  1. In the last two years we have been on at least 25 states roads, probably a few more.

Florida (and yes that is our home) has some of the best roads and the reason is obvious, Florida really tries to lure tourists, good roads = more visitation. Plus they spend the fed money for road repair on repairing roads.

The worst we have been in is as always Louisiana, I10 has improved a bit tho. Of course tho we just about never drive on Cali roads the worst spot has to be saved for that state. And Lo and Behold, SKP gave us a 7 day free pass to Coarsegold so now we will be driving in that state. Down to Lassen then across to 395 south as far as possible. But on the otherhand seeing Yosemite once more will be worth it.

We thought Oklahoma had bad roads in general. Georgia, Alabama were in the better pots, Mississippi below that. NM, AZ pretty good. ND, SD, ID, MT, WY all in the middle and they have winter damage every year.

When someone thought Texas had good roads in the east I was surprised. Actually Texas roads are bad in the east but get better past Austin IMO.

One thing that took me aback, MN I90 is marked impassible for RV's by RVTW. I've heard folks complaining about I90 over the years but it is out of our norm tracks.,

Since the efforts to separate people and bears began to be effective more than 30 years ago, it has become rare for anyone to see a grizzly and the black bears are usually at some distance. People regularly travel through the park on motorcycles and do not encounter any bears of either type.

The closest we've every seen a Griz is maybe 250 yards and that was a sow/cub pair on a hillside off the northern road

"Side note.  I think I have read somewhere that there are some parks that won't allow anything but a hard sided camper.  Not even pop-up tent campers.  Anyone know this for sure"

That's common in the mountain states.

  3. You have zero hope of getting sites inside the park so it will have to be a private cg. The only advice I can give is to get reservations as early as possible. Take a look at YNP parks in Campground Reviews

As for seeing Yellowstone and the Tetons, we have spent at least a month in YNP and probably 2 weeks in GT and still haven't seen it all. We plan on another 4 or 5 days in August to see the Lamar Valley in YNP this year. YNP is bigger than some eastern states.

  4. It is only individual so unless there is a problem with vehicle titles, I don't see an issue. You could call the county tax assessor office in the county you plan to use and ask them. Are you planning to use a mail service for the address?

Maybe getting a written power of attorney from your wife would take care of the title issue if there is one. May depend on whether the title is "and" or "or". As in Jane or Joe Smith vs Jane and Joe Smith

  5. Yeah Paperwhite is you want if are reading books with mostly text in them, if you are looking at books with photos, maps, or other graphics then you want the Fire which is larger with a color display, but gets shorter battery life. The Fire does have a camera. There is some advanced paperwhite which is claimed to be better but it is a lot more expensive, $300 last time I looked.

Amazon sometimes puts the Fire on sale for less than $90. And you can hack the fire to use the google store apps.

  6. OK Clark Howard is a radio consumer guy, I occasionally catch him online. His recomendations for online banking are:

    Best online banks 2021

I have no personal experience with any of them. And for military credit unions:

    Military Credit unions

I see a lot of folks recomending USAA if you are ex-military. Some on the list allow anyone to join tho.

I want to switch over to a more friendly bank or credit union, ours is a hassel to deal with to say the least and they been sold to another bank for the third or fourth time too.

  7. OK first the problem was not just with the magician, it is with any event in the east or west pavillions. The small hall sound is OK and I assume the meeting room over in the hospitality room has good sound too.

Secondly I was walking over to the halls and fell in with a couple, the guy seemed to know about the sound issue and he said that equipment has been ordered to fix the sound reverb problem but failed to arrive in time.

Hopefully it will get here today.

  8. Today was the first day with a lot of sessions, starting with the opening ceremony. And in two of the venues, the east and west pavilion the acustics is absolutely terrible.I sat thru 4 sessions and understood maybe one word in 10, there is a very bad echo. Now I admit my sense of hearing is awful, done in by the Navy. But my wife with the statdard female 'bat ear super hearing ability' says that she could maybe understand half of what was said.

The preparations for the Escapade are excellent with this one exception. They seem to have thought of just about everything and have dealt with potential problems very well. I guess doing something 60 times counts for something. But they obviously missed the sound quality, I'm no acoustic engineer but it seems if acoustic tiles may have made a big difference. Maybe they should have consulted a sound engineer.

