I know what you mean. Ā My wife road in a Volvo recently (similar vintage to the one being discussed here) and was amazed how much quieter the cab was than our 2000 model year T2000. Ā The newer trucks have definitely made improvements over the older trucks in that area (as well as others).

Honestly if I was ready to move to a toyhauler and shorten my truck I would have bought it. But, I still have the girls at home, which I love and we need the long deck to haul the 4 seat SXS. Our current setup works really well for us. I just couldnā€™t talk myself into replacing the old truck to basically do the same build again. He had replaced the front axle recently as it had the air ride front end. It was pretty quiet and smooth. I have never driven an ishift either. Have driven some of the older automated pacer transmissions and the Volvo was pretty smooth there as well. I am sure Jen and Jodi where very aligned in their thoughts šŸ˜‰

Appears to be a smokin' deal.Ā  Wonder why it hasn't sold.

We are a small farming community and Volvo is not a real popular truck locally. If you donā€™t have a long hood you donā€™t have a truck. Donā€™t know much about it other than what I shared. I did drive it and it was super quiet and smooth but I drive a 2000 Kenworth. Probably not a great comparison. My wife liked it a lot.Ā

  3. If this is not allowed please remove. This is a local truck from an owner operator family that came on some hard times. He was hanging onto this one but has made the decision to get out completely. He dropped the price substantially now. I went and looked and drive the truck but am not affiliated. If I was at a different time and building another truck I would have picked this up. He had service records and has logged most of the miles himself. Could make someone a nice truck. Just sharing if someone is looking. I do have a cell # for him if interested would share over PM.Ā https://www.facebook.com/share/px3r68fT6jzZwqvp/?mibextid=79PoIi

  4. I am going to take my girls to Vegas for a couple days for their mid winter break at the end of February. We will just be passing through so will be there for a couple days before we head down to Hoover Dam and Lake Meade recreation area where we have some property. We donā€™t normally stop in Vegas but my oldest daughter has some art galleries she want to see. So, any recommendations for Big Rig family friendly parks?

I have been a part of several RV forums for more than 20 years and in my opinion, Chad is one of the very most knowledgeable RV solar people that I have observed. And I am not electrically challenged as I made my living in it for more than 40 years. If I were adding solar to an RV I would follow his advice to the letter.

Not only is Chad one of the most knowledgeable he is one of the most willing to share knowledge freely regardless of your ability to understand or execute. Absolutely a first class individual.Ā

  6. Yes for sure. I do mine every year and make sure all the fluids are checked. I used to do my own but found a local shop that will do the fuel filter and fluid change as well as inspect the truck for about what I paid for oil. Makes it easy. Disposal of that much oil was the pain. Regardless I would make sure you have fresh oil and 2nd the analysis. I am a huge believer in those.Ā

The question is, how much time am I going to actually have to get everything ready before the WCR? Ā A lot of things have to fall into place, but I am hoping for the best.

I hope things fall into place for sure. With that said there will be lots of willing, maybe not so capable, hands at the WCR to help if needed šŸ™‚. Rally projects are the best. Much funner than being home.Ā

  8. Chad I saw the video last night. I am so grateful you are ok and that you were pulling with a rig that allowed some ability to control the situation once the situation took over. I also appreciate your willingness to share your story. I have been involved in transportation and training drivers for almost 25 years now. Had you not been paying attention, which is all to common on the roads today this could have ended much worse. I am sorry to hear about the trailer as it was a beautiful rig. I wish you the best with the insurance company and sorting those material things out. Ā Again, so glad that you walked away unharmed.Ā

  9. We got a quote to repair it and submitted to insurance and they totaled the rig due to water damage. We were never able to determine the source of the water but looked to be a washer leak prior to us owning the rig that was never disclosed and covered up pretty well. The delaminating continued to get worse until we just cut our losses and sold the rig fully disclosing the problems to the new owner. New owner was an rv tech that had the resources to tear it down and complete the repair. I think our quote on the repair was in the neighborhood of 35k. I was pretty said because as you said it was not a cheap rig and we very much figured it would be our last for a long time.Ā

I would recommend you call DRV and find the closest authorized repair center, different than service center, and take it to them for a full inspection. With it only being 4 years old there is a very good chance DRV will do something to make it right with repairs. They were very helpful with ours but it was old enough there was no obligation on their side to help our situation.Ā

We have a Pullrite Superglide, it automatically moves the trailer back from the cab while turning. Ā Itā€™s automatic. Ā I highly recommend it.Ā

Plus 1 on the superglide. They are bulky but make a huge difference in any stress with turning. Mine is in a megacab Ram. Keep an eye out for used ones. I picked mine up cheap.Ā

Where did you put it? When full it could weigh almost 1000 lbs. according to my calculation.Ā

    Rod

Hi Rod. I used to carry it in the bed of my dually but it was heavy. On the Kenworth I have a set of 3ā€ ratchet straps that hold it against the frame and under the bed with extra bracing. At some point I will finish the lower bed cabinet that it will ride in all nice and clean.Ā

  12. Hi Dave. I have been contemplating the IS as well for my Solitude and may still down the road. Ā This spring I installed the Comfort Ride Slipper Spring kit with shocks. I also upgraded to 8000 lb springs in the process. There is a noticeable difference in the ride. Company is just down the road from you in Vancouver. I installed kit myself by myself with a couple floor jacks. We have about 10,000 miles since the install and have been happy so far. Kit was about $1200 if I remember correctly. Again, it is not Mor-ryde IS but it is a huge upgrade from stock as the axles move independently. I had disc brakes on our Mobile Suites prior to this coach and definitely plan to do that upgrade in the future. Big truck stops the rig fine as is but still prefer the disc brakes.Ā

  13. I carry a 120 gallon well pressure tank. The rubber bladder in the tank makes it pressurized so it is like being hooked to a hydrant. It will pressurize to whatever static pressure you fill it with. That is about 100 psi at my house. There is a hose bib on the outlet and I just put my regulator and hose on it and then hook the other end to the rv.Ā

  14. I called Kenworth and have a new door sticker coming. Should be here next week. That will satisfy the inspection. The last 6 are several places in the truck just couldnā€™t find the full VIN.Ā

Hi tyrates007 - go to a KW dealer and ask them to get you a new sticker from Kenworth.Ā  At the time I was involved with the business the replacement sticker is sent to the dealer who has to apply it to the door for you.Ā

    Ā

I called them Friday about this. Sounds like a good way to go.Ā

  17. We just moved back to Idaho and I need to have the truck inspected so I can get Idaho title and registration. I can not for the life of me find the vin#. StickerĀ on door frame is faded so number is not visible. There is no plate at the bottom of the windshield. I had the truck inspected in Washington when I bought it 7 years ago so I know it is some where. Truck is 2000 KW T2000. Any ideas?
