We researched a new roof "to death" as some might say....that's our nature.  We had hail damage and our insurance was covering the cost of a new roof.

We came "close" to going with Rhino in Yuma, AZ in 2020 but I just didn't have a warm and fuzzy.  We went with Flex Armor at DFW Roof in Denton, TX.....it was the BEST customer service and experience we have had in 20 years of caming!  We stayed at a hotel nearby, which I was petrified of as it was the start of the pandemic-but no problems at all.  DFW Roof sent daily update pics on our roof progress.  We were in and out of there in no time and on our way.

Now a year later we are extremely happy with our choice to go with Flex Armor and DFW Roof.  They work quickly and efficiently.  We also had them install two new fans that we love.  We opted to not replace the skylight over the shower, but to just Flex Armor over it, which was a great decision.

Our new roof is so much quieter than the original roof, it also keeps the RV warmer and cooler.  It has a lifetime warranty and it remains in great shape one year after original install.

Finding a reputible dealer for installation of any major improvement is a big factor that needs to be considered.  Finally we are full timers!

I agree with all of your comments.  My Flex Armor roof was installed in January 2016 and it still looks just like it did 5 years ago.  During a major storm at my home base this past October a 6 inch diameter tree limb from a close by 150 year old oak tree fell from 45' or so.  It was a glancing blow right to the corner of my roof and the only damage was an area of bark residue from the limb which wiped off with a damp cloth.  No damage, no dents, no tear and best of all no leaks or caulking to worry about.  Mine was installed in Madison, AL.

  2. There are definitely benefits to living in an RV full time. 32 hours now since the storm took our electricity away and I'm sitting here drinking a cup of hot coffee watching last night's news on the TV. My built in generator is worth every penny.
The power company told us yesterday it could be 4 days before power is restored since they had a full 1/3 of their customers without power. There was a lot of cleanup going on around here yesterday, cutting trees off of roads, etc. but zero power line maintenance. We have to wait out turn and we are just a little place.
  3. A lot of this won't mean much to those not in this area, but Maplesville is approx 60 miles south of Birmingham, AL just west of I-65. I spent part of the night with a friend a half mile from my home base site.

I'm back at my place and no obvious damage, but an oak limb just missed my 5th. wheel. Lots of limbs down all around. Power is off everywhere I can see. County Road 10 is blocked between Maple Dr. and Hwy 22. Power lines down across Maple Dr at CR 10. Reed Street blocked by tree between Hwy 22 and Maple Dr. Power lines down on Maple Dr between Shanks Dr and Loper Ln. Lines down on Hwy 22 at Shanks Dr.
That is all I have seen. I just fired up my generator and thinking about a cup of coffee.

I maybe shouldn't express my thoughts as my fulltiming days are over but I have to say that one size RV park is not the same as others.

I remember being in some RV parks where there were was maybe 6 ft between the Rv's.  My ceiling fan is on and I sneeze, my window is also open and my sneeze exits the window and into your RV through your open window.  I do not like parks with spaces that close and usually do not stay in them but at times due to convenience I have.

I do not agree with alternating sites but a 25 foot separation would seem better but not all rv parks are built the same.

I for one would not like to be the one making the rules.

I certainly don't want to be responsible for making the rules either.  Those days retired when I did.  I just finished a stint hosting at a COE campground in west central Alabama and no sites are closer than 40'+.  Now I am at my home base site which is in a small town (700 population), on a residential lot sized for two homes and I'm the only one on the site.  My nearest neighbor is at least 300' away.  Masks are the rule in Alabama everywhere, but rarely do I see any masks being used in this rural area except mine when on a food run.

  5. I have been using https://fppf.com/product/total-power/ in every tank of fuel for 14 years in the same 2006 GMC Duramax.  I don't know how long a tank will sit and still be good, but I have had one injector replaced in this time period and 211,000 miles.  Is this longevity due to the additive?  No clue, but it doesn't cost that much and I feel better using it.  It was recommended by a long time diesel user/mechanic when I bought my truck new.

Well Ed, how long did it take?

A little over an hour.  I don't know exactly since I left expecting several hours.  When I got back it was waiting on a restart which I did.  I was expecting several hours since I have a Samsung laptop with 12gb ram, I7, 1 tb hard drive and it took almost 7 hours to update, but that was on much slower internet.

I was amazed at how fast it really did load.

  7. I have a Splendide 2100XC and have been using it full time for 10 years.  My rig has a hamper built in that I use for white items and I use the Splendide for colors.  Since colors for me build up faster than whites when I have a load in the Splendide I run it.  Then run the whites when I have a load.

    Easy.

  8. My primary computer/laptop, Samsung, upgraded a couple of days ago.  The total process took a little over 4 hours.  The d/l wasn't that long, but the install was Loooooooooooooong.  The laptop is an I7 with 12gb ram so it isn't a slow unit.

I also have a Surface Pro 6 and it is not "ready for 2004 yet".

Glad to hear they have a plan, tho.  I worked the entrance at Foscue a few years ago.  Love the area.   Is Anne still running the volunteers?

Anne isn't running the volunteers, but she is still around.  They rotate the ranger''s responsibility occasionally to not burn then out.

  10. My 2006 has been paid for for a long time now and I'm definitely not interested in a new truck.  It has 205,000 on the ODO and is still going strong.  Yes, some normal wear and tear items have been replaced, but all is good and a lot cheaper to maintain than buy a new one for $60,000+.  I get 12 mpg =/- 0.5 towing my 5th wheel and 19'ish non-towing.  It was exactly the same when it was brand new.

Happy Fulltimer here and Merry Christmas to all here.

Standard receivers are being outdated and will no longer work.  I have an HD receiver  with a dish on a portable stand which I understand is not allowed.

I part time in fiver which is never moved.  I too have been with DTV for over 20 years and plan to give it up for streaming. Since AT&T took over, service has gone to the pits, cost is ridiculous, and they are losing channels.

I have been using a Slimline dish on a tripod for over 9 years full time.  I'm glad to know it is not allowed.

  12. What will happen when the "Green Groups" figure out that millions of new electric cars contain batteries, and more than 1 per car,  with lots and lots of foul chemicals that will have to be recycled/disposed of in some manner.  And let's not forget as lead acid batteries charge they produce hydrogen gas which is explosive in the right concentrations.

There is no free ride or quick easy answer.  One problem being solved creates others.

I suspect that some (many?) people don't realize that it's very easy to change Part D plans during the annual open season. Acceptance by the plan you select is automatic and usually occurs within a few days.  In December we receive will our new ID cards.  I think we've changed plans and/or companies almost every year.  If the difference is more than a couple of hundred dollars annually, I'll go through the effort to make the change.  Once you receive your new ID cards, all that needs to be done is take them to your local pharmacy so they can record the new insurance info.

I agree completely.  I have been with the same company since 2012, but different plans about every other year.  It seems that each plan I have had had "rate creep" each year.  When the creep got enough I would change plans (just like you said above).  For 2020 the company doubled my annual cost - Nope!  I just changed companys/plan a few minutes ago.  I will have to get new Rx's for the new company, but would have to do that for the old company also so no big deal.
