We had that very experience just 2 days ago and we each got the same call. It started with a computer that asked if I was available and the other asked Pam the same thing. The first time it happened we both declined to speak to them but about 24 hours later it happened again. Mine came in first and so I said yes and shortly a person came on the line. At that point she asked me to verify who I am and I responded that I would only do so after I had verification that she was who she claimed to be. After some stuttering, she agreed to give me the customer number she was calling about. When it was mine I then gave her my birthdate.

    Wow!

Myu phone was in the truck so just got the voice message. I have a 760 phone number but have not been in San Diego area for over 10 years, plus my conscious is clear and I've done nothing that could even remotely get me in trouble.

It specifically mentioned Polk county though!

Some research revealed a jury scam scam was going around. Following quote from Polk county clerk:

    "

    Beware of Jury Scams!

Scammers often use jury service as the target of their scams. They use fraudulent phone calls, emails, or mail to inform people of a failure to appear for jury duty or that they need to verify their signature. Scammers can be very convincing and may pretend to be calling from the Clerk’s office, Sheriff’s office, Judges’ offices, or other official organizations. We NEVER share jurors’ personal information, and our office does not call or email jurors to ask for personal information or any form of payment, especially via a prepaid debit card. If you receive a suspicious call or email, please contact our office.

  2. Hi,

I got a voicemail about a "pending civil complaint" to be filed in Polk Co. Had my Escapees address and phone number.

Pretty sure a scam as the phone numbers don't answer and internet search brings up nothing. Called from an 858 area code and 877 number from message doesn't work.

A pretty good scam though! Lady sounded professional and not your typical scam artists voice. Ended the message with "you have been served" as-if a voicemail is a legal way to subpoena you!

Anyone else get one of these calls?

Careful out there! You know the drill for legal issues, it'll be in the mail so don't get tricked and give out anything on the phone or email!

  3. While I 100% agree it could be bad china made parts the fact the Boondocker was fine for 4 years and THEN the WFCO popped the same way suggests an electrical problem.

Of course it happens when I'm on the road and next stop pretty far from a big city with lots of repair options. I thought my DEKA AGM batteries were on their last legs and getting ready to replace but they are doing all I ask of them using solar to charge.

I also have a high quality  battery charger. Forget brand as it's packed but I could leave that on the batteries for night time and go about business as usual. Any problem with approach?

I can't seem to find a mobile RV tech that specializes in RV electrical in Tucson. Most seemed to only have ~5 years experience. Anyone know of one in Tucson or Yuma where I'll be next? I know a good rv tech where I summer in New Mexico so may have to wait till June to see him.

    Thanks!

  4. 2019 50 amp Airstream Flying Cloud.

After having a Boondocker 65 amp convertor  installed for 4 years the other blew the capacitor. I had a spare converter , WFCO, and swapped them out and the other blew immediately! They exploded popping the tops open and were smoking!

I had an RV electrician over and he and I checked everything we could think of aside from a small section of buried wires on the DC side. The AC input was in perfect working order! I have a high quality Progressive Industries surge protector EMS device and it registered no surges or power spikes of any kind.

It was blowing the breaker but I was able to reset as I didn't know what it was. After second reset I opened the compartment and and the converter was smoking...only damage anywhere is the cap!

At $250 a pop I'm hesitant to install another converter until I can pinpoint exactly what does this and confirm what ever happened before has been fixed by us tightening all the connections.

Frustrating as all systems are 100% fine but obviously not....

Is there some sort of common cause for such a thing? Baffling!

    Thanks!

Unless a water tank drain is installed directly into the tank bottom it cannot be completely drained. A side drain hole requires about ½" above the tank floor.

Yes and if you've been around a lake shore in summer you'll find all the nasties growing in the warmer shallows not the deeper water. Not a perfect analogy but there's less surface exposed to air/full tank water than near empty tank.

We just need a big ol' UV light in the FW tanks! That would solve it! But how do you change the bulb? :D

  6. Since we're still rolling here...

How about the opposite issue of an "empty" tank? No way to get it 100% dry and IME grunge likes damp more than wet; more exposure to air.

