I got to see Henry in action and let me tell you I do not think his mind ever stops thinking on how a project will work. he is definitely one of those person " Who has probably forgotten more than I will ever know".

Maybe some year I will make it to the national rally in "Hutch" that is what those of us who grew up in Kansas called it.

It would be nice to have the option to "thank" a post like many forums have. You may not have anything to contribute to the post, but at least it shows your appreciation for it and lets the one know who posted his time wasn't totally wasted.

I agree!!! It would at least let the person see somebody read it and agreed or liked it. I have to admit since I have put up this post I have tried to go back and at least respond in  some way to the other posts on the site, that I have read. What is it they say, Practice what you preach????

  3. Last summer on the way back to Kansas the wind was blowing like crazy and I 40 from Kingman east to Texas is bumpy and horrible running bobtail, tandem axel with nothing to weight it down.

So between the bouncing and the wind, on the second day of the trip, my wife looks out the window of the passenger side and says the rear fairing is coming off. I slow down, pull over and open up the passenger side rear storage department. I put on a couple of gloves and get out my extra wide zip ties. I put 5 zip ties around the bottom frame and where the holder should have been, I had work done just before that and they were gone. Zips in place and we were off.

What would we do without Zip ties, Gorilla tape and bailing wire????

Parts coming this week. With the help of my friends above, especially Chet, was able to test my solenoids and found two were bad. Apparently winch solenoids only last 3-5 years in use. Mine are 12. At Chet’s suggestion I’m installing an Albright winch contactor. He has link above. I already have a 12 volt isolater switch but am upgrading.  Finding the correct wiring diagram for the Albright was a chore but think I’ve got it. Went over to truck yesterday and checked for continuity and relabeled my A wire, F1, & F2 to winch. Your thread on “the forum” is timely. There is a wealth of knowledge and knowledgeable people who are willing to help. For new folks, read each thread and you will soon learn who they are. I have.

Good to hear and best of luck!

  5. How is the Winch fix / repair going? Did you get it up and running?

Rental properties.... I own a rental property, I used to do all of the work and deal with renters. I switched to a property management company about 5 years ago. It got rid of the headaches, plus I got lazy.

    Best of luck!!!!

  6. When I retire (5 years) I plan on buying property and a house in the South East. By then I will have both my Semi (done) & my 5th wheel purchased ( It is almost confusing when trying to pick one out. We go monthly to see different models and plan) anyway I might have to be come an attendee of the ECR in the future.

So I'm going to guess you might have to eat crow. The thread has not gone "Viral" for sure, but I think "many" have responded and provided good input.

That's what keeps the forum active. Posting a thread and the responses. Reading all the post's daily is good, but you have to let someone know you have read it, maybe liked it or disagreed with it.

A good public speaker entertains the crowd for 15 to 30 minutes and then spends the next 30 minutes answering questions. A bad public speaker talks for an hour and the audience walks out as quickly as possible after. My opinion anyway.

    Rod,

You are correct I woke up this morning to many people posting! I would love to see more chime in!! Many who have posted seem to agree with my observation. I am just happy to know people are still reading the threads / topics and responding. Most of the fun in this forum is the friendships created from helping each other and getting to know each other. Since I am a teacher I can't make it to the national rally in Hutchison, which is sad because it is 150 miles West of my home town of Pittsburg Kansas, yep no "H" in our Pittsburg, but we are a football town.

I joined Escapees back in 1999 when we first started full timing.  Didn't join the forum until 2006.  Scan the unread content nearly every day.  Have learned a LOT from this group.  Ran with an MTD for ten years and this HDT forum was VERY useful!

Will miss most of May due to participation in RFTW XXXIII - an 8200 mile ride on the Harley.

Cory, you are spot on regarding participation decline.  However, compared to FB, the educational value of the Escapee forum is one heck of lot better - so much knowledge here!  I don't respond much unless I feel I truly have something worth sharing.

I recently got into laser engraving and CNC woodworking (hobby) and have found a couple of FB groups very helpful but the number of total jerks on there is certainly discouraging.

Cory, keep us posted on the progress on your ride....

Not Problem Lenp - I will keep you updated as Jack sends me pictures!!!

I've been noticing that there are simply not as many questions posted as there used to be. I've been on here about 15 years and it used to take quite a bit of time every day to read and to respond when I thought I had something of value to say. Now, a half hour or less gets everything done. I miss all that interaction. I even miss my disagreements with BarbaraOK. :)

    😅I agree.

OP what you say is oh so true.   I've been coming here and reading since the very early 2000's (maybe even the late 90's) and there was much more interaction and various subjects to read, follow and ask questions on.   Sadly social media has taken over everything with the younger generations with ease on internet watches, iPhones, androids etc etc.   Sadly my old arthritic thumbs and eyesight nowadays don't lend themselves to my typing on a screen.   Being a speed typist background for more decades than I care to remember, I much prefer keyboards and searching from a laptop/computer.

Also I've seen an awful lot of the old names disappear that used to actively participate here = aged out, sadly passed away or just left after many years of providing such valuable input.   Folks like BarbOK, Stanley and many others you never see much or at all anymore.

It's a sign of the times that's for sure and a new era taken over mainly by those remotely working on line a lot now and into different venues of their interests.   Kudos to those of you that still contribute when we pose Q's or rambling thoughts whether from your RVs as you travel or from your armchairs 👍.

Thanks for the input, I just looked at when I joined, it was 2014. I guess I have not been here that long, 9 years, but it sure has been fun!!!

  12. Is it ever going to stop????? I remember when a gallon of gas was .65 .

I also have pictures of my grandpa's service station and gas was .05 per gallon in Arma Kansas.

Occasionally I go on the Facebook HDT forum to provide an intelligent answer to an intelligent question among pile of salutation, dumb ass stuff and the likes. I don't remember who said it that social media provided an outlet to people who have nothing useful to say. So they have the volume, I prefer this volume and the in depth discussions. I bet you we have a larger volume that the posts may suggest, it's the people who lurk, learn and choose not to post the inane stuff.

    Phoenix,

Your words ring true also! Over the last 5 years or so you have given me good advice and I have appreciated it! I agree on Facebook there a lot of people saying things that are not worth saying or being read. I like how on the forum topics are posted and somewhat organized to a degree. Thanks for teaching me over the years!

    Howdy Cory,

Your right, much less participation on all forums that I am involved in. To me the forums are much more personal, I hate facebook, don't have an account and rarely post to it under my wife's account.  I find it much easier to type on a real keyboard then try to type on my phone, easier to read a computer screen then a phone, much easier to post photos and view them on a computer, gettin old I guess, now get off my lawn..............

    Dave

    Dave,

I agree, I would rather sit down at my computer, think and type things out. I use Facebook but it is not the same as the forum. I think we get to know each other better here. On Facebook everything is jumbled together and it has a much different feel. The Heavy Duty Trucks for RVing Facebook page is great for some things but not for others. I just remember a lot more friendly and lively conversation 5 or 6 years ago on here. When somebody would post you would have a lot of people respond. I just see a lot of interesting discussions started but very few post or try to help the person who posted. Anyway always good to talk to you Dave! If you ever make it back through Vegas we will have to go to Big Dogs Patio again for a beverage!
