  1. Yep that's my RV. The picture was taken in the cracker barrel parking lot in Pooler Ga.  "apparently" the rest of the people in the RV aren't interested in "making good time" lol. seriously  though, we always stop there on almost every trip up I95. we have friends nearby.

    Load pipes save lives.

Bull Shit. Intentional riders save lives.  Loud pipes are only loud BEHIND you.  There is nothing more advantageous than staying out of blind spots and assuming that the rest of the world isn't looking. If you think  loud pipes can be heard inside a modern middle class car, you're mistaken.

  3. So we are thinking of taking a 2 week trip to S.D. next June.  I have been looking at campgrounds and prices. I have been reading lots of reviews. This leads me to some questions.

    1. Lot's of complaints about water quality and rust color. I have 100 gallons of fresh water, But that doesn't last 2 weeks for a family of 3. Is there an inline filter good enough to handle this? I don't want to contaminate my entire coach with brown stuff.

    2. Price. I see campsites from pretty reasonable to "have you lost your mind?"  Where have you folks stayed?  Is there room enough for my 40 ft coach and my toad? Would you stay there again? was there good value in the amenities?

    3. What other things have you done besides MT Rushmore? Is there enough things to do and explore to keep my history loving family entertained for week or 2? What kinds of things are you guys doing? is there an "off the beaten path" way to see the area?

Thanks for any suggestions you have, Steve

  4. I teach "street survival" schools here in Fla.  One of the most common eye opening moments for teens is the concept of not letting other people drive their vehicle. If you insist on cruising next to the same person at the same speed then you lose an important option if you need to make an emergency choice. You just let the other guy drive your car for you. This is even more important in a rig 70ft long and 40k lbs.  And if you've ever seen a trailer start wagging back and forth after a blow out, you would never want to drive beside on again.

The 2nd eye opening thing is the number of PARENTS that will text their teens DURING on course exercises. REALLY? could you not have waited 30 minutes to give a "good job" ? Of all the students that I've taught over the years,  the VAST majority admit to being in the car while their parents text and drive.

When people text my phone when I am driving. I let my teenage daughter do the work of responding (she's ALMOST" as sarcastic as I am). If my wife does the texting it is almost always polite with no sarcasm at all. Truth is, as RVs we probably aren't traveling alone. There is NO/NONE/ZERO reason to have the driver playing with a phone.

We tend to rely on active cruise and lane maintenance devices and abs, But truth is YOU are responsible for the safe operation of YOUR truck. I'm "probably" through ranting now. :)

  5. So can we stop BASHING a COMPANY that is looking to MAKE MONEY. and revert back to the original question?

Was the KOA in Cherokee NC in it's current location, or somewhere else? It was really a simple question, yet not a single person posted anything useful to the matter at hand. If I was looking for an argument I would have posted in the "politics" section

I certainly hope you are not referring to the one in Charleston/Mount Pleasant, out on Rt. 17 North.  We stayed in that one last year for a week.  It was just under $70 a night and what a nightmare.  Low hanging branches, bad 50amp breaker that we had to beg them to get replaced, plus when our SIL and BIL wanted to stop by for dinner at our site the office wanted them to pay $8 for visiting us.  It was rundown and we were not impressed with the staff.

Maybe you are referring to the other KOA in Charleston?

Yes. Based on your review of that one, we stayed in the other Charleston KOA. It was a bit run down, but excellent staff and good power.

.I can tell you that generally speaking most of the KOA affiliated campgrounds we are seeing around the country are overpriced and run down.

Actually we stayed in KOA parks 5 times last year. The only one that was remotely run down was the one in Charleston. And in that case the staff more than made up the difference.  We did however only venture to "touristy" areas.

The local campground that used to be a KOA was in REALLY sad shape for many years before they lost the franchise.

  8. Some of my fondest camping memories as a child were in the KOA at Cherokee N.C. We were in Gatlinburg last week and decided to drive over and check it out. This cannot possibly be the same campground. Did the KOA franchise move? Did they do a complete remodel? I was not disappointed by hte current campground, It just isn't what I remember. I even shoed a map to my Dad and he doesn't remember the campground being there either. So now I'm wondering what happened to the old one. Do any of you guys remeber the KOA from the 80s?

Any input would be welcomed. Seems trivial I know, But it's bugging me.

  9. I just put new toyos on it. good for 7100 ish lbs each. I wanted the highest load rating I could get since truck conversions run nose heavy. Most of the time I'm good, But I wanted some extra capacity.

  10. So I upgraded the front wheels and tires on my truck conversion to get more axle weight. The problem that i have now is that the tpms systems only seem to go up to 115 psi.

Are any of you folks running a system that reads higher? Thanks as always.