As bad as a full tank can get I like my odds of sanitizing 100% better than a dried out gradoaster encrusted tank

This is why i always tend on having a full tank instead of empty or even half empty for too long.

    Am I right?

  7. Hi,

I sanitized and filled 38 gallon tank with fresh filtered water 3 months ago. I'm at an RV park near Yuma with salty water that is not good for drinking so have not dumped or used the water yet. I'm heading to a place with better water in a few weeks and will empty tank before I go and refill with good water.

That said a water main broke here and the water is off for a while and got me to thinking about how long it can be safe. I wont drink or cook but maybe brush teeth, dishes, shower etc.

So far doesn't look or smell bad in any way.

Also I figure it's better to have a full tank than an empty one for extended periods since you can never get 100% dry and easier to flush out any thing with full tank.

Obviously if the water here was better I'd have emptied and filled up but....

    Thanks!

FWIW, I have never talked to a fellow in the mail office.     You assume that we all know the names of everyone who works there.   We don't.   If we have a problem we call the office, and if it should continue, call again and ask for a supervisor.   Since I've never had to ask for a supervisor, and you had already been told to call the office, I'm not sure what your problem is.   BTW, if you were talking to someone on the phone, why didn't you use that number and ask them to transfer you to a supervisor or the business office?

Your assuming a lot and I suggested NONE of what you claim.....That was another person who was referring to your post....

You may want to go back and lecture them....

  9. 21 minutes ago, Kirk W said:

That is not true. I listed the number to call the business office but you seem to have chosen not to use it. (888) 757-2582

    Thanks Kirk....

But if you review your posts you did NOT provide a phone number until now....

See what I mean? This forum is more about "being right" than actually helping. About piling on a member with a concern and a question!

  10. This is about the most useless forum....

Up front I asked if anyone had a contact besides the "guy on the phone"...someone to express my concerns to. Never got an answer to that but flooded with apologetics....

I'll have to remember next time someone has a problem with anything here to chime in and say I have no problems; everything is fine with me. Of course passive aggressively blame them along the way. Would help to deflect blame to a 3rd party based on anecdotal tales....But under no circumstances read the first post and try to help them!

Took me a while but I see how it works here now!

    Thanks for setting me straight!

How are you having your mail forwarded? If by USPS, they are completely unreliable these days. I'm currently tracking a Priority Mail flat that was sent from the Baltimore area to Las Cruces, NM, last week (not an Escapees mailing). USPS sent it the wrong direction in the first place and it has spent the past four days circling in and out of a distribution center in MA. I only use FedEx two-day for Escapees mail forwarding and have never had an issue doing it that way.

    Rob

    Hi,

I sell online for a living and ship ~500 packages a year via USPS 1st Class. I have been for ~8 years now and have lost exactly ZERO! I can't recall any even getting too late.

Fed Ex on the other hand consistently fouls up orders like EVERY TIME with me! Always a day late at least! I think every delivery via Fed EX recently has been on the truck delivery by 9pm sort of message and then driver goes home before all deliveries.

So Fed Ex is not an option for me.....

I still stand by what i stated. Never a problem with Escapees mail service. Now I have with usps. I was staying at an rv park when I got my lithium batteries. Dealer was out of a voltage display he normally gave with every purchase. So he mailed it to me at later date. I have never seen it. It was sent to proper address, showed delivered. Never got there though. That is usps.

Ya know when there's an issue with my truck on one of the forums I participate in I go and check to make sure it doesn't effect me! I don't start defending Toyota or if mine doesn't have the issue discount their complaints or suggest it was something they did wrong.....

The fact I had mail confirmed delivered to Escappes and not included in my forward mail should be cause for concern.

I've been using Escappes for ~ a year and this the first times I had issues aside from the magazines.

Why do you blame Escapees for this when the USPS has your mail? All that the mail room does is to collect your mail and send it out when you direct them to. A truck from the USPS arrives at the mail room dock each morning and unloads. The mail room employees then sort thousands of pieces of mail into the appropriate mail boxes. At the direction of the mail box holder that mail is packaged and sent out to the address supplied by the mail box holder and placed on another truck from the USPS. At that point the mail is back in the control of the USPS and out of the hands of those in the Escapee mail room. If your mail is reported as in transit, then it is with the USPS and there is nothing that Escapee mail room employees can do to trace it. Mail tracking is by the USPS.

