If you're talking about bears and elk, probably right.  However, I've never camped anywhere that wildlife didn't approach at night, especially if you've been eating outside.  I guess it depends on what part of the country you're in.  Coons, possums, rabbits, squirrels, birds, mice, snakes, etc. will always mooch a meal if you give them half a chance.

I have a mother bear and two cubs who routinely use our site to browse and pass thru, even with a 6 foot fence around it.  Part of the reason I got the cameras.

Can you view live from them or only when they record?  Is there a program included to install on your computer where you could view them on a local network without accessing them through the internet?  Thanks.

Good question, i did some research and it seems that local storage option wont be coming to blink.  Someone did mention that Arlo's base station does have local storage capability.  If local network access is impt, I'd look elsewhere.  I've set up a few Foscam cameras in my time, and have had them connect to Blue Iris or other NVR software; the problem I had is those always required some sort of power, which I dont want to run in my current situation.

  3. Ive used a closed circuit system before but set up for cloud recording required opening up ports which isnt easy using hotspot internet.  I currently use 5 blink xt cameras around the site we are parked on:  they are relatively inexpensive, wireless and battery powered, only record when they are triggered, and have free cloud recording, so I can see recordings on my phone anywhere.  They arent the perfect solution, but they meet most of the checkboxes of all the options currently out there.

  4. IMO, Everyone is entitled to react they way they want, as long as laws arent broken.  Of course everyone else is also entitled to judge whatever actions others do (as we all do to some degree on a daily if not minute basis).  If you believe you are right, dont worry about what other people have to say.

I am personally miffed at how sudden and ill planned the closure was, so I totally understand the "burn the house down" approach.  If we had confirmed that he was the source of the closure (ie greed or gross mismanagement), I would have definitely grabbed my pitchfork!

With tomorrow the last day and they have already stopped accepting mail? Not a very ethical way of doing business, in my opinion.

They stopped accepting mail on the 25th.  My understanding is that they were returning to sender at that point, but I'm not sure if the post office was sending them back.  Of course, there was a check that was supposed to arrive around that day, so now it is in a bit of limbo......

FYI, in case not everyone got the email, I got another one from Terri tonight.  At the very least she has been communicative, which gives me hope that the Madison post office will indeed be forwarding mail for 6 months, which helps since I still havent decided which forwarder to go with.

You will need to visit your local post office and fill out a change of address card (hard copy) for each individual.

The on-line process will not work for this type of change of address.

    Thank you!

    Best Regards,

    My Dakota Address

    New Address

I will keep you posted of any further developments

  7. I"ve been hoping the USPS would step in, and at least this is a glimmer of hope that we will have a temporary reprieve.  I haven't chosen a new mail forwarder yet on the hope of this happening, I hate rushing into decisions.  I am hopeful this is true, Terri has been as available as I can imagine one could be under the circumstances, when she probably could have turned tail without a word.  Thanks for the update!

Unless something has changed recently you are correct. I wonder if the USPS has been made aware of this plan?

I have read this as well, but I suppose if it is a business, the only recourse legally would be against the business, but if the business is folded/bankrupt, there isn't anyone to go after?  I did not ask for a reason, since I figured we'd get the whole story at some point online.  But I surmise tax issues, can't be many other reasons to shut down so unexpectedly?

  9. Update from a call with Terri today at around 11AM PST:

    1) The deal to possibly sell the business is not going forward, so 7/31 is the last day

    2) You should have any mail forwarded ASAP.

    3) No mail will be forwarded after 7/31

    4) She recommends Dakota Post

    5) She does not know of a way to do address changes online for licensing and registrations.  She said the next mail forwarder should be able to handle.  My concern with not handling sooner is that if any traffic tickets may be sent via mail, that we won't get them.

    6) Apparently Your Best Address is advertising themselves as recommended even though Terri hasn't given her blessing.  Sounds a bit predatory to me, but if they're a good service, whatever I suppose.

  10. This sucks.  I always wondered what I would do if Terri got sick, if she had a backup plan.  Not quite the scenario, but this is the worst case I suppose.  I have had a mailbox here for several years, and have not heard of this from Terri.  I have a feeling she will NOT be informing her clients directly, and folding up as quietly as possible.  I will also be calling her first thing in the morning!

If any of you know of any thread/fb groups/etc where people are actively chatting about this and perhaps have more information to share, please do let us know where these are, as I'm sure all of us who are in this boat would much appreciate it!

Also, any ideas on who may be the largest/well funded/least "mom n pop" mail forwarder in SD?  If I'm making the switch ,last thing I want to do is have to do this again anytime soon.

    Daveh,

Aren't you a medical person, a nurse?  Suppose a doctor commits a murder, kills his wife in a fit of rage.  Would you suggest that we boycott his medical group, the ten other doctors in his group and all of the medical and clerical employees of the group?  I mean, a doctor should be an ambassador for the sanctity of life, shouldn't he?  Wouldn't you wonder what other shortcuts he might take in his medical practice which might endanger his patients, since he has such a lack of respect for human life?  Surely, he must have caused someone's death in the past.

I understand your rage about what this Anderson guy did.  I understand the desire to make him pay a penalty for his actions.  I certainly agree that he should suffer the limits of the law.  I just don't follow your logic in wanting to penalize his employees, business associates, vendors, etc.  But, I respect your personal choice to spend your money where you will.

If we can hit the company's bottom line (as I suspect this bad publicity already has), he and/or his investors would more likely push to sell the company before letting it go belly up.  Thats my hope at least.  Personally, I wont be buying an Anderson product before that.

  12. I keep some wood in the bed of the truck, but I mostly use our Lynx levelers. They have lasted for several years and 50k miles, with lots of moving in between. I like the Lynx Levelers because they serve another purpose, they work as wheel ramps when i want to get under the truck for maintenance or lift one of the trailer wheels off the ground so I can change the tire.
