2006 Volvo VNL 780 with D12D motor.  Air dryer part number is Wabco 4324210090.  There are two parts to the air compressor discharge line that feeds to the air dryer itself.  The first is metal which circles to the drivers side from the passenger side location of the compressor.  The second piece is rubber (shrouded) hose from a compression fitting on the steel line and connects into the dryer.  I need to find a part number for that hose if anyone has it.

    Carl,

This is a gif of the compressor and hose for my 2020 D13.

If the hose looks the same he numbers are:

    3    990424    1        hose assembly    M12x1.5*6*225

    4    977639    2        nipple    M12X1,5 6MM L

I can add vin's to my customer portal and probably get the #'s for your exact truck.

  2. I've had my HDT for 4 1/2 years move up from a GMC 3500 DRW and never want to go back to pulling a bigger trailer with a 3500.

I use my HDT as a daily driver put 86,000 on it so far. Our HDT is a Volvo VNR 640 mid roof that is @ 23' long, just 3' longer than the dually was. The HDT rides a little stiffer then the dually as a daily driver but with the trailer hooked on it is so much beter then the dually. The trailer hardly move the truck on bridges and bad roads where the dually would bounce all over the place.

We fulltime with the Volvo and DRV Fullhouse.

Lower the millage the better but most of them seem to be 600-900k in miles.

is 1 million overhaul time? With all of them having that millage, I ‘m thinking there due for a big service.

that one 640 you listed had 399,???. and came with 1 year warrenty.

Are you changing out the hard mounted hitch, or is the air ride of the truck sufficient?

You should change the hitch. The heavy truck rearend will beat your trailer to death, you'll need a air ride hitch, I have an ET Junior on mne and you will have to convert the lights for the trailer.

So your rig is only 4’ longer?

    over all length 230.4”

    wheel base is 140”

    Turning circle is 45.1”

Yes, 4' longer then the numbers you posted. If you need the number broke down I can post the spec for the Volvo VNR 640 for you. I have my hitch 6" behind the axle and a 16" drom box that moves my hitch back more then you would have too, if you didn't have them.

These are vnr's 640 single axle trucks on truckpapers. They are a little longer wheelbase than mine, they are 195" mine is 189".  I can put photos of truck on google and link to them if you want.

As you're finding out, each person's requirements, combined with their state's requirements, dictate different answers.  I've seen hatrack's truck and like it, a lot.  But it wouldn't work for us as I'd need commercial license plates/class A/insurance...all because we live in Indiana/Ohio.  I don't know where he's domiciled.

Thank Rick, We are registered in TN. as a MH body style. Our truck is @ 23' long btb. With DRV 64'8" btb.

  7. ryno,

I have a vnr 640 with a  5" sleeper and a 189" wheelbase which is about 12" longer than a dually 4 door and it is fairly easy to get around with as a daily driver. It is only 23" long and turns a lot better then my gmc dually did. What is the wheelbase of the day cabs you are looking at?

  8. Being using mine a little over a month an so far it is doing pretty good. Have the RV package so most of the time we are getting between 30 - 60 mbs. You do need a fairly clear area to not have blockage. We've been to 4 different campground across TN (Crossville, Parkers Crossroads), West Memphis, AR and MS north west at COE had service at all of them.

The other question I have is the picture on the lower right corner of the schematic you attached. Essentially color transition from DOT plug to RV socket, and the reason is?

Forgot to answer this part. I wanted the wiring so everything could be unplugged so I use the extension cables for QCSii cabling and tied everything together. I did the drawing so I wouldn't  forget how I wired it. I did the same wiring diagram for the 12 lights I have on the back for stop, running, turn, markers and backup.

So, using the +12V AUX to power the controller explains one thing, but it raises another questions, what are you using to charge the trailer batteries? What is the year and make of your truck?

    Henry,

I ran a 10 awg wire from battery through a 30 amp auto reset and I installed it on the pin +12 volts switched to isolate from trailer when ignition is off. Truck is a 2020 Volvo VNR 640 straight truck and ordered factory singled.

I was "intrigued" by the power and brake controller Jackalopee wiring one of the individuals did utilizing multiconductor SO cable and all inside the Jackalopee . I like clever ideas and since I had a quantity of the splitters I tried engineering a practical solution. I figured you would need a 5 conductor SO cable and two splitters. So here it goes:

One conductor from the batteries across a breaker to the splitter on top of the +12V SWITCHED

From the same splitter another conductor to the brake controller black wire (+12V power)

One conductor from the GND tab in the upper left corner to the controller white wire (Ground)

One conductor from the  BRAKE CONTROLLER tab to the blue wire in the controller blue wire (braking power)

One conductor from the BRAKE LIGHTS splitter to the controller red wire (brake lights)

It would also require different cable grip for this cable to seal it. Hmmm? Doable and cute, buy I didn't like the same conductor feeding the charging circuit and the brake controller circuit and not having its own circuit breaker. So what do I recommend for the charging circuit.

    Henry,

This the way I wired mine 3 years ago except I toke the brake controller off the blue 12vdc so my controller wasn't powered when the truck is shut off. I only used a 30 amp instead of 40 amp breaker. Drawing of wiring in link.
