeous picture that he said was taken at the Abiquiu reservoir.

Real men can stay in a town called Chicken :)

  7. Well, we almost needed the "shotgun" tonight. Carol was unfolding a small table we keep stored next to the shower to use for a project she had going in the living room. All of a sudden she let out this blood curdling scream, dropped the table and ran to the front of the bus. Hmmmm that was my cue to jump up, get the shotgun, and come to her rescue from what ever critter had her cornered. Turns out it was a shrimp (albeit a big one) with the head on and somehow stuck to the inside of the table. We had just had a shrimp dinner a few nights ago and had bought some live local ones, nice and big and pretty tasty. I don't know how this one got away from the herd and wound up in the table, but it sure looked scary for a few seconds. :o Luckily for the shrimp it was already dead, because if it wasn't the scream would have done it in. It almost got me, but with a little Jamison and ice I'll probably recover. Steve

    ROFLMAO, literally haha

  8. Nobody could ever forget Dave Sands after the Sands got a 40 footer stuck in the sands up to it's hub caps. It's the stories like these that were a nightmare when it happened but are precious memories now. That's why it is so important for everyone to keep posting. The joking with each other the stories of our mishaps and experiences, the help and support that flows like water when one of us is experiencing difficult times. The happy times we experience. Is it any wonder our page on the forum is one of the most read pages on the whole network. We're Family.

Well said, Lee. We remember well the day the Sands got stuck in the sand. It was the first time we had met anyone and Paul was really happy to be able to help, and I was happy to chat while the guys all helped :)

It does boil down to the fact that we have a group of friends we can count on, and have a great time with, whenever our paths can cross.

  9. We're having 80s inside today. Our A/C broke a couple of days ago. On a holiday weekend, of course. At least it is supposed to cool down into the 60s tonight--I'm looking forward to sleeping without sweating.

    Linda

    Just pretend you are camping!

We are sooooooooooooo happy when we head up to Flagstaff with the truck camper and can sleep out in the forest with no A/C droning in our ears :)

Arrived back in Hades Hot Havasu with our new oven for the house. we saved over a grand by picking it up with the uhaul in Phoenix.

  10. Who knew that Apache Sitgreave would be a hotbed of activity on Labor Day weekend? After spending one night boondocking, we left the crowds and came back to Apache Junction, where its quiet!!

Tomorrow we rent a Uhaul trailer and tote our new oven up to Havasu. First coat of stucco goes on the house Tuesday :)

  11. Hey Sandie, Why'd you leave so early? We landed in Apache Junction for the night tonight. We found the oven we want at the Sears Outlet in Gilbert for $1300 less than anywhere else. The scratch is on the back :)

monday we rent a small Uhaul to get it back to Havasu.

Meanwhile we'll check out Payson and Apache Sitgreaves NF.

  12. Crossing my fingers that the issues soon subside, Lee. Hope its all set soon, and you get bored with it because it runs too well! :)

We are taking off from Hades Hot Havasu in the morning and heading to the Grand Canyon for a few days. May not be too much cooler, but it will be prettier, and we got full hook up !

    Sue

  13. We sure do enjoy having the truck camper so we can escape the 117* temperatures in Havasu once in a while. We stayed away as long as we could and arrived back "home" when it was getting dark, but it was still 116*. Thank goodness for A/C. Headed to Cali on Tues to act as moving van for our daughter. That means we have to take the camper off the truck. booo.

  14. I'm still at city of Rocks. Wouldn't you know when I was hoping my outing would be interrupted saying my glasses or something else I'm waiting for had arrived my phone hasn't made a peep. I forgot a few things I wanted to bring with me because of the hasty departure so I'll go back to the Ranch tomorrow do a few chores, cook up another batch of Hamburg and onions and hope they call about my new glasses. Then maybe come back up here. I expected the park to be full, coming on the weekend. There were a few people Friday night but the place emptied out Saturday morning and I've had it to myself all week end. I took a walk up into the rocks this morning but have decided that isn't the best place for me to be walking. My balance isn't that good. I didn't fall but came close several times. I'll stick to the roads hence to forth. It was a bit cooler today (mid 80's) spent a lot of time reading outside. Last night I sat outside looking at the stars. About half the sky was clear. I found that I had trouble finding some of the constellations. Especially if one or two of it's stars were covered with a wispy cloud. Also, found a couple constellations but couldn't think of their names. I better star gaze a little more often.

speaking of stars- we will head out to Darkland in a night or two to see what we can see of the perseid meteor shower. Should be good.

