  1. Installed the jackalopee in my 2000 vnl 770 a few months ago.  Very simple and installed in the drivers side jockey also.  Looking at the direct link now due to cheap controller previous owner installed has not been working great.  Will be interested how that install goes for you.

I am in SD also, with a Nationwide RV policy, and after the Herrmann agency rep/agent called around, was told yesterday the VIN in the Nationwide  database is class 8.  She says there seems to be no recourse.  Nationwide will not renew.  I have not heard the final word on a commercial policy yet.

I would be interested to hear more details about your agency since I am searching again.

Well not what I wanted to hear.  We are with Herrmann also. Insurance companies do change underwriting. We had to send in pics when our policy was originally written think they wanted registration, and interior pics showing sleeping and cooking area.  I might be shopping in November when renewal comes up also.

  3. I use to work for Progressive and know claims and underwriters for the company still.  Progressive will only write a HDT as commercial.  If your agent went around this and wrote the policy in most smaller claims they will cover then cancel you.  I also have head of people having to get lawyers because the writing in the policy state it did not cover the vehicle type the policy was written for. I always suggest reading your policy in full with one off rigs like our HDTs.  Progressive only insures class 8’s as commercial.  They will insure you as an individual on the truck under commercial but it’s costly.

Currently in South Dakota written by an agent under Nation wide and have in writing we are a Volvo class 8 registered as a motorhome.  Have read the policy and am comfortable with it.  They required us to insure both Volvo and 5ther in order to do the policy.

  4. Would not use Escapees mail service in SD or FL they give you 2 addresses and anything going to SD of FL address you pay to transfer to Texas before it goes to you. Service has been great otherwise and they let you know this is how it works. If somewhere scans your license all mail is going to the address on license.

Starlink is great if not moving much and staying remote areas. How ever if you move and area has base users there depending on numbers you may or may not get a connection. If you have to rely on internet for work look at mobile must haves and get multiple carriers.

Just wrap it with Teflon tape and then duct tape. It will hold for a while.

That more than likely would have got me off the road.  Never thought of that and have both with me.  Thanks will remember this for next time.

  6. Some good info thanks.  Guess I have not been on this forum enough and did not realize the details you guys get into.

Yes just the top radiator hose is all that will be needed hose and antifreeze.  Running a 2000 Volvo parts are not at every shop and in Albuquerque most things close by 3 on a Saturday and open again Monday.  The hose was off and we were chasing the parts while one of us waited at the truck in hopes of a tow.  No hose options at any parts stores, mobile repairs shops, or the 2 truck stops that offer services.  Hose has just enough bend and is short enough I could not cut the center out and put exhaust or other pipe in the middle to get it down the road.

The one HDT wrecker CoachNet was able to get to return their call on Saturday would not touch it due to being connected to RV.

It did get towed today finally so it's off the highway.  I should have hose and both thermostats to install tomorrow.  Figure not knowing conditions of thermostats and if one stuck that could have blown the hose.  Also figured no antifreeze at that level so now is a good time to change them (just recently bought the truck).

Lesson learned call HDT wreckers from neighboring cities also.  These guys are use to being limited in numbers and will travel an hour.  Our came from Grants, NM about an hour away. The wrecker stated they would have come out Saturday if they were called.  So one might call CoachNet or other services and give them first shot however like stated above they are looking for lowest price.  Get on the phone and call around while you wait, if you find someone call back the service provider and let them know the contact info.

Why worry about a tow, when all you need is a rad hose and some coolant? We've used a taxi to hotshot parts before.

Because this happened Saturday afternoon and the hose is 3 days out.  Like leaving your truck on the side of the road for 4 days?

  8. Blew an upper radiator hose coming out of Albuquerque on Saturday.  After 5 hours CoachNet could not find anyone in the area to tow the Volvo and 43' tow hauler.  I stated the truck will run long enough if disconnect the 5th wheel if needed. I was told the unit was to heavy about 20K each truck an rig for a little over 40k.

Anyone else run into this type of issue?  We ran back to Colorado Springs, got our 1 ton and get the the rig to a campground and are waiting for CoachNet again to get a tow for just the Volvo.

  9. If you don't want to spend the money do not drive the 453. We just bought 452 two months ago and heard all the the hype about the difference. Found it hard to be line so went and drove one that we found close. We now own a 453 lost about 2k turning car so quick however love the car and not concern about the loss.

  10. Thanks for the feedback. The hitch does look like it has been abused and not well maintained.  Hensley agreed it should not effect performance of hitch.  In asked that parts they have available for rebuilding it.

  11. Be lurking around for sometime now and just bought a 2000 VNL 770.  Was setup as a toter when I bought it but have a few concerns.  The Hensley TSLB has obviously had had a king pin dropped on it.  Should I be concern?  I am more than likely going to have to rebuild or lengthen the bed to get our Smart on it so not concern about the cosmetic of the bend.  Also know from Hensley I can get the 2 covers for the air fittings that got crushed,    258207064_1108672419903716_1276408671829431749_n.jpg.f368f3e244945e6a6b1bdc563fe51789.jpg