Just who is it that you wish to speak to? Over the years there have been many times that I have called to see if a specific item of mail had arrived and never has there been any hesitation on the part of the mail room to look at my mail and tell me exactly what was waiting to be sent to me. Have you asked to speak to a supervisor? If not, do so to let them know what it is that you are having an issue with. If that doesn't satisfy you, call the business office and as to speak to a manager there and tell them what your problem is. If the problem is in the mail room they will help you but if your mail is in the hands of the USPS there is nothing that they can do. If you are dealing with mail tracing, call the USPS and ask to speak to a supervisor or contact your local postmaster.

If everything people are telling you is useless to you, tell us what we could say that would be helpful??

    Hi,

What would be helpful? A phone number I can call that is a person who deals with such problems.....

I'll explain again and perhaps I can make more sense...

Important mail sent to Escapees. Tracking says "delivered" I wait several days and call to have mail forwarded. Agent is less than enthusiastic about helping when I explain I have important mail and would like to confirm it'll be included. They say yes it will but wont check. Forwarded mail arrives and important mail not included....Contact sender they cancel and they expedite it next day which arrives as "package" but UPS next day letter. Can't be scanned but I get delivered notification. Call Escapees they can't confirm it'll be included but probably will, again wont check for me. Get mail forwarded. This morning's tracking says it's headed out of the country....

Magazines missing. Publisher resends twice. Address is 100% correct. All say delivered. None forwarded. Call Escappees and told magazines can be hit or miss and if the address doesn't match (it does per publishers info) it gets quickly tossed as they can't track every magazine that comes in.

So we have at least one piece of mail I can prove was delivered to my correct address at Escapees that was not included in my forwarding..... Magazines can be an issue as per what last person explained to me....

At this point I'm just about out of luck, I needed it today. A person who would have actually checked my mail since I explained the urgent need would have solved all this perhaps.

Sorry guys....Escapees mail serviced really stepped in it this time. IF you guys are telling me they have actually checked you mail before shipping and they refused to do so for me...

Of course you are free to blame me or USPS...BTW I ship ~500 packages a year via USPS, have been for 8 years. So 4000+/-. ZERO lost! Not one! A couple took a few more days but that's pretty danged reliable!

We been with them for ever since we started full timing. Never a problem.

Well I'm glad no one else is having a problem but frankly this information is useless for me!

I'm trying to get past the "guy who answers the phone" and get my concerns addressed. This last lost or delayed will probably cost me over $1000.......

  15. 41 minutes ago, TXiceman said:

Never had an issue with the Escapees mail service.  Any time i have spoken to or emailed them, they have been very helpful and never had any attitude.  The response you get from people on the other end of the phone is often a reflection of your own attitude, so approach them asking for their expert help, not start bad-mouthing them right off the bat.  No saying your attitude may have been bad, but it could be that one or both parties were having a bad day.

    Ken

    Ken,

How do you come up with this? There is nothing in my post to suggest any of this. Where did I "start bad-mouthing them right off the bat".

BTW Said important mail was resent and received by Escapees and forwarded to me..... Now lost in transit....5 days since a tracking update....

So I have lost two VERY important pieces of mail and a half dozen magazines. And who knows what else.... It was explained to me magazines can be a problem and even if addressed properly may be tossed out by Escapees. It was explained to me as "hit and miss" since we don't have the actual shipping label to determine what's going on.

Not looking good in my book and I'll be researching other mail box options for important mail.

If you mean the January issue, the following is copied from the emailed Escapees Club News.

    Thanks Kirk,

No I'm referring to a different magazine, Guitar Player. I have received zero issues and their dashboard shows delivered 2 or 3 times for certain issues! So 7 between the span of the subscription have not arrived or been lost or destroyed...

I did receive an Escapees magazine a few weeks back in a forwarding so I imagine not any setting on my part..

    Thanks!

