SERVICE!  My local Honda dealer won't work on a Honda older than 10 years. Says he can't get parts. Every thing breaks down from time to time but is there a dealer to fix it is the question.  Most states have a good number of Harley service centers. Lots of low mileage Harleys owned by gray haired men that thought they wanted to be a biker that are now for sale cheep. Good luck!

You couldn’t give me a Harley, well you could but then I would trade for a more reliable bike, like a Honda

In our first motorhome, by the time we added fuel, water, etc. we only had 800 lbs available for gear so we weighed each thing when deciding what to bring. I had to trade my jeans for cotton slacks, our Corelle plates for plastic ones, and our canned goods for freeze-dried food to get under our limit. Have you actually weighed your gear?

    Linda

The original poster is camping within there state, not traveling the USA, don't have to weigh our gear, we each bring 3 changes of clothes and some food for 3 or 4 days camping.

Someone said each person would bring 1000 lbs of gear, I could bring all my clothes and not have 1000 lbs

I avoided the whole problem by not using any of the big social media platforms.  I am a member of a couple of discussion forums and that is it.   Of course I am also somewhat of a Luddite when it comes to my smart phone.  I use it to make phone calls when I am out and about.  Most of the time it is turned off while at home.  I do not understand how people are so attached that they must be connected 24/7.

    Safe Travels (or not)...

Itt is my only phone so I leave it on. Don't have a house phone. Don't have facebook

    Hello again all,

I have been gone for a while. Facebook looked like a good place to "have everything", but recent events have shown me how wrong I was. I had fallen for the bigger is better, everything in one place is the best you will ever get. Progress!!!!!! NOT.

I'm sure if my Grandparents, and even my Dad who is also gone would here me or read some of the things would give me the "I told you so" look or comment and it would be well deserved. Not that I had any ability to influence them as they did me, but just the thought that sometimes progress is a dual edged sword. Not only does it cut things to make our lives easier, but also cuts things that were really good as it concentrated only on the forward motion, forever scaring something that was pretty and pristine.

A few weeks ago, May 23, 2020 to be exact, I woke up just after midnight and felt I had had enough. Got out of bed booted up the computer and found a way to permanently disable my account. It's not an easy task. I was happy and slept much better for the remainder of the night than the few hours before. Then, after having the good night sleep I realized I was being selfish. I hadn't thought of others with my early morning action, thankfully I had 30 days to reconsider.

I'm not saying I am extremely popular, but I had formed a few private pages and groups during my time in the Facebook. I didn't want people who had enjoyed the comments, information and such from those pages or groups to suddenly lose them so I contacted some of my Facebook friends in hopes they would take over the "Admins" status of the page/group they were members of. Thankfully most agreed and I now feel comfortable in finalizing my removal from Facebook. As I went through the groups assigning new Admins and removing my name I was met with the information that I could "Never be a Primary Admin, ever again even if I chose to come back to Facebook." I'm good with that.

So, if you are still reading you will realize I do need an outlet. I always enjoyed logging onto the rvnetwork when I was first considering an RV and again when I discovered the HDT and a few other things. It is more difficult to follow each group here, but I certainly believe it's totally worth it. I do have a slight concern regarding the red triangle and the "Not secure" info on the site, but that happens with a local news outlet I also follow where some of my family lives.

Thanks for reading and comment a hello if you also tried but then have left Facebook.

You know you can just not log on to facebook instead of deleting to leave the groups you started?

It all depends on your level of experience as a rider, especially with the three you choices you have listed. The Honda will be the most trouble free, most likely followed by the Can Am, but maybe the Harley. The Can Am is a much different vehicle as compared to the other two. Have you considered a Polaris Spyder, side by side seating three wheel? They are quite fun.

    Rod

It is a Polaris slingshot not spider.

It doesn't need to be a diesel for flatland driving.  It does need to have a bigger footprint, better braking, and a more robust suspension.  I wouldn't tow that trailer with less than a 3500 series.  A 2500 would be minimal.  I like a margin for error.

My opinion is you are crazy to think they NEED a one ton truck to tow that RV.

That is the dry weight. You need to add the weight of: the two of you, your gear (this is about 1000# per person), propane, water, tools, and the hitch,

I find many people do not think about mirrors with rigs like yours. If you can not see the red marker light on the side of the trailer, at the back, you do not have the correct mirrors.

Best of luck and happy camping

You don’t add the people for the dry weight for the rv, they are inn the tow vehicle and added into that.  And how do you figure 1000 lbs per person for there gear? My wife and I don't have 500 lbs together in gear, you are going to scare people wanting to buy a RV talking like that.

  8. The group we ride Goldwing with went to Alaska about six years ago the guys left on Saturday morning and rode up to Anchorage, the wives flew up there on the following Friday and met the guys, spent two weeks sharin wandering around Alaska, then the wives flew home and the guy spent another week riding home.

Studies have proved air drying is more sanitary than cloth drying. I used to have proof, my kids showed me the website once.

    Yes, it is true.

We have a food truck, we can only air dry the dishes according to the state health department.

  10. If I was single, I would have a dishwasher, my wife likes doing dishes in the camper, at home we use the dishwasher. 38 years of marriage and I have never washed dishes, or did laundry. I have a great wife.

    Ok, serious question.....

Going down I-5 your going to have somebody tailing you ALL THE WAY to LA.

So why wouldn't you prefer to have ONE vehicle behind you, instead of a different vehicle every couple of minutes??

I understand the need to see people behind you.

I try to stay far enough back that the truck can see me AND most importantly I can stop before I meet the vehicle in front of me. Really, when you come down to it most folks driving cars do NOT realize how long it takes to stop a semi or RV.

I was almost killed by a semi that did NOT notice my left turn signal on a two lane highway.

I don't know if he was on the phone or fiddling with the radio, but I quickly turned right into the ditch and he had his brakes locked and smoking and finally came to a stop about a 1/4 mile from me.

I was mad as hell at him, but since I was driving a government vehicle I thought it probably was not a good idea to drive down to him and start discussing highway safety with him.

There is no reason not to drive safely. Just today between Yuma and Tucson it was interesting.

He stopped a 1/4 Mile from you and that was a close call?

I see my education is showing again as I reread my request. But I will take this opportunity to recommend the Red Barn Tire shop in Brownsville for any kind of maniacal work on your rig or your car. I have reread this post and run spell check a couple times. I hope I am speaking English here!

Maniacal? Spell check does not fix a word that is spelled correctly.

Why not a class A with a motorcycle lift on the rear?

A Goodwing trike is heavy. About 800 lbs just for the bike, make it a trike and the weight of the rack it is on is heavy I would guess.

You would need a tag axle and she is nervous about driving a dually.
