I have no idea what this is. Does anyone know?!. Thanks. I'm a newbie.

    Low voltage on/off switch.

Commonly used to disconnect the 12v batteries from the rest of the RV.  Less commonly used to disconnect individual 12v circuits for devices like a small inverter.

My Kenworth came with that size from the factory. I ordered it with a 16K front axle. Just so you know you will be throwing rocks at the side of your truck now. My truck came from the factory with additional fender flares but It's still chipping the paint on the doors, so I had the entire truck ceramic coated. That seems to help. I drive gravel roads a lot. I suppose if I stayed on the pavement, it wouldn't be such a problem.

Yep, add on fender flares are next, they stick out just a smidge. I'm imagining streams of water coming off those during the next rainstorm too.

They also fill the wheel wells all the way up.  No rubbing anywhere yet and the new wheels are offset enough turning angle is not impacted.

  3. Got new front shoes today.  Went from 11r 22.5 up to 315/80 22.5.

Only a few miles on it so not sure how much flotation we'll gain but much of the rocking and swaying it would do around corners is gone.

I thought that was all air bouncing back and forth between the cab airbags but 80% of it is gone with the wider tire.

  4. On the road since 2015 and I finally did it.  Caught the rear lower corner of the end cap on a fence post and tore it.

Thinking about taking it to ACRV REPAIR CENTER in Port Aransas Texas as they can also respray my flexarmor if/when the end cap has to come off.

Anybody have experience there or have other South Texas repair shop recommendations?

We can get a higher wattage portable inverter generator that uses less gas and is much smaller for under $2000 for a quality model.  Could we just get one of those and hook it up in the generator cubby hole?

This is what we did.  Store a small propane generator in the cubby, take it out and secure under the pin when in use, plumbed directly into the factory propane line, and wired into a new plug on the cubby door.  Effectively tied into the propane and power present as part of the factory gen-prep.

As our solar and batteries are completed we use it less and less.

  6. Converting to oil bath and Timkins in the next couple days because of issues like this.

3,000 miles on the bearings that came with my disc conversion kit and and one of the outer ones is disintegrating.  Can't trust any of them, they all have to be replaced.

Lots of Pro's and Con's back and forth, many old wives tales and anecdotes energetically expressed, but for me it came down to this:

The only time you know your greased bearings and seals are good is when they are in your hands.

Having to re-pack every 6 months and worrying about if the seal blew out when I used the zerk is not fun for me.

Dropped off at dealership.   Was headed there to get some new seats, few miles from there truck lost power and started running rough.  Towed the last few miles in.

Lots of injector and ecu codes on the display.

Diagnostics will get run Tuesday and we'll see what they find.

Looks like we're getting some new spark plugs.  Not cheap but if they last another 500,000 miles I can live with that.

Getting some Silver Legacy seats too.

I don't speak electricity but this sounds to me like it would use all your power leaving nothing for other needs. What am I misunderstanding?

    Linda

It's not light on power.  When plugged into shore power it'll effectively be powered by the Victron chargers.

The boondocking use will be similar to running air conditioners off battery power, yes you can, if all the circumstances are just right.  And I'm building up my trailer to have those circumstances.  Otherwise I'll be firing up the propane generator or propane furnace, which is a perfectly fine plan b.

I find it interesting that the RV version is 24v while the Tiny Home version is 12-48v. If one was always using hook-ups I would think the Tiny Home version might be easier to install. I have to do more research.

I think the versions are just marketing speak.  The first draft from them had a 120v ac converter for the 24v dc strips.  I then clarified I only wanted native 24v and they provided a 24v controller instead.

I suspect you can get whatever combination best fits your use case.

  11. Ok, here's some details to get started.

We're just doing the upstairs bed/bath area for now.

You send them a floor plan, they send back a design.  After a couple tweaks we ordered and it arrived in a couple days.

Area is 120sqft and I've got a roll 106ft long and 9" wide to cut up and lay over that area. Power consumption is listed as 1160W, on a 24v system this comes to about 50amps of power.

We have a native 24v battery bank and specifically got a 24v controller, this allows our toughest use case to have the highest efficiency.

We'll pull a circuit off our Lynx Distributor, add a switch, and go from there.

  12. We ordered a Shield TV summer of 2019 and still use it every day as our primary device.

Remote died early but we just use the nVidia Shield app on our phones.

The Google Amazon spat has a slight impact - any Prime Streaming purchases have to be conducted in a browser and not through an app from the Google Play store.

I'd buy another one over the two free Firesticks I have without hesitation.

Notes for bias - I'll take an android device over Amazon/Apple any day, but do stay out of the Google ecosystem as much as possible.

  13. Those are pretty thin metal, easy to fatigue and crack.

My experience with leaf springs comes from a series of 1st generation IH Scouts, mostly stock, some mildly built up.  I have seen leafs start to drift out of parallel with out the holder, but that was over some rough backcountry roads.   I don't know what the likelihood of rv springs rotating out would be.

For my RV, I'll maintain the clamps in place, easy to pick up from a 4x4 shop and replace broken or worn ones.

  14. Coming from the world of networking myself this is a great idea.

We stayed at a resort near Brownsville that had fiber to the pedestal, easy to plug in and go.  They did only have a media converter instead of a little router which caused a couple small issues but the premise, function, and usability was sound.

There was a clear divide between those of us still working and needing low latency zoom bandwidth and those who were retired and just wanted some bufferable streaming and browsing.

I think that need will grow as more people and families work from the road.

This was a 'resort' type of place and we were only there a few weeks and then on to places with less amenities as we are in penny saving mode.  Now we too are on Starlink with its issues, but if more parks could afford to provide fiber it would be a big win to pull in all the mobile workers.
