Then good quality 16ga is plenty heavy. If you can find real copper rather than copper coated, it is worth the extra money IMO. Heat shrink the connections if you can.

The plan is to use Ancor Marine grade wire. Thank you everyone for the help.

I don't know what truck or type of lights you have but, on my 2005 Peterbilt the rear wire harness the wire is 16.     I think it is more of an isue of voltage drop rather than ampmacity.

The truck is a 2012 Volvo 610. The rear tail lights will be LED lights.

  3. Hi Everyone,

I have a question on what gauge wire to use for the rear tail lights.  I need to make a wire hardness or two and need to know what gauge wire to use. It looks like it could be 18ga wire. The outside diameter of the wire that is on the truck is 0.100" or a little less then 1/8". I will be using a marine grade wire. From the info that I have found,16ga wire outside diameter is 0.125". I want to order the correct wire. That is the main reason for the question.

    All input is welcomed

  4. Hi Folks,

I am trying to figure out what caulk is best for my trailer. I want a caulk for the side of the trailer and not the roof. Has anyone use this brand. Pro Flex RV caulk ? I would like to hear the pro's and con's. What other brand should I look at ?

    All input is welcomed,

  5. Owning and driving It has been a good teacher, and I'm sorry to say it is time to start looking for a new owner.  Even though I feel as safe driving the tractor and fiver as I did when I was younger, I know things have changed.  I just celebrated #77 in July- time for a smaller rig, maybe a van camper or smaller TT I can pull with the PU??  Anyway, the truck and trailer are going to have to go.  I just need to overcome the "maybe tomorrow" attitude and pull the trigger on a for-sale listing."

    Hi Randy,

I understand what you are saying about selling the truck and trailer. My truck as been sitting for some time. I realize it's time for my truck and trailer to go. I have not advertised. Just word of mouth.

  6. Hi Folks,

Just want you guys to know that I am still reading all the info. The question that I do have is the following. I can understand using a cheap cutting mats, but how do you get them between the brake shoe and the drum ? You have a backing plate in the way. I see no opening. What am I missing ?

  7. Hi Folks,

Update (9/9). This is the fault that came up. Instrument cluster, MID 140  PSID 239  FM1 12. So far I have no idea what this fault is. I have followed the video with success but no success with resetting the fault. Not sure why. Any ideas guys ? Also I believe the truck has a new problem. I will start a new thread about that problem.

I should have added this info. Also on the dash was this message. Volvo Link, Hardware Failure, Use Paper Logbook.

Hi Guys,  I am come across this video. It could help other folks with their Volvo. I have watched it several times now. Looks like to be a big help. Will report back later after I go through the whole menu. Wish me luck.

  10. Hi Folks,

I have another rookie question. My question is about dash warning light. I the center of my instrument cluster I have the word " CHECK " show up in yellow. Right now I do not know what I should check. I need some guidance. My truck is a 2012 Volvo 610 with an I shift transmission. Just last week I put in 4 new batteries. At that time everything seemed to be ok. Another question or too. When the truck is running, what should be the voltage be ? How do I find what codes are causing the "CHECK" light to come on.

Thank you for any help or ideas,

Lock the power divider, if your truck has one. Gently accelerate. Be prepared for a very loud bang. No power divider? Get out the sledge hammer and wood block. Place the wood inside the rim, on the lip of the drum. Swing. Swing. Swing. Curse. Swing. Swear to use flexible cutting boards next time parking the truck for extended periods. Swing. Try to move. Curse.

Thank you for the help.  I have a good update. I was able to get the truck to move with the help of a switch on the dash board. I read the truck manual and it says to use only this switch when going straight. I believe the switch locks the left and right wheel together.

  12. Hi Folks,

I need your advice again. I believe that the brake shoes have rusted to the drums. The truck has been sitting for some time ( over an year ). The truck is still  tandem with an I shift transmission. I the rear wheels are free because they are digging into the gravel parking spot. I have tried to move the truck backwards and then forwards. I don't want to do this to much because I don't want to damage the truck. This is a rookie question. Can the other rear axle help move the truck ? If so, how do I do that ? What else do I need to do ?

    All input is welcomed.

Most of the bright red coolant for heavy duty diesel engines is formulated to meet the Cat spec for extended life coolant (Caterpillar EC-1, IIRC).  If you can verify that your truck contains an EC-1-compatible coolant, then the brand is unimportant --any coolant that states that it meets the EC-1 specification will work.

    Hi Guys,

Thank you for your help. The sad thing is that I can not verify that the truck contains an EC-1 coolant. How can someone verify that they have an EC-1 compatible coolant ?  Still learning. Thank you for the replies.

  14. Hello Folks,

I have a 2016 Volvo with a D13 engine. My coolant level is low and I need to top of the level to the proper line on the coolant tank. The engine has the red colored coolant. I did some reading in the resource guide and did not find the answer I was looking for. Is Fleet Guard a good brand to use ? What brand have you used in your truck ?

    Thank you for any help,
