  1. Set up in my spot in South Florida for at least 5 months, maybe until June. New WiFi Ranger Go, is pulling the signal to me from the park office so far. Not many rigs here yet so that might go away as the park fills up. New managers here didn't like me parking my car next to the trailer on the concrete so I might have to move the truck to a spot a little farther away. It's possible that one of the smallest sites will stay empty this year and I can use it's parking spot. for the car.

  2. The San Juan loop is one of my most favorite rides. One year I rode or drove it almost every two weeks during the summer and fall. Fantastic colors in the fall. HOT during the day in the summer but had frost on the bike one morning when I woke up. Good thing I packed for some cooler weather, even though it was in the 90's the day I left.

That's a slooowwwwww train. Easy to beat it on a bike. My bride and I love that area, and especially CO-550. If you get a chance, and feel like taking a rather long day ride, do the loop of Ouray/Telluride/Dolores and back to Durango. If you have dual sports with you, there are lots of nice gravel roads to explore too.

Beware of the curves leading up out of Ouray. They're marked 10 mph, and at 15 mph I was dragging the pegs on my CBR.

  3. After stopping at the toy store icon_rolleyes.gif(I-80 Truck Stop) in Iowa, we called Steve and Sandy Flatgard. We are prestenly staying at "Camp Flatgard Wildlife Preserve". icon_biggrin.gif

The dogs jump down from the truck and froze!! I'm not sure who was more frightened, the dogs or the cows standing at the fence staring at them. icon_smile.gif

Probably heading toward Wichita on Sunday.

Looks like the last post about Steve and Sandy was in 2007. I am currently sitting on their property and it's 2012 in the latter part of April. There has been some occasional frost and I have had to use the furnace just a little.

Last summer I worked in Cedar Rapids (about 12 miles from the exit to Steve and Sandy's) and mentioned on the forum that I might return this summer. Last year I stayed at Amana RV Campground until they closed and then out on I-80 for a month before heading back south. Anyway, thanks to the forum Steve or Sandy contacted me and offered a place to park on their 52 acre home base. It's a great place. He has a 50 amp site (where I currently am parked) and a 30 amp site. Both are easy access for an HDT and long 5er. They also have some excellent dry camping areas nestled in a treed pasture. Steve is a previous attendee at the HDT rally's in Wichita, and watches the forum. I will be here for another 7 weeks and will someday get outside with the camera and post some photos on Facebook with a link here. Now I have to get ready for work.

  4. I departed Lantana Fl Easter Sunday. Waited till daylight. One of the other campers decided to hook up and pull out at 0 dark thirty (5am). Was worried that someone was borrowing a rig but then saw ther person and recognised him. Good thing was just getting ready to dial the nine one one.

Have stopped in the last rest area before Atlanta. My timing is a bit off from having to stop in Orlando until this morning. I am usually able to do a non stop run and get North of Atlanta before stopping. Will be looking online for a good place to eat between here and there and hopefully when my belly is full the roads will be more empty. Next stop Missouri.

  5. Stopped in Springfield, Mo to spend a few days for an early Christmas with son & his family then on to Mesa.

The park is Stage Stop RV, flat gravel parking lot with about 40 sites, no refinements or obstructions but you could park a 100 ft rig in any of the pull throughs. Right behind Lamberts restaurant, home of the throwed rolls!

Nice to know, Mike. I usually stop at the one in Sikeston. Great food and a lot of it. Sometimes the line waiting is just too much though. Couple parks in Sikeston that would also be accommodating to large rigs. I will have to add them to the list.

  6. Made the trip to Iowa without difficulty, until arrival. My spot was occupied, folks here say "we will work with you" Probably won't be set up till Friday of next week. Not good. Saw Bob at the "last rest area in Missouri" as I was passing by. Stopped for a sandwich a bit later but didn't see them again. Had a great time at the Rally. Hope to be able to do a full week again next year.

Thanks to all who attended, spoke and especially organized it all. Great job.

  7. We are at Camp Horizons (big surprise), getting some work done. It's almost done, hope to exit before the holiday!

PLAN is to head east after visiting friends in Salina to shake down the latest repairs. Will stop at Amana (if only for a brief purchase, tho there's a nice PA park there). We wanna revisit the COE park just off the I-80 near Iowa City -- stopped there overnight on our way to KS, will spend a couple nights so we can explore the area more,,, then onward to Elgin (nice county park) to get schooled on a handy water softener system for RV's (the camp host has it, want to finish a conversation we started last time thru there). Then, hope to rendezvous with baby sis & husband down by Cumberland Falls (Levi Jackson state park, KY),,, if all goes well! Ultimately, back to OH (for Mom) and on to NY & NH for "you know what" with Mark(?) & Henry.

The park in Amana has plenty of room now. Good Sam had a Rally last week and didn't quite fill it but there were quite a few hardy souls here. It was a rainy cool and maybe a bit stormy weekend for them. I spend my weekends in a Sticks and bricks and wonder what I will find when I return on Monday morning sometimes. So far all is well. Heading out this morning for a little exploring of Amana's finally. Getting into the 5 day work week finally. Not used to having to be somewhere 5 times a week. At least there is no call and I am off every weekend.

  8. Headed out on our first long trip- miles and time. Plan on being our 2 months or so. Headed to Vegas with the garage full of furnature for our daughter. Leaving Kansas City in the morning-4-4-2011. First planned stop is Guyman, OK, 2nd night in Gallup,Nm, then on into Vegas. Staying at the Clark County Shooting Range and RV park. Stop by if your in the area- should be there for 3 weeks to a month.

Have breakfast at the Hotel, the El Rancho good steak and eggs back in the 1990's and the "Duke" stayed there while filming many years ago. That's in Gallup, NM

  9. Leaving South Florida sometime this weekend. My brother and his family are bringing the yet unnamed 2001 770 down. They are leaving tonight after work. Three licensed drivers so they could come straight through, but I doubt that my sister in law will want to drive or allow the 17 year old son behind the wheel either. We will see when they arrive. It has been hard waiting, and a little expensive. Hopefully I will be able to start doing some of the work on the truck myself and decrease some of the labor costs that I have recently paid. We will be heading to Orlando for our first stop, north and east of Atlanta for another brief stop to visit relatives and then to Chattanooga. Don't know how long we will be there. Want to go to the top of Look Out Mountain and maybe the cave, have been told the Aquarium is a great spot to visit also. Will have to skip some of the attractions due to time constraints. Lamberts in Sikeston, Mo will be the last recreational stop I think and then to Ottumwa, Ia for a few days before going to Des Moines for the Wing Ding. Wonder how many HDT's will be there? Been a good winter in Florida but I'm ready to head North.
