Haven't been around much in the past two seasons, just now kind of getting a handle on all the changes in our lives. Doc's still have not conclusively decided what's causing the Parkinson's like symptoms and probably won't. Live wid it.

Just wanted to thank everyone for the kindness shown to Paula and I and maybe we'll swing by the 2022 edition  of the rally and wave at everybody. The Toy Draggin is sold and living in Minnesota, and the XLR is sold and will live in eastern Kentucky. Sadly, our BorBooder Collie, Daisy, passed unexpectedly last year, but the good news is we now have BooBoo, a rescue mix with Pit, Beagle, Pekingese, and much, much more. He's a project.

Anyway, thanks for the kind thoughts

    Paul and Paula

    Hi Paul,

It is so good to hear from you. I hope you and Paula are doing good. It sounds like you have a project going on with the new dog. Sorry to hear about Daisy. Please keep posting. It nice to hear from you.

    Hello All,

Ah another issue. Found out the hard way (pulled over) that my rear marker lights and brake lights are not working. The turns, 4 ways and reverse lights are all working. I cleaned all the connections and checked all the fuses that had anything to do with lights. They all looked good except a few had a blackish/brown residue on the prongs. I cleaned that off.

Any ideas on what I should check next?

    Sorry for so many questions.

    Hi Rotorhead,

Don't be afraid to question question. This is how you are going to learn about your truck. This is a good group of guys always willing to help. Also let YouTube be your friend. You can be surprised what you can find. Don't ask me how I know. 🤣    Al

This old Stanley drill is older than I.  It doesn't grunt, it just wraps you up like a pretzel.  It acts like it has a 30# flywheel.  Feels like it too.  Notice the 3/4" pipe for a handle.  I made sure it went through the ladder rungs.

    Hi Rick,

Sounds like you need to be careful with that drill. You could go for a ride or worse yet, break your wrist. It will be nice to see the finished bed. Keep the pictures coming.

Looking over my circuit design, there may not be too many crimps to do.... hell this has to be easier than putting together a piece of Ikea furniture LOL!

    INCOMING CONNECTIONS

    1. GROUNDS - Relay terminals #85 for all four relays get tied together with the incoming and outgoing ground
    2. RIGHT TURN - Tie the incoming right turn wire to terminal #86 from one relay and #30 on another relay
    3. LEFT TURN - Do the same for terminals #86 and #30 for the other two relays and the incoming left turn wire
    4. BRAKES - Tie the last two #30 terminals to the incoming brake wire

RELAY TO RELAY (the above gives us a "right" and "left" relay pairs)

    1. For the "left" relay pair, connect remaining terminal #86 on one relay to #87 on other relay
    2. Do the same for the right pair

    OUTGOING CONNECTIONS

    1. LEFT TURN/BRAKES - Tie the two #87a terminals on the pair of "left" relays to the outgoing left turn/brake wire
    2. RIGHT TURN/BRAKES - Do the same for #87a on the two "right" relays with the outgoing right turn/brake wire

I think the remaining wiring gets passed through from incoming to outgoing wires (running lights, reverse) and the brake controller is connected to the brake control pin on the 7 way blade connector.

Disclaimer: I have not tested this except using a simulator online so if anyone tries this it may be good to rough out and loosely connect the wires at first before doing final crimps and heat shrink.  Refer to my circuit diagram for troubleshooting or revert to one of the methods in the FAQ if things needed.   If I get into this maybe I'll try the circuit on a breadboard to verify.

With quality, waterproof relays of the same brand as used on the Jackalopee, it should last the life of the truck. https://www.qualitymobilevideo.com/bu5084.html

    Hi CA,

Wish you the best in your challenge. I hope your project turns out the way you are hoping for. If you didn't have a DIY'er you won't have a HDT. Please post how things work out. Inquiring minds need to know. 😃  I do have a Jackalope in my truck because it made my life easier. That has been a few years ago when prices were cheaper.

Where's Big Al the coffee man ?

Big Al is still in northeast Ohio. I hope someone stepped up and helped Carl with the coffee. I did miss all of you folks. 😎

I hope next year things will be back to normal.

Is there a post rally going on ?

The 510 sensor internals are not the same as the 507 internals. For starters, the cap does not just unscrew like the 507. I destroyed 2 sensors before I gave up and bought the 507. And I do not give up on things like that easily... :)

Hi Dutch,    Thank you for the heads up. I was hoping that the sensor would unscrew like the 507.