  15. Does kinda work?

haha, Paul keeps saying we'll still be full time RVers (??? in what universe are you fulltimers if you own a house???)

I keep gently (ok, yelling in his face) reminding him that in fact we will NOT be fulltiming anymore, but thats ok, because its a choice we made.

God love him, In his heart he is a fulltimer....he just wants a place to keep all his tools so he can use them.

Steve, hope all your mods go well and you are foot loose and fancy free soon.

we took off for the weekend- only 90 minutes from Havasu but we had SWEATSHIRTS on today! woohoo!!

Plus, we had a deer, 5 Tourists, a rattlesnake and a fox saunter through our campsite. Dozer was not pleased. He chased the rattlesnake and the fox.

  16. With half the group going to Fla this coming winter it doesn't look like we'll have a Quartzsite gathering this coming winter. However the last time a sizeable bunch went east they got fed up with the weather and all came back in time for Q.

Hey, some of us will be in Arizona and Quartzsite!

Congrats to Ed And Lynn, and to Toni and Doug. We WILL be around the campfire in AZ this winter to hear the story.

We escaped to Flagstaff for the weekend. went from 59* to 108* in 3 hours today. oh well, it was nice to get away for a few days.

  17. Lee - like you, we are soooo tired of doctor appointments. But Jim's surgery went well this morning and part of his problems got taken care of. But - he has a blockage in his right leg that couldn't be fixed with a stent and will require another surgery after he heals from this one. And on it goes. Our dilemma is the fact that we have to renew our SD driver's licenses this year. So we'll have to decide if Jim feels up to making the trip north after he heals from this surgery and then come back for the next surgery or what our alternatives might be. Life is definitely not dull.

Sure glad we bought that second air conditioner. It has really paid for itself in keeping us cool. But I think I'm getting used to the heat. It was 75 the other morning when we got up and I thought it felt almost chilly.

Sandie, Hoping all goes well with the surgeries.

I know what you mean about the chilliness. It got down to 95* here the other day, and I put a jacket on! It sure did feel good to sit outside for a change though!

I *think* you can get an extension on the SD drivers license.

"If you’re a South Dakota resident temporarily out of state, you can extend your regular SD driver’s license if you can’t renew it online or by mail.

Contact the South Dakota DPS to see if you’re eligible for a temporary driver’s license extension."

    worth a shot.

  18. Hey Class-less Class members

Greetin's from sunny Nova Scotia Canada, where it is warm but NOT quite as hot as some of you are partaking in.

Note that a number of members are talking about heading to the Gulf area, this coming winter season and wonder if any have recommendations for CG's to stay and/or favourite things to do.

We are looking at leaving late Oct or after Christmas and aiming for somewhere S of Pensacola but not too deep into FL or maybe GA, AL, MS or SE TX.

    Thanks in advance

    Travel Safe

    S+N

    Neil,

we loved the Destin area but I think it would be too cold. Many people like the Naples area too. There are several Classless members headed that way so maybe they have some more specific thoughts. We'll be in AZ again, so we'll miss you. BUT I am REALLY antsy to get back up to Nova Scotia :)

  19. Lee, you are way too busy! Its called R E T I R E M E N T!

things are pretty slow here in Havasu- for Me. Paul keeps himself pretty busy, but I was eyeing some Help Wanted signs. Maybe I'll look for some volunteer work that doesn't require me to be outside in 110* heat.

  20. Paul and I made the move to transition lenses but they don't help much if you are driving. you'll still need sunglasses for that because the car windshield blocks whatever signal tells the glasses to darken.

Still, there are many times they are helpful, and yes there will be times when you walk into a building from bright sunlight and will have to wait for them to lighten.

Anyone who is in the far northern regions should look for the northern lights tonight again and maybe tomorrow too!!!