I gave up during the entertainment, a magic show with little magic, and went back to the camper. My wife stuck it out and reported that she could not understand the women magician. And the women driving the transport cart told me she has had a steady stream of folks leaving and most complaining about the sound. My wife said the pavilion was more than half empty by the intermission in the show.

Now I don't want to slam the organizers, just suggest that the add sound quality to their list of things to do. Especially considering the probably more than half the men attending have hearing loss. I just hope the seminars are better or I will have paid a bunch and driven 1800 miles for a disappointment. Those tents were hotter than Hades too, had to be 90 degrees or above inside during the opening ceremony. They might move in some of those giant industrial fans.

Kirk Wood by the way got a well deserved Presidents Award. Congrats Kirk.

Checkin is in the tan building along with Coffee/Donuts, Volunteer opportunities, and I assume a lot of other events.

They say about have the attendees have arrived, we got here early this morning. Spent some time looking for Kirk but no one knew where he was. We are in Boomerville W277 and I'll be at the photo BOF table 9-12 Saturday.

Ken thank you for responding. Yes it is a breaker off, on switch in the breaker panel. I’ll see if I can get that cover plate off and disconnect the breaker. Great help thank you.

Make sure you are disconnected before doing this and all 120V is off. Breakers usually have one wire going into the breaker. Disconnect that and then the breaker can usually be pulled out with a rocking motion. Reverse to install a new one.

Fuse Switch???? Do you mean the breaker?  If this is the case, breakers can go bad.  You should be able to pull the breaker and take it to your local hardware store for a replacement.

Park power can also be bad, did you test it before hooking up. Also it is bad practice to leave the a/c on when hooking up. Shut that off and turn it on after you hook up successfully.

  12. For you folks coming in from the east on I80 there is extensive construction from Laramie west especially thru rawlings, it then mostly vanishes until just east of Rock Springs. It mainly makes the road single lanes each way and has stretches of 45 mph and 65 mph. So not a major slow down.

We saw an unending string of RV's heading west on I80. And the cg where we are overnight, Tex's Travel seems to be mostly Escapees. We check in Friday at Sweetwater.

  13. Can we have packages sent to the Sweetwater site?

Also I am signed up to arrive Saturday and have been trying to add Friday the 16th. Do we contact the site directly or the Escapees. We've tried phone, and email address that was in the Extras newsletter was bad, and this afternoon the SKP email address. No luck so far.

    Thanks

    BK

  14. I suspect there aren't that many FL CPA's with knowledge of CA laws. Our usual refugees are from the NE, NY State in particular. How about getting your CA guy and one of the FL CPAs talking. The CA CPA could advise the FL CPA, or use a national CPA company that has offices or contacts in both states.

Maybe one of these: Florida CPA firms

  15. Every once in awhile Campground Reviews sends reviewers a message telling them how many views their posts have had. I just went over 10,000 and was at 99 total reviews. I then got a message saying I was being rewarded with two years free of RV Life of which of most interest to me contains RVTW. I think, but don't quote me, that it costs $49/year.

The morale is, posting reviews can be lucrative. It's a good move on their part too, Pour encourager les autres. If my HS French still works

  16. OK I finally, think anyway, that I fixed our perplexing and progressively getting worse electrical problems. For awhile we have been have power on, power out mainly 12V phantom problems. Then last stop we lost power period but via jury rig I got some stuff working. Anyway I finally just started checking from power line in all they way thru the converter. I even pulled the range out to access the converter other than thru a tiny port hole.

The end result a burned connection on the power in line and a loose hex screw on the wire between the converter 12V out and the fuse box doohicky.

I was so bad at one point I considered aborting the trip so we could return home and have better facilities to work on the system. Right now our woes exended to fridge works on electric but failed yesterday on propane. I pulled the orifice and it seemed to be clean, a solid stream of brake cleaner shot thru ot any way. That was the only cleaner I had on hand. Smelled no propane tho so I suspect the propane valve. That's for the day ahead tho.

So we are near Mamouth Cave at WAX COE working our way slowly to Rock Springs.
