  1. Chip, I use a Bullett 9db omnidirectional. Many prebuilt units use the Bullett or other antennas from Ubiquiti. They seem to be the best out there. I originally built the unit to use on our boat and later moved it to the RV. Like yours, it is mounted on the top of the ladder and protrudes above the roof. Yes, the ethernet cables are what allows you to connect to the software initially for set up. After you have it set up, you can make the connections wirelessly via the router. The quality of the antenna will have a lot to do with how well it performs. Our Bullett has been out in the weather for about 10 years and still works great. The cat 5 cables is covered to protect it from UV and weather damage. Chuck

  2. Chip, Sounds like a good set up and the price is reasonable provided it does the job once you have field tested it at different locations. We have a very similar set up that I built and installed myself. We have received wifi signal from as far as 2 miles away that we have been able to verify and others from some distances that we could not verify but could confirm that they were not nearby. BTW, you are not "going on line" to connect to the antenna to find the wifi source or set up for the system. You are simply connecting to the CampPro's built in software wirelessly. You will be able to make this connection any time you are connected directly to the CampPro but not having internet connection. Good luck. Chuck

AT&T is in the process of converting all Directv accounts to AT&T accounts. They are doing 250000 accounts at a time. Once you are converted to AT&T you won't be able to switch your service address. I have a Directv tech at my rig as I type. They sent him out to install new equipment even though I told them all i needed was a service address change. It's a scam as it now requires a new lease and a two year contract. There system does not allow an address change. I won't let the guy leave and he is now in the same damn loop of being transferred to various departments like I have been for the last 6 days. Looks like I'll be filing a complaint with FCC tomorrow.

I'm not sure why you all having such problems. My account was switched over to T&T a long time ago, like at the beginning of the takeover. I changed my service address YESTERDAY. it took a total of 3 minutes once I got through to a person and not the voice prompts. The change was made and done while I stayed on the phone with the rep to confirm. No new contract, my has been out of date for a couple of years, no new equipment, and NO PROBLEM getting it done. So saying it cant be done without a new contract and equipment is just not true. Others here and on other forums are getting it done daily with no problems. Chuck

     CHUCKBEAR,

Have you tried making that east/west change this week?

ANYBODY requesting a service address change will have to go through the 'Move Department' and an order is generated. Within that order is a non-negotiable requirement that they send a technician to your new location to verify the correct installation of your dish and its connection to the receiver. Once that is done, then and only then will they "activate" the new address. They claim a 3 - 5 day response to the move depending on the technician's work load. In one of my 42 conversations I was told they might be able to get to me in eleven days.

So, if you are an old DirecTV customer like me and you call in to do a service address change, they access your account and see that you have not been migrated to the new 'merged' ATT system yet, they will do the migration on the spot. The moment that happens you are sunk.

Like I said in earlier posts, my experience with DirecTV was a 5 minute process and I was happily on my way.  This is the new reality and it ain't pretty.

Just switched from the West Coast feed to our Tampa locals a few weeks ago. Took one call, not on hold long, and in a matter of less than a minute, the change was made. Easy and simple. A had the rep wait on the line until the receiver refreshed and the new locals showed up. It took a matter of several seconds and it was done. Not sure about any "migration" of my account. That has never come up in conversation. Chuck

  5. We have had DirecTV for almost 10 years on our boat and now for 3 years in the RV. We have changed service addresses on a number of occasions but never on a weekly on monthly basis. We usually switch to a New York address when traveling in the east and a Los Angeles address when out west. This gives us the network feeds, which as all we need. In all of my dealing both on the phone and on the website, I have encountered few problems both as DirecTV and now with AT&T. On occasions, their chat service is down on the website but most times, that is all I need to get something done. In those 13 years, we have never encountered the long times and frustrations the OP has encountered. So your new reality and mine don't seem to match up. Chuck

    Biker56,

Have you done the vacation thing and been able to get your recordings to play before? We recently attempted to watch recorded content on our Genie when we ended up in a campsite that was so thick with trees that we could not lock onto a satellite and couldn't.  After a call to DIRECTV/ATT we were told that we could not watch any recordings unless the dish was on a satellite so that it could "authorize" the viewing.

Maybe your dish will still communicate with the sats enough in the vacation mode to allow viewing recorded content but you might want to give them a call so that there are no surprises next winter.

This just isn't true. Let the receiver run through the set up until it starts "searching for satellite". At that time you can press the menu button and go to your DVR recordings. As long as you don't turn the receiver off, you can continue to access the menu. Chuck

Go to the AT&T site and sign up for the Connect Car Plan.  $22 with taxes a month for unlimited data.  Minimum of 23 GB, but I get 80GB per month on it and for some reason it never slowed down for me, even in cities.

To power it up in your RV (if you do not have an ODBII port) you can purchase a 120v adapter here: AC Adapter for AT&T ZTE Mobley   or a 12v adapter: 12v Car Plug Adapter for AT&T ZTE Mobley LTE Hotspot

And now there is a USB adapter for it, which might preclude needing the others, but I don't know if it works.  Is sold by the same guy I bought the 120v model from last year. USB Adapter for AT&T ZTE Mobley OBD2 LTE Wi-Fi Hotspot

The connected car plan (CCP) is the best purchase I have ever made.  No buyer remorse and I have had it a year now.  I wish I could extend the contract as I am afraid it might go away.   We were "on the road" more than 6 months last year.

Yes. I'm a life member of Good Sam and enjoy the experience (except it is now to large). I'm a member of SMART because it it limited to military veterans and enjoy that experience. I joined FMCA because it is limited to MH owners and we thought we might enjoy that experience too. No reason to pay dues to FMCA (other than the included EMS) if they open membership to anyone, just like Good Sam.

    Ray, What is SMART? Chuck

  9. I have used Liquid Rubber many times and spent alot of time looking for instructions for cleaning the roof to assure success. I did not find much comprehensive information on line or on their containers. I called the company and was able to speak to the man that said he invented the product. He was kind enough to spend time with me explaining what works best and when I did a few coaches with his product, I was able to have a successful outcome. I have attempted to pass this along by sharing this info and my own experience to others that have inquired.

There are many topics on this forum that I have contributed to which I have spoken about how to do certain steps for a good outcome. If you PM me I am glad to repeat for you or answer any specific question you may have.

Why would you not want to share that info here? Chuck

  10. We used this on our coach. Mix small batches at a time. If you mix a 5 gallon bucket all at once, it will kick off before you're done. I mixed 2 or 3 gallons at a time. Half a 5 gallon bucket will work if you apply it quick enough. For those that had leftovers, some of the roof did not get enough coating. We did have one issue. Although the roof seems to be sealed fine, a few months after we applied Liquid Rubber, gray splotches started to appear all over the roof. The splotches got larger an darker and eventually covered the entire roof. It looks pretty bad. The manufacturer was no help whatsoever with this problem. I have no idea whether this will have any affect on the product in the long term. Chuck
