.. My buddy can't say he just spent a week skiing in Colorado and it only cost him $75.00 at his time share.  He has to divide out those weekly visits with the $25,000 he originally paid out in the first place.

True.  Your buddy actually spent $25,075 for his first week skiing.

If you have a rubber roof and just use dicor or and eternabond tape then you are only bonding your pipe to the rubber roof membrane.  That membrane is in turn glued down to the wood roofing material below it.  You have in essence now made the glue holding down your rubber roof also need to hold down the weight of the piping as you travel down the road.  It was not designed to do this.  You need to use screws to hold the piping down and then dicor or eternabond to cover the screw penetrations.

Chad has a very good point.

And you will be a year closer to limited mobility or death.   I am so glad we took early retirement.  We couldn't do today (13 years later) what we could do when we first retired.    More money doesn't mean more happiness or ability to enjoy what you have worked so hard to accumulate.   So many friends have died working that "extra year or two" and never got to enjoy anything.

In my case, I'm healthy.  No past health problems.  Height and weight for a 66 year old are within norms.  Grandpa lived to 99 and dad to 92, both died in their sleep and nether had any health problems that prevented them from enjoying life.

On the wife's side, one grand mother lived to 93 and the other to 103.  Her mother is still going strong.  Wife had her female plumbing removed and bladder rehung.

So in our case working a few more years, delaying Social Security checks for a few more years will provide for a bigger retirement nest egg for us.

    Your mileage will vary.

Yup, we are all different.  In two years of full  time travel and several months per year a half dozen more years, I have never even checked to see if the TV works.

I don't understand why some folks would go to the expense of purchasing a rig, hauling it to a vacation camp spot, setting it up and maintaining just so they could watch TV at a different location.

  5. Why wait to retiree?

Because it wasn't until age 63 the I was 100% vested in work's pension plan.

Because if I retired before the wife qualified for Medicare, she would have no insurance.

Because downsizing the house was a part of my retirement financial plan.  Wife cried at the thought so I had to work longer to make up for keeping the house.

Because every year I wait the higher the Social Security payout would be.

Since I generally don't see much gray in a situation, only black and white, I would pull his cassette tank out for him, dump it next to his RV, replace it and then ask if there was anything else I could do for him...….wonder where my new neighbor went?

    Good come back!

Option 3:  Class B+?, 24-26 ft Mercedes Sprinter Diesel.....Do I need a toad, can I pull a toad?  If no toad, will it get old to constantly be unhooking from a spot every time you leave the site to go anywhere?  Not as spacious and would it leave a need for bigger in the future?

Unplug the power cord and go!  Only connect gray/black when tanks are full, dump and then disconnect.

I understand your reluctance; some women resent offers from men to help with various jobs, often because they feel that their abilities and competence to handle any operation "without a man" are being questioned. I've been traveling solo for many years, and rarely need assistance with anything, but I don't take offense at all when a man offers assistance or a suggestion unless the offer is presented in a presumptive, arrogant, know-it-all manner, and/or the man continues to insist on "helping" after his offer has been politely declined with a "Thanks, but I'm good."

RVers are generally friendly people, and I believe that most of them genuinely want to be of use when they offer "guidance" to another RVer, male or female. All one can do is to offer, then move along if it's declined.

That is not how I read Kirk W's post.  I read it as it isn't a good idea to put yourself (a man) in a situation (no supporting witnesses) with an unknown woman.  In today's climate all it would take would be an accusation (from the woman) and the man's life and reputation would be ruined.

any "jobs" where i would not have to talk or interact with people?  am not much of a people person. guess why i like driving?

i have been working hard for 50 years now, and still have eight to go. if i live long enough. but i do not want to work when i retire, it would be time to relax a bit. or at least learn how to slow down and relax.

19 years as a Public servant and another 27 in a service industry I'd have the tendency to agree with Mark Twain, "The more I know about people, the better I like dogs."

Matthew, over 49 years of RV ownership and a ton of RV's (past used RV dealer) I've owned Onan, Kohler, Generac and several other makes of gensets. Based on my experience and research, especially concerning parts availability and service, my own personal preference would be Onan far ahead of Generac. HOWEVER  I currently own a Generac 4700 BECAUSE THATS WHAT WAS IN THE RV WHEN I PURCHASED IT. I have purchased Generac parts easily on E Bay since some smaller RV dealers, as you know, may not stock Generac parts (or service them) as compared to Onan. That being said, mine is performing flawlessly after I replaced the carburetor, a starter solenoid, and a few other minor parts. It "worked" when I bought it, just didn't perform as good as I like.

