  1. Back to Deletes.  To Delete EGR really need to have the engine Decompressed as to make them run adequately breathing Dirty Air they Raised from avg 16:1 to 18:1 to do so.  DOC/DPF deletes, biggest issue is the engine Processor remains in a Fault Condition, will affect timing and fuel adjustments, saw similar on early Harley DELPHI Tuners these being a bit more complicated.

Best Options are to leave systems as built, best overall performance and ability to adjust to changing conditions.  With my own it is a 6NZ, only items not are Hard Parts as Rocker Housing and a few odd pieces, None of which affect engine operation.  Is built on a BXS platform where has heavier four bolt rods and a better crankshaft.

  2. My '05 has a Processor that states, 6NZ S/N, NON emissions, nothing to the contrary anywhere on truck where I have photos of Engine as received it, apart.  Is NOTHING to indicate was ever anything EXCEPT a 6NZ so it is good.  Spoke to CAT here, they do a test Plug In to see what engine is Noted, do not give a hoot what shows under the hood as these are now nearly 20 years aged with so many having 'Yard parts' to replace failed and expensive pieces as the Main Rocker arm cover/engine brake system support.  All will work to any engine after the 3406E, ALL S/Ns.  Cat only used a Tape Tag on their engines, primarily as they could build ANY production model off any block after the 06E, their own terminology, Frankenmotors.

Would not ever take into CA, the requirements for there is a MAXIMUM Mileage limit  1000/1 week that can be achieved simply running lower 1/3 of state as NON Emission, and fuel OVER $6/gallon.  I can spend my hard earned cash a lot more readily and economically in other states.

  3. Also depends what state registered in, as in MO is NO emissions equipment inspect on anything bigger than a ton and half Gas.  Know three others with full deletes on 06 and newer units, primarily EGR or Cat IVA, nothing ever stated to them and do NOT enter CA for any reason.  Seems CA has gone full roque fining Out of State Motorcycles Cars and Trucks with engine modifications of ANY type.  Does not stand up in court but have gone as far as towing to impound lots.  Buddy let me know on that.

  4. On personal Equipment not seeing max loading or drive time as do Working Semi trucks most any 16pr tires will do for capacity, just make a note of the tire dates codes, when hit four years start looking to replace as the Elastomeric value of the rubber deteriorates, as does they get hard especially around cording/belting and also fail to eject heat from the carcass.  On full working semis, if the tires meet that criteria of out of time they are replaced as much as low on tread depth.

Trailer prices wil be crashing soon. Wait a year and buy a toy hauler.

Been noting the price drops, and reading the Over Loaded inventories articles.  Several people even noted had not had theirs out over a year and were tired of RV life, two year old trailers.  One would think they would have looked into these first.

Biggest consideration is how are you going to get the Harley up there?

I carry a bike and Jeep. I run the bike up the ramps onto the bed, but it is a little bit interesting. And that is a small adventure bike, not a big cruiser. Other than the weird looks in the cg, no problems whatsoever pulling a TT.Nqcy5cal.jpg

    Ride it on!!

  7. Since 5ver series seem to be at an utmost premium on toy haulers, wife asked if would be better to install a part time bed floor to KW, perhaps purchase a Tongue Type and use flat area to haul the Harley.  Not certain if that is any more viable, Considerations/concerns?  I did weld in a Cat 4 receiver box and have trailer plug ins at rear plate.  Currently in a bandaged battered state of Cubital Tunnel surgery Left elbow.

I did not see mentioned that a day cab will likely be more difficult to register as an RV due to the lack of space for the accomodations needed to qualify for this use.  Perhaps it could be registered as a private truck but I have no experience with this.

My KW Flat top is registered as a Truck, not as a RV, would have had to change the VIN and Title descriptor making it only resalable as a RV as well would have had to add a Box RV section on the frame with a Kitchenette and bigger sleeping quarters.so opted this way.  Plates were expensive, $550 for a year, 48K beyond Local MO Tags so legal in any state.  Base Truck licenses are established by most states by Intended GVW.

  9. The big cheap Magilla these days are the Unibody construct cab/sleepers, welded not riveted, larger roomy interiors to a point, flooded markets of used out there.  HOWEVER check with insurers as the Welded Unibody designs tend to be higher cost on insurance as more difficult to repair than a rivet or huck fastener style cab.

  10. Be asking these questions of your DMV, here you will get opinions, where they will give a definitive answer.  My own truck COULD qualify had I removed the sleeper and added Living Quarters, IE turn into a Class A Motor Coach.  As is only a Tow Vehicle can be licensed only as a Tow Vehicle in MO, weight class, marking Not For Hire etc etc as to making it NON Commercial.

  11. Can somewhat relate as our truck is also a Class 8, where KW shows on the APP and the underwriter balks, took my agent a full two days speaking with the UW to get his attention OFF Class 8 and ON Personal Vehicle NOT FOR HIRE.

  12. We have decided to WAIT on finding our Perfect Toy Hauler.  With some carefully strategized discussion with SWMBO, WE came to a determination with my rapidly failing body parts to get those fixed first then some time this fall take a Cycle tour to Western SD.

