Apparently there is an Android app for that Apple tracker. We thought about getting one for our dog but they only work when there are iPhones near.

It starts when school gets out and winds up when it goes back into session (June to late August?). It's mostly staffed by High Schoolers. Very enjoyable.

The road in from Cody is very scenic and goes right to Fishing Bridge. We took it out in early October last year. I think it is the highest section of the park so may have snow longer than other entrances.

If you have 0.5 seconds and are surprised, it doesn't matter what deterrent you carry. You will not get it deployed. Maybe with 1.5 seconds if you practice before hand. And carrying a .44 mag hand cannon around will not appeal to most of us.

My impression is that bears usually go thru a threat display before charging giving you some time to get whatever you have out, and to back away. Butt if they usually charge out of the bushes with no warning then you are done.

I don't think there is any doubt that Bear Spray is the number one choice of deterrent. But how often does it work/not work?

As for a handgun, a modern double stack pistol with modern high quality ammo, would seem to me to be effective given the large number of rounds available. 15 or 17 in most full sized 9mm. IF you have time to use it and if you can hit what you are aiming at.

A CO2 extinguisher would be worthless, the gas would escape out the open bottom of the engine compartment. I've been to Navy fire fighting school multiple times and am quite familiar with the various types of extinguishers.

CO2 extinguishers are effective when the gas is 'trapped' around the fire or you can supply new gas faster than it escapes. They are rated BC anyway not ABC

Would not have worked, a stream of water from a hose did not easily put it out. I have a fire extinguisher on hand anyway. Once that plastic gets going no small dry chem extinguisher will put it out.

I am using a spam blocker. To be effective registration has to be paired with approval by a human, usually with a short message from the person asking for access and showing that they are human. I was a moderator on several photography lists and ran a major Windows forum on Compuserve (remember that?).

This requires appointing a few volunteer mods to do the user approval.

If it keeps up you may have to require registration to post on the list then

This spammer has been operating for more than a week now so that is not the problem. They don't need a spam blocker they need to ban the IP addresses of whoever is doing it.

Can't the SKP tech people ban/block that person who is spamming the lists? I didn't count them, if I can count that high, but there must have been over fifty spam msgs this morning. The number seems to be increasing every day. Soon it will be impossible to read the list anymore.

If the in house tech people don't know how to stop it then it's time to bring in outside help.

OK here is the situation as of this afternoon:
Went to a RAM and a Ford dealer, neither had anything at a reasonable price. The RAM guy had a 2017 diesel in the lot at the upper end of our range. The bed was rusty, it was the low end trim model, the door groaned and squealed as it was opened. And when you turned the truck on the first thing you see is the "REPLACE FUEL FILTER". So these people were too lazy to oil the door hinges and service the filters on a $47000 sale. Does not inspire confidence.
The Ford guy just did not have anything except a gasser priced as high as the diesels
Went to the "Truck Spot" the owner came out, we told him our parameters and he proceeded to show us 6 or 8 trucks. All spotless.

Found one 2018 RAM 2500,4WD shortbed, not sure what trim level but has backup camera and such. Color dark red, not my fav but heck not a killer either. $39K, 43K out the door! As is but so were the dealer models.
Hopefully the insurance company will come thru Wednesday, otherwise we will put a deposit down. Off to the CU in the morning. The one potential problem is 204K on the clock. But with a diesel I'm not worried but the CU may not like it.
Assuming we get it I'll run it down to the RAM dealer for filter/fluid changes and to get them to check it out. Florida has I think a 72hr 'change your mind law' that says you can back out of a contract in that period of time. Not sure if it apples to used trucks tho.
It has a grill guard/winch bumper and front receiver. No winch but that could be added. Side steps too. Cloth seats but that is minimal concern.
We need a topper but the dark red color is problem. Maybe get a white one and have it painted.