FWIW I'm friends with a retired RV genset service man who non affectionately calls Generac "Genajunk" based on his like 30 years of service as a genset technician. His opinion has value, him being so experienced. I think they have a bad rep, likely a lot of which is deserved, although I'm sure some may have great luck with them.

BOTTOM LINE HOWEVER If the genset works I WOULD NOT let it be any deal breaker if I liked the rest of the RV. That's exactly what I did when I purchased mine. If mine goes bad and I cant locate parts (but E Bay has a wide selection) and/or I cant make my own repairs as I do typically, I WILL JUST REPLACE IT

If you buy the RV at a price where you figure if you have to spend big bucks later on a replacement genset its still worth it GO FOR IT. Otherwise pass it by ONLY YOU CAN MAKE THAT CHOICE NONE OF US. Sure Generac has a worse reputation (justified or not ???) then some others, but an RV service techs opinion would be more useful to me then lay or less experienced (like mine) opinions

John T   NOT any Generac technician or any other brand professional.

Thank you for the comments.  Plan C is use the Generator space for additional batteries?

You may want to check the number of hours on the Generac, but most of them do perform reasonably well. They are often used in RVs because the cost was significantly lower than for Onan or most others. My issue with that RV is the price since NADA shows $32,100 as average retail for it.

"... asking price of $42,000. "  When I get serious I'll ask what their selling price is and then I'll let them know what my buying price will be.  😀

  12. I would pay off the Jeep and then sale it.  Buy a reliable clunker (if transportation was need for employment).

Sale the house.  Take the equity from the house sale and the money from the Jeep sale to purchase (down payment) on a used RV.  Leave some money in the bank as an "emergency fund".  Then sale the clunker.

Above is my assumption from your OP that you wanted to purchase a motor-home.

if toll roads are so great.

    then stop collecting fuel tax.

stop forcing us to pay a part of our property tax for the roads.

stop using our sales tax for the roads.

stop having the dmv tax us for the roads.

stop collecting "other" taxes for the roads.

how much TAX does a state need to fix the roads, as here in ca they are 20 years behind in road building and repair.

    I agree 100% !!!!!!

Did you know the Feds also tax every truck that leaves a oil refinery?  Feds distribute that money to the states for road sign improvements.

BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!  We crossed the new bridge from Kentucky into Indiana in June and low and behold it is a toll bridge with NO toll booths, just a camera taking pictures and then they send you a bill.  It is all electronic.  Did not see any signs telling you about the toll ( may have not seen it as we were busy watching traffic ).  We have no choice but to drive across as it is the only way to get from Kentucky into Indiana.  Not sure if the bridge going south is toll or not.  New bridge makes the two separate bridges one way traffic.  Probably will try to avoid this area in the future, if that is possible.  There loss.

I got nailed twice on that bridge.  Once on the way to Georgia and again on the way home. All I saw was "Toll Ahead" signage.  I was expecting a toll booth, never saw one and wondered what that was all about.  Two weeks (?) later I got a toll bill in the mail.  Included was a picture of my truck pulling the utility trailer and a second picture of my license plate.  I figured a scam so I check it out on the Internet.  Valid!  A week latter the second invoice for my return to Indiana.  More I think about more believe it is a moral "Scam".

  15. I'm thinking about purchasing a Class B+.  I'm looking at a 2011 Coachmen Concord 220LE.  62,000 miles and asking price of $42,000.  I love the floor plan and storage.  One thing that bothers me is that it has a Generac generator.

Online research leads me to understand that Generac no longer makes RV generators which leads me to ask, "Why?" and "Will repair parts readily available?"

If anyone can give me insight into the plus or minus of a Generac generator, I would greatly appreciate it.

  16. My parents (when dad was alive) wintered in Spring, Florida.  Twice mom took a package to their Post Office, P.O. weighted it and calculated the postage.   Packages arrived in Indiana with "postage due"!

We were building a new house and wife wanted to included our new address with her Christmas Card mailings.  I stopped at the P.O. that is three miles from our new home to ask.  "New Paris, Indiana" we were told.  Christmas cards were mailed.   We moved in and soon discovered that "we" had a mail problem.  "Syracuse" was the correct city!  New Paris Postmaster said the computer made an error.  No apology.
