It depends on why we're there. One campground we frequent is just a big parking lot with electric and water - and one dump station for 200 sites. Why do we go there? It is very close to family. Another is also a parking lot, but with FHU for the six sites. Why there? It is free (donations accepted) and about a day's drive from our winter base. COE parks are generally our first choice, followed by State parks. City and county campgrounds are often good finds, but require more work to find. We generally avoid commercial campgrounds, but we do have a lifetime Passport America membership, and we've already saved far more than it cost, even with using it only once or twice a year. KOA is pretty far down on the list for us, as we're not interested in swimming pools or miniature golf. On the other hand, we've been to two that were pretty much the only game in town.

If we're moving fairly quickly we're only going to stay one night, so as long as it is fairly quiet we're find. I do keep a log of where we stay each night, and more than once we've found a place that was so nice we decided to go back for a longer stay some other time.

Enough!!! As an experienced senior, I'm disappointed in your attitude.  Color me hurt and unwanted. I'm LEAVING!!!!

Just kidding.  I agree with your post on the polite and helpful dimension.  And, IMO, there are other dimensions that are contributing to our decline. More competition, photo size restrictions, ease of posting photos, ineffective and stale advertisements, and cell phone access.

I agree with Dan.  I would like to have the ability to easily post larger sized photos and other attachments.  We are such a visual society now, that I think this would be an enhancement.  A picture does paint a thousand words, and 100K max is just too small.

I still use this forum.  I read far more than I post.  I have gleaned a lot of wisdom here, and would miss it if the forum would be shut down.

Thank you again to all the moderators and administrators, as well as to all the posters here.  You have blessed me.

  3. I feel your pain.  On Sunday, July 16th, we got slammed by high winds and baseball size hail!  Lost nine windows on the north side of the house.  Will need to replace the roof, gutters, downspouts, metal siding, garage doors, and even the dining room carpet (broken glass).

The RV in the driveway got hit as well.  If I had been able to attach the pictures, you would have seen a hole going through the solar panel AND the AC shroud.  Basically, everything plastic on the roof is toast.  Plus, the J panel on the bottom of the rig got holed in two locations.  My insurance agent thought it would probably be totaled.  I really don't want to give it up, and believe everything can be repaired.

By the way, the RV FlexArmor roof held up great!

  4. The problem with Heng's, Henry, and Liquid Roof is that you still have to caulk all the roof penetrations.  And, that caulking can crack or degrade at any time, leaving you with a roof leak.  That is why I went with RV Roof.com.  I don't ever have to go up on the roof again, because there is no caulking.  It is completely sealed, and extremely tough.  I had mine done at the Denton, TX RVRoof.com, and it cost just slightly more than replacing with a new rubber roof.  It also comes with a lifetime, no leak guarantee.  Fix it once, and fix it right.

  5. Chuck Woodbury, editor of the RV Travel Newsletter, announced late Friday night the passing of long-time RV enthusiast Gary Bunzer.  Gary was known to many as the RV Doctor.  Chuck's announcement can be found at the following link:  https://www.rvtravel.com/gary-944-1/

Gary had been sick with the COVID-19 virus, and hospitalized for quite some time.  He will be missed.

  6. For all you single guys out there, here are some COVID-19 pickup lines to use that I found on the internet:

If COVID-19 doesn't take you out... Can I?

You can't spell virus without U and I.

Baby, do you need toilet paper because I'm your Prince Charmin.

Without you my life is empty as a supermarket shelf.

You can't spell quarantine without "U-R-A-Q-T".

  7. I had this same problem only once in my previous rig.  I put the hangers in backwards, and that seemed to solve the issue.  As best as I could figure it out, the rod was close enough to the back wall, that the clothes would be pressed against the back wall of the closet, thus preventing movement of the hanger.

  8. We are all missing out on a wonderful opportunity.  There is a silver lining with all this social distancing and Stay At Home orders.  Think about it.  If you are anything like me, you enjoy spicy food and baked beans.  The only problem is, people don't enjoy me the day after I have enjoyed spicy food and baked beans.  Which means I must normally deprive myself of enjoying said spicy food and baked beans for the sake of living in harmony with my fellow man.  (You are welcome)  But with all this social distancing and Stay At Home orders, we can all now enjoy massive amounts of spicy food and baked beans with impunity, and the fabric of our society will not be damaged.

Of course, the down side of all of this is Stay At Home really stinks!

  9. Howdy Deb,

I don't know the extent of the damage, but if you are requiring a new roof, especially if insurance will cover it, I would suggest RVFlexArmor.  They have a location in that part of the country:

    Country Camping Corner

    Location:
    101 Oak Grove Rd
    Kings Mountain, NC 28086

    Toll Free Telephone: (833) 422-6809

I traveled all the way from the middle of Kansas to Denton, TX to get mine done by this company.   I am very pleased with the results, and I like the fact that I never need worry about caulking the roof penetrations, or even going up on the roof ever again.  It comes with a no-leak, transferable warranty.  They give free estimates.

For more information on RVFlexArmor (also known as RVRoof.com), I wrote an article in Escapees Magazine on them.  It's in the March/April 2019 edition, starting on page 35.