Accessing the 510 sensor battery takes cutting your way in, pretty much destroying the sensor. Basically, the 510 sensors need to be destroyed, where the 507 sensors are easy to take apart for battery replacement. A call to TST inquiring about replacement sensors may get you an offer for a 507 system that you can't refuse. That's what happened to me several years ago...

    Hi Dutch,

I got a hold of TST over a year ago or more about what kind of deal they could work out with me about my old 510 sensors. As it turned out it was cheaper for me buy a new system. I also find out that buying a system from TST direct is not the best deal either.

I don't believe that the security cap make the sensor weather proof. I was hoping the internals of the 510 look like the 507 sensor.

I have an old TST 510 set I bought years ago, batteries all dead. I'm going to try your tick Doc, thanks.

    Hi Ray,

I be interested in knowing what you find out. The big question is, where is the best place to start a cut. Knowing me, I would pick the wrong place.  😄  I was thinking about starting a cut at the very top of the sensor. Hoping there would be room between the security case and the sensor itself. Another key would to be writing down the code of that sensor and make your own code to sensor part that is left.

I've owned both the 510 and the 507 systems.  As I recall the basic sensors for both have the same configuration.  There's an outer security case and you remove the 3 screws to take the outer case off.  It does NOT open up the sensor itself.  Lots of people remove the security shells and use the sensors without them.  Once you've removed the security cover you can unscrew the case to replace the battery.

    Hi Doc,

Thank you for the answer. This is going to be a big help.

  10. Hi Everyone,

I am curious to know if anyone has taken apart TST 510 sensor ? I have looked on line but have found nothing about the 510 sensor. I know that the 507 sensor is held together with 3 screws. I also understand that I would have to cut off the outside cover on the 510 sensor. The big question is, if the outside cover is removed on the 510 can the sensor still be used ? Is there any weather protection without the outside cover ? I would like to see a picture of what the 510 looks like inside.

    Thanks for any input,
    Al

I'd expect the boat crowd to have more issues with water in their fuel than the RV crowd. We check the tanks yearly, unless fuel issues pop up.

ETA: Are you having fuel issues? Have you checked the bottom of your tanks?

The truck is not having any fuel issues. I can look down into the fuel tanks and see the bottom of the tanks. I always try to treat the fuel in the truck. One of the reason for the questions is because most people that I know that has a semi have a webasto fuel filter.

  12. 20 minutes ago, Darryl&Rita said:

It's a paper filter. What kind of problems are you expecting?

I'm not sure. Just want to know if there is any problems with this style of filter. Just trying to be prepared. It looks like the boating industry uses this style of filter for their diesel engines.

  13. Hi Everyone,

I was curious to know if your truck has a Parker Racor R90P fuel filter water separator on it ? If so, any problems ? What should I look for when it comes to problems ? Any other thoughts to pass along ?

    Open to all input,
    Al

Thanks, I don't want to F!@# up my paint I want to make it shine. Appreciate the advice!

    Hey Cory,

There is another web site out there called ' Auto Geek '. Mike has some real nice videos also talking about auto detailing. The Porter Cable machine, the speed can be adjusted. Do a search on the Porter Cable and see what this tool can do. I don't believe the Porter Cable will do any damage to your paint. The big key is to use the correct pad when polishing.

Who knows, maybe your car would like to shine. 😎

I liked Trimster’s suggestion too.  I might try the Turtle Wax product.

Turtle Wax has a new line of products out. One of them is called ' One And Done '. Do a Google search and see what you think. I have not tried it. But it looks interesting.

I am planning on a completely new paint job on my Volvo at some point, but I was wondering does anybody have a favorite wax for their HDT? I have never waxed paint that was put on over fiberglass before, just wondering if there were any pitfalls to watch out for?????

    Hi Cory,

Let this piece of equipment be your best friend. Porter Cable 7424XP. It's a random orbit polisher. Simple to use and will save your elbows. Do a search on Chemical Guys. They have a bunch of videos on detailing cars. They also sell where own line of products for detail work.

Got truck back and it drives nicely.  Less than $4k for x/y, window, and labor.  Gotta admit, that flakey x/y sure had me thinking it was supply or ground issues.

We realize we're pretty dang lucky to be where we are in life, and view times like this as bumps in the road.  I hadn't planned to spend $$ on the truck, but I'm okay with it.  We saw several newish class a's on trailers being hauled in recently.  Heck, I've got a pickup back home with under 2k miles on it with tranny issues.  But it's under warranty....

    Hi Rick,

Good to hear that the truck is back on the road. I remember in one of the first East Coast Rallies where someone talked about putting $5,000 back each year for repairs. Do you think you are ahead of the curve ? I mean, did you spend money on the truck last year ?
