Glenn,
I have radiant floor heat in my garage and it works fantastic. I put the lines down before they poured the concrete floor using PEX tubing. Have never regretted it.

Yes it will take a lot of money to fix the power grid. And more so, the LONGER WE PUT IT OFF. That's the problem - the unwillingness to think ahead.
And there you have it. How much farther along would we have been here in the west if Phases 2 and 3 had been allowed to be completed on the Columbia and Snake River dams? AND how much more will it now take to upgrade the electrical grid that would have already been in place? To many times the Minority has been allowed to stand in the way of what really needs to be done to insure a better future for America. To much of the "Tail Wagging the Dog" mentality.

Joe, you have no idea of the problems a lot of the smaller dams created in the PNW and the havoc that resulted to the salmon and steelhead populations. Lots of smaller ones that didn't really produce much power are being taken out which is a good thing for the fish runs. Wanting to preserve what is best about the PNW is a good thing.
Barb,
Once again you change what was said to fit your arguement. I said nothing about the smaller dams, only the large dams on the Columbia and Snake rivers. Had those, I believe 9, dams been allowed to be completed we would have vastly more electricity available now. That would have also spurred upgrades to the power grid to handle it. We would be much farther along the road that everyone seems to want us to take. I don't argue that a lot of the smaller dams did a lot of damage to many things, but I've also watched as certain people continue to over fish the Salmon runs and blame the Sport Fishermen for ruining the runs. These are arguements for a different time though.

Howdy Brad,
I am sure you meant no offense, but how can I maintain my reputation of being a "Cob" if I don't call out such things. I am feeling better and getting stronger everyday, the climate change since leaving the Nor-Wet, has helped tremendously. Just got back from a great SxS ride, took a wrong turn and ended up exploring a valley I had not been in before all is well.
Dave
Dave,
Glad to hear your doing better and having fun down south out of the good ole nor-wet. However I'm sure you would have really enjoyed being here when we had the big wind storm a while back. The one that took out power to most of our part of this corner of the country. I'm sure you would have been part of that had you been here. LOL

I wondered how long it would take for this discussion to come around to Hydro power. Something that is way under utilized in my opinion. That said we can truly thank both the Indians and the Tree Huggers in the PNW for the fact that we don't have more power generation capacity. ALL of the dams on the Columbia and Snake Rivers were designed to be built in 3 phases. The 2nd and 3rd phase was primarily to add more Electric Generation capacity. However thanks to the groups mentioned above none of the dams has had even the 2nd phase completed.
Also in KOMIEfornia it was once proposed to put power generation stations along the many hundreds of miles of canals. Think of how much extra power that would have generated. Hundreds of miles of canals with water flowing at an average speed of 22 mph could have made a whole lot of power. Again the Tree Huggers put a stop to that proposal.
Now folks want us to all go to electric vehicles, which may or may not be a good thing. Not an arguement I care to get into. However I can say that the infra structure to support something like that is way behind the curve of it being feasible at this time. I make that statement from having seen EV's lined up waiting for their turn to charge at a Telsa charging station on the Oregon Coast last January. And from several trips since nothing has changed to improve that little detail.

Unless they've changed their schedule, the open house day at the Paccar Technical Center used to be on a Saturday in mid-April, during the Tulip Festival in nearby LaConner. It's a fascinating place and well worth the time to tour, if anybody is ever in the area at that time.
Your right Phil, it is during the Tulip Festival in April. My Bad on the month. And yes it is well worth the time to attend. Learn something new every time I am over there. It is to bad that the general public can't see the Torture Track they run the trucks over. Makes my Kidney's hurt just thinking about it. LOL

I've heard of that guy, haven't seen him around for a while though. He's probably a bit more familiar with the facility than I am though. All I've done is paint the Stripes on the 2 tracks they have there. Been given a tour now and again while we were there working. Very interesting place.

Cool, reminds me of the Paccar test facility in Burlington, WA. While they don't build them there, they just do all the testing. They also generally have an Open House once a year, I believe in March.

This is all well and good, but without some very serious upgrades to our current electrical grid it just plain ain't gonna work. Case in point, California with their rolling blackouts during the peak summer temperatures because their grid can't handle the demand of all the AC units running. Then throw in all them new "fangled" battery operated vehicles and someone is going to be out of power. Actually a whole lot of somebodies. And that type of power grid isn't only in CA, most of the country is not much better off in that regard. On top of that, how many Power Companies do you see trying to upgrade their system so that they can handle that demand. Let alone where is the power going to come from to supply the demand. We know that neither solar or wind will do it. Going to have to be some other kind of Power Generation developed to handle it. But that's just my .02

We will be attending a Funeral here in Oak Harbor, WA. It is for my Pet Pig and we will celebrate by cooking one of his Hams.🐷

I don't know that I'd put them ahead of the medical community and first responders, but I would sure put them on the early list, along with workers in meat packing and most all parts of the food industry. I do know that the Texas plan has a lot more levels to it than I listed as they are working to prioritize a lot of positions and jobs.
For the first shot I would put them first. Then if there is a problem we don't start losing our Medical personnel. Reasoning being that most of them are sitting around doing nothing but whining and collecting a paycheck. 😡 At least up here that's what's going on.

You also need to be aware that further restrictions go into effect starting at 11:59pm on 11-16-2020. One of which BANS any inside gatherings. Once again all restaurants will be restricted to Take Out Only and other businesses are restricted to 25% occupancy. Sadly the main reason for this is the Seattle Area. There are many areas in the state that could still be in phase 3 where they have been for quite a while.

I also use Firefox and the problem is intermittent. Will work fine for several days, then out of the blue I need to log in. However if I just ignore the login and visit a couple of other sites then come back to SKP it usually logs me in. Really no set pattern and no seeming reason for it. Hence my blaming something going on with the site.

Same thing here. With things set to keep me signed in I was signed out twice. Tried going back to the site approx 15 minutes later and walla, I was signed in again.
You have your opinion of things and I have mine, I still say it's the site.

I use Firefox and a security program. My take is still that the site is screwed up.

I cleared the cookies yesterday and ended up having to create a new account to log back in. So the site is still screwed up.

Glenn,
I have heated the garage to the low 60's at times, generally keep it in the low 50's though. Since I'm moving around it's not uncomfortable and my feet stay warm because the floor is around 65 degrees. This is in a standard pole barn construction garage that has 3 14foot tall RV doors in it and is 25 feet to the peak of the roof.
I have a 16 X 20 room built in it though that I use for doing finish work on wood projects and that stays at 67. Only because that is where I have the thermostat set. For a heat sourse I am using a commercial Rinnai on demand water heater that is propane fired.
Hope this helps.
