This may be old data but some states forbid the stuck-to-the-windshield type of mounting.

I tried using one but it would fall off so I put on a Velcro strap holding it up by my rearview mirror so when it let go at least it wouldn't pull the plug out of the socket as it fell. I finally switched to a sit-on-the-dash bean bag type mount because it was just too irritating to have it keep falling.

Hi Linda. I like the velcro idea. And I have some on hand.

  2. Good suggestions here (at least most of them). Thanks for the help. Just got an email from Rand Mcnally opening a ticket so maybe I'll get a new mount yet. Keep you posted. At least I'm not going anywhere for 4 months.

Please read the below with tongue planted firmly in cheek.

Perhaps you could run a sheet metal screw thru the suction cup and into the windshield, that should hold it.👍

But what if the screw strips out? A toggle bolt?

  4. I was wondering if anyone on here has had any luck removing super glue from a suction cup for a dash cam. My Rand Mcnally started failing to stick to the wind shield and being the inventive genius 🥴🥴 that I am I decided that a dab of super glue would fix the problem. It did not. So if a little does not help how about a lot. Still did not. So now I figure I have probably ruined the suction cup so I called Rand Mcnally to get a new mount. They do not sell them and I don't want to buy an entire new camera outfit. So now when you get done laughing and says 'Dumb ass' how about suggestions for cleaning the suction cup. I am going to try harbor freight for a big suction cup I can try to attach in some fashion or will have to go into engineering mode and build something.

  5. I have had Coachnet for 10 years. I have had the Volvo towed 4 times and have never had any problems. The last tow was 140 miles and I have never seen a bill ever. I think it is $179 a year and I'm thousands of dollars ahead.

When I first got Coachnet I had heard to many bad things about GS being shaky about if they would tow our trucks so I never messed with them and went directly to Coachnet. May be different now. Every time I have called Coachnet the first question they ask is 'Are you in a safe place'? I have never considered anything else since then.

Steve is incredible I can't say enough goods things about him.

I don't know how to get to the resource guide to post it for the escapes. Can you tell me how to do it?

Send a message to Mark Bruss. Last I knew he was the keeper of the resource guide.

  7. I have talked to LEO'S in a few states (never mentioned the length of the smart) and all of them have told me that unless you are doing something blatantly stupid they have enough to do without messing with us. I even parked on a street in a little town once and went to eat. The car was still loaded. When we came out I could see 2 people looking at the truck and they wore uniforms. So I walked down to see them and one had seen the truck and called his buddy over from another part of town to see it. I gave a tour and one even climbed up on the back and sat in the car. They had never seen that done before and were quite impressed.

Another fun trip in the log book.  We got home last evening, grabbed a few things out of the 5er and headed to the house.  As much as we enjoy our outings, coming home to the s/b is still a nice feeling.

But, there was a fly in the ointment....  We ran out of ice cream, so had to eat that last piece of Mobile Sweets fudge we were hoarding.

You have more restraint than we do. We had 3 bags of fudge and it did not make it out of the fairgrounds

  9. I had the camera high on the back of the cab but with the Smart on board I could not see the hitch so I moved it to the front of the hitch. Then I put a second camera on the back of the 5er. Now I'm covered for hitching up and to see behind while towing.

    Howdy rpsinc, Marcel?

OK you folks have got to stop this, I'll soon be to embarrassed to show up at any future events.  I mean how can I retain my reputation as being a "Cob" ( Crabby old bastard ) with folks talking so nice about me.

    Dave

Not to worry Dave. All you have to do is let me know and I'll make it a mission to let everyone know what a grouchy old curmudgeon you really are.  Can't have people talking nice about you.

  11. Well I replaced the sensor and I still have the message on the display. I replaced the wires from the sensor for about 3 feet until it went into big bundles of wire. The one wire had 4 splices so I'm hopeful that after we start driving down the road something will reset and all will be well. I know the rear end is full and as long as the engine does not derate I will live with it for now.
