    I sold "Semi-Sane" to a couple who live and ranch in South Dakota, they do rodeo's perhaps it was them you talked too.  They are good folks who use the truck to tow a huge horse trailer with deluxe living quarters to and from South Dakota and Arizona each winter.

    I too like to do remote boondocking to use the SxS in rough terrain so if you have and are willing to share via PM the GPS coordinates of some big rig accessible boondock camp sites I sure would appreciate it, thanks.

    Yes there is a LOT of FREE BLM camping in and around Q, that said by the time you count the cost of diesel fuel and time going miles to dump and refill with water and get rid of your garbage, 40 bucks for 14 days with all of these things on site is cheap and EASY.  Just my opinion and it's a lot more secure then some of the free spots much less chance of things growing legs and going walkabout.

    Howdy Dennis,

    You can ride to the Big Tent area along side of Hwy 95, there is a trail on either side of the road.  There is also a large dry wash that runs through the WEST LTVA that goes through town and out the north side of town so you shouldn't have a problem getting from camp to the Big Tent and other vendors.

    Seems like no one who is here has checked into this thread, be that as it may, we now have 12 rigs here.  Plenty of space see all'yaall when you get here.  Steve and Gail, who head up the National HDT Rally, are here, first time they have been west.  Steve, who flies a 747, will be my co-pilot for today's SxS ride should be interesting tales around the campfire this evening.

    Howdy DMK,

    Many of us will be here for weeks, some for a month or two.  Easiest to find our group is, Goto the La Posa South, LTVA.  This is located about 4 miles SOUTH of I-10, in Qurartszite, on the EAST side of Hwy 95. 

    When you enter the LTAV go about 1.5 miles  on the main ( the ONLY ) real road and you will come to a sewer dump station on the right, garbage dumpsters on the left and the fresh water point which is on the right about 200 yards east from the dump station. 

    STOP, look to your right at about a 45 degree angle, you should be able to see many of our rigs.  Continue EAST on the main road about a half mile, look to the right hand side of the road you will see some rocks that are painted GREEN and there may also be a traffic cone, turn and follow the trail across the low spot, turn to the right, follow the trail to our camp area.

    These are the GPS coordinates for last years camp which is about 200 yards from this years location, from these coordinates you can easily see our group.

    WE just survived 24 hours of HELL getting over Siskiyus (sp) pass, chains on, chains off, freeway closed directed back into Ashland, 8 hours of 2-5 mph traffic up the grade in the middle of a 20 mile long chain of trucks.  Had I known this was going to happen we would have just stayed parked on the shoulder and let the parade pass.  Good luck in travels.

    Truck with Smart Car on board weighs in at 23,000 pounds trailer loaded is right at 20,000/21,000 depending on what toys are in the box.  Rear axle ratio is 3.55, Cat C15 single turbo 550 HP, 1,850 PT, engine and 18 speed Auto-Shift.

    1,500 rpm in top gear ( 18th ) gives 72 mph road speed.  1,300 rpm gives 65 mph, 1,150 rpm gives 60 mph.  Average fuel mileage is 6.8 mpg driving the way I normally drive, up and down mountains all the time.  When it's safe to do so all things considered I run at 72 mph as in three years of owning and driving this truck it just likes to run at 1,500 rpm, anything below 1,300 it's not happy.  In 36,000 miles of western road travel to include MANY mountain ranges and high passes I have found that in my truck keeping the revs at 1,500 yields the best over all performance and mileage.  When driving in areas where It's best to run at 65-60 mph I split top gear and run in 17th or drop a full gear and go to 16th to keep the revs up and the Scan Gauge, shows this to be better for fuel mileage.

    I made a promise to myself that when I got into RV'ing, "I" was NOT going to be that guy who everyone was cussing at when they had traffic backed up for miles or didn't have the power to pass when the opportunity presented itself. 

    Would I like to get 10 plus mpg, heck yeah.  But to "me" the cost in frustration of being under powered, creeping up the grades and not being able to pass is just not worth it.  Then again I have been a speed, horse power and over all performance minded person my whole life so it just carries over into my choice of tow vehicle for RV'ing.  "IF" "I" were 30 years younger, there is no doubt what so ever that under the "Hood" would be a 1,000 HP, 2,250 PT, C16 engine that would probable get 5mpg or less and I could care less.  Does anyone need such a critter, heck NO, but then again do we really need a lot of things we want and enjoy.  Life is a short ride, none of us survive, enjoy it in every and any way you can.

    Life, if it is "lived" carries with it a risk.  One should be wary and not take unnecessary risk but living behind closed doors and in constant fear is not living.  Just my opinion, worth what you paid for it.

    Busy day, replaced right front brake air can, left can was replaced about a year ago, replaced air lines going from frame to both front air cans, replaced air line going to fan clutch, replaced both cab air bags.  I am tired.

    Today, I finished up what I have working on for the last month, monsoon rains have been falling in the Nor-Wet we have had twice the normal amount of rain over the last month the area where I can park my truck and trailer is fairly flat but with this much rain is very wet, no quite mud but close.  Of course, 75% of this work was done under the truck or trailer in the muck.

    I have been getting ready to go south, needed to get the trailer brakes working, this involved doing a work-around on the jackalopee until the new circuit board that Henry has sent to me arrives, rewiring the wires going to the individual wheels on the trailer and rerouting the hot lead to my brake controller and cleaning up all the mess in the pin box junction box.

    Those who have bothered to read my drivel over the years KNOW that "I" and anything electrical do NOT play well together.  However I think I am now ready to travel to Vancouver WA and get the new trailer suspension installed on the 14th and soon after journeying south to have my solar dialed in before heading to Quartszite.

    I want to take this opportunity to thank Chad and Brian, without whose online and over the phone help I would NOT have been able to get this done.  Thanks guys, I really do appreciate your help, sorry for being such a pest.
