There are three2 critically important things to consider when you buy a portable  air compressor. First is the power source that it will operate on, the second is the pressure it can supply, and last is the duty cycle. The smallest compressors do not have an air tank and send the air directly into the tire and that is sufficient if tire inflation is the only purpose of the compressor, but those also tend to take the most time to do the job. If you have an onboard generator for 120V power those compressors are by far quicker than one powered by 12V electricity because they have more power available to operate but if you do not then you will ned one that can work on 12v. Tire size should also be considered as the larger tires require a long duty cycle for a small compressor to fill repeatedly. In my car I carry one that has dual power supplies similar to this one from Amazon, For the RV we carry one that has a small tank and requires 120V power like this one from Amazon. If you do get one with an air tank it will do the job much more quickly but you do need to realize that those have a pressure where they shut off and one where the compressor starts again and the restart pressure needs to be higher than the maximum pressure that you will ever need in your tires. For checking the tire pressures, I suggest a good digital gage like this one.

I found it. Thanks so much!

These folks make some very good points. Keep in mind that a small RV has nearly the same appliances as does a larger one, but you have far less roof to place solar panels on. With a small RV the first step in successful use of solar charging is usually finding ways to minimize power requirements. Another major issue is the cost justification of the entire process. Lead-acid batteries not only take space but they are very heavy so lithium may be needed for both space and weight reasons and those can run your cost up very quickly.

Good points. Thank you and I’m adding to my list.

  3. I’m looking for info on how much solar to put on a 27ft Class C to maintain a comfortable lifestyle while boondocking.

Also, I will be traveling to Yuma in the fall.  Could anyone recommend a good reliable solar installation person?

Thanks in advance for any information you can send my way.

  4. Congrats Maggie!.....we're right behind you. Had the house on the market for 2 months and just got a firm offer last week. Closing date of 5/19 which is much quicker than we anticipated. We will be moving into campground on 5/16 and will reside local until the end of June when I will be done working. Hubby is already retired. Can not wait! We will head to western PA for the summer because my parents are 90 and 88 and we just need to spend some quality time there for once and then headed to GA for winter. Hopefully workamping next summer! Excited to get started!!!

Awesome! It sounds like we are exactly the same place. Enjoy your journey and have fun in PA with your parents.

Is the weather nice in GA in the winter? What area is the best for full-timers?

  5. Things are moving a bit faster than I anticipated but it's working out fine. I thought I would be full-timing in July but my house sold fast and my girls and I are now living in our RV in a local RV park until July 1st. It has actually worked out to our benefit as the work the local RV service department (CW) did on my Blue Ox setup turned out to be quite an ordeal. I am still working with that company to get issues resolved, but that's another story....

I started out with what I thought were the necessary items to keep in the RV, but over the last two weeks I've realized most of the necessary things aren't necessary and take up valuable space. I sold every thing I own and the remains of 50 years of accumulation are now inside a 26ft RV. It's amazing to see the results of the things I thought I needed be eliminated on a daily basis. I still have a ways to go in the next few months. but I can see progress.

This is an exciting part of my journey and it's nice to read where other folks are at in this Class of 2016.

  6.

    Welcome Maggie,

I just retired on Christmas eve and and hot and heavy into the downsizing mode to prep our house for sale in a few months. Listing more stuff on Craigslist daily. We're signed up for the Escapee rally and boot camp in VT in July and expect we'll be living full time in the RV by the time of the rally or a few weeks before.

Tell us about your rig! Got any pics?

    Hi,

I have pictures but haven't figured out how to get them from my phone to this computer. I will work on that one once I retire and have more time. :)

  7. Hi, My name is Maggie and will retire on June 30th, 2016. I bought an RV and now comes the work of getting it ready for full-timing and downsizing (throwing stuff out).

My girls (fur babies Sassy and Abby) and I plan on being full-time as long it remains a fun adventure. Our first journey will be up to Western Washington (son lives in Seattle). I hope to explore the Washington coast and also the area around Port Townsend.

This site has proved to be a valuable resource and I look forward to meeting lots of new people.

    Maggie, Sassy and Abby