Been in Six doctors visits over the last few weeks, have at LEAST another half a dozen coming on, Age is NOT our friend and is tormenting myself rather severely.  Have had sore shoulder regions Long time, now defined time for Cortisone, 8/8, that would be AFTER the surgery to repair Left Arm Cubital Tunnel 7/24 as ring and little fingers fall asleep, most times driving or sleeping annoying to beat the band. That is in the Elbow.  Two Weeks in a splint, then at LEAST one week in a Wrist brace, then get to do the Other Side as BOTH are screwed.   Along with PT to re-evaluate a Torn SI joint on my right Pelvis (Iliac) bone to Sacrum, had been determined in 2018 yet the insurer then would NOT approve the Fusion system of the day being Expensive, "Experimental", "Investigative" where now on Medicare can get it Fused (Pinned), HOWEVER since been over Two Years have to re Check ALL the boxes for the Insurer as did Five Years Ago.  PT, MRI, Steroid Injection, purchase of SI Belt then FINALLY the Fusion Surgical Procedure of possibly hour and a half with three week recovery schedule prior to putting much weight to the area.   SHOULD that Function well, my Neck Surgeon that implanted two Cervical Disc assemblies would consider installing the Third that that same Insurer would NOT approve for a Degenerated disc at C4/5, Another Month, how hard can all this be????

I swear these maladies seem to replicate into other sections of the Human Anatomy Just to be a PITA.  Where my Zetia had ceased functionally decreasing my Triglycerides, I now have a Repatha Self Injector system for Two Weeks medication install Subcutaneously.   Yes does Suck to "Age Graciously", however is better than the alternative.

And PACCAR is the same.  I can't get my speed limiter increased because PACCAR says my tires are only rated for 75 mph with a full legal load.  Hello, we're not commercial.  Doesn't matter.  And as far as I have found, nobody but a PACCAR dealer can get into the computer to change the values.  Some shops say they can, but none have been successful.

But, there are plenty of guys who now can work on later John Deeres.....  Just say'n.

Cummins Provided the PACCAR Engines but refuse to service them in most instances.  Similar to DODGE Cummins in those early years, Cummins would point a owner with trouble to the nearest Dodge RAM Dealer.  Detroit Diesel is a wholly Owned Mercedes Benz/Daimler system these days.

  14. This is where US Market trucks with US Engines get a better grade, HOWEVER, the issues of Obsolescence has flipped its evil head as to the older engines, the early year Electronics to late year model mechanicals and so on.  My 2005 W900 is a cab that is still produced but the interiors are totally different as well in 09 or 10 they began incorporating CAN-BUS systems, ABS, some electro-mechanical functions and the older hardwire simple systems became too costly to keep shelved.   As of Current designs, the KW/Pete PACCAR systems are obsolescing as fast as the engines.   Cummins N-series to the later X series and now the ISX where parts for N14 Series are almost non existent at Cummins NH, NT and NTC are no longer supported at Cummins.  9 Years from Last production Engine in a model line to Obsolescence.  Detroit Diesel DD14 were some of the later MB/Daimler designs, the 50 & 60 series are all but lost to Obsolescence.  CAT stopped On Highway production yet still produces a C15 and C18 for Off Highway even in trucks so there may be considerations to those returning.

Referring back to CAN BUS, ALL manufacturers have adopted that, to which I will not be adding a newer machine due to all the incorporation modules and cross module connections that fail routinely.  See that nearly weekly with Road Equipment as I still drive a Commercial Truck for a contractor here.  Newest Freightliner Trucks have up to 12 modules talking to a Central Control Module, Daimler's impact on over complicating Commercial trucks has pretty well damned them to programmed Scrap Material.  Even my 2012 Harley is Conventionally Wired.  Wife's 2017 Explorer has Nine Modules, Brother's F150 Eleven.  Warranty on ours is over so diagnostics are on me.  Brother's is a 2022, he has had his to the dealer since purchase five times for failed modules including his Tow Brake controller.

  15. Been speaking with a few people that deal with RVs, said to wait, likely this late summer to early fall the Over Loaded bottom is going to collapse on All manner of Fifth Wheel RVs including Toy haulers as the very number up for sale Used and Over produced New are knocking the price column WAY Down already.

Good luck finding one that fits you for a reasonable price.  Seems covid drove prices up.  Folks selling have paid too much and think they are sitting on a gold mine.  We've been looking for a couple years since ours got destroyed by momma nature.  For now, we are limiting our trips and flying or taking the train and staying in 4-5 star hotels.  Overall, for a yearly period, cost has not been outrageous.  I hate flying over places I would normally spend time visiting/enjoying but at this time, it's what we have.  We will continue to shop around but we are being picky.

Can relate to that 'Picky' aspect!!  Thanks

  17. Called the guy on that inspect, said need to call owner as he is getting mixed message from her.  So texted as to Tomorrow and appears is off again.  She stated has another interested party but at a better price, did add the come on we could always better their offer and I said No.  Walked away and left it where it is.  Believe I will fall back lick a few wounds and pause for awhile.  Seems the owners believe are sitting on major money and when do not get responses except as lower bids they play games.  Dealers around here are not open Sundays, been all over the RVT, RV Trader and other sites, just not seeing what we could accept or secondly pay for.

Towel is tossed for now, will continue as we had been just riding to destinations and leave the Big Blue sit it out for now.