  17. Hi,

I'm having trouble with my mail service. I subscribe to a magazine and have triple checked the address is correct. They have resent the magazines twice and the online dashbord for the magazine says delivered...yet...I am receiving no magazines..... I asked if magazines are being thrown out but they said no and I have received several otherss in the past...

Also...A VERY important piece of mail went missing after again showing delivered but not included with my forwarded mail. They wouldn't look in my file to confirm that maybe it was left behind but refused to do so... That piece has been duplicated and expedited by shipper and arrived at SKPs as I got notice but hasn't scanned yet which seems odd to me. It says "package" on the tracking but it should be an envelope so not sure how actually sent. SO I'm waiting for something so they can actually send it to me...

Also the last couple times I called I got an ear full of attitude... I didn't understand and it was NOT explained to me I have to accept scanned mail. Operator had zero patience in trying to explain this to me and how I can get my mail delivered.

So far this service has been severely lacking.... Is there someone I can speak to that has a less attitude and can explain why there's a problem?

    Thanks

If the incoming water is high in salt the softener will not remove it, I don't know of anyone that drinks Yuma water from the tap.

After you use a water softener for awhile the scale buildup in the water heater tank will come lose and and clean out of the system if you remove the drain plug and open up the high pressure relief valve the water will rush out and take most of the lime with it.

We only use our RO system for drinking and cooking, we have a separate faucet at the kitchen sink.

There are 3 things we would without in our water system 1. sediment filter before the softener 2. water softener 3. RO system.

When we are away from Yuma our water out of the tap has no salt taste to it.

    Denny

Drained the WH as above and water came out crystal clear!

Drain had a slight leak and pressure relief had some mineral build up but nothing alarming. Cleaned and teflon taped it.

It's funny as I check it every month or two for critters and never noticed any build ups... could be from this spot and just a 3 week build up!

I'm in Tacna and have stayed in Yuma numerous times. Yuma water is no where near as hard as here. My sediment, charcoal and Berkey make it just fine in Yuma but here the water is simply beyond! You should see the ground with mineral deposits all over!

    Thanks!

The flushing tool is a tube that goes on the end of your white water hose to put through the drain hole in the water heater tank and you can flush out a great deal of white mineral deposits. It is bent so that you can spray it upward and not just flush water through it.

For sanitizing instructions, just visit this link and it will give directions.

    Cool!

    Thanks!

I read elsewhere that guys will use a vinegar flush of the system. I haven't read the details yet.

The water softener you bought works by ion exchange.  The resin in the softener is initially saturated with sodium ions.  Magnesium, calcium and other mineral ions are removed and replaced by the sodium; hence, the salty taste of the treated water.

There really is not a good alternative solution for a convenient and cost effective system.  The next step would be a way more costly approach such as reverse osmosis.

RO can't keep up with demands other than drinking water can it? RO usually relies upon a reservoir and fills in the back ground.

I'm considering a small sink mount RO unit just for drinking.

    Thanks!

  21. 16 minutes ago, TXiceman said:

After the proper and complete rinse, what you may taste is some sodium....not salt or sodium chloride.  The amount of sodium left in the softener will not be sufficient to harm anyone unless you are on a NO SODIUM diet.

    People also ask

How does the water softener system work?

Is it OK to drink water from a water softener?

Softened water is considered safe to drink in the majority of cases. ... But the softener salt is only used to soften the resin that acts on the water – no salt gets into the water supply itself. In softened water, the sodium level increases. Sodium is not the same as salt (sodium chloride).

MY mom had soft water in her house forever so I know the taste it has....I don't mind it but this is different so far.

I chatted with another resident there and they said the park's water is very salty. So perhaps an oddity in that the Mg/Ca is stripped off but obviously not the NaCl and just adding more sodium doesn't help things!

    Thanks!

Most recommend replacing the anode annually. I drain ours and use a flushing tool to remove calcium buildup followed by sanitizing the entire potable water system each spring. Just part of the annual maintenance process.

    Thanks Kirk!

    I've neglected the water heater!

How does a flushing tool work? Is it an actual tool or way to hook up/back flush?

Time to drag out the manual!
