  1. JimK - that was where I was thinking.  I was a 50 year member just for my car.  When I first started out, my state did not offer the RV add on.  When the TX AAA fumbled around with my renewal I gave up even that since the car was covered with the RV policy.  Thinking I need to see about going back since RV coverage has expanded with different AAA states.

  2. Kirk W.  Exactly. My membership number starts the same.  No clue if the phone number to call is the same for those who bought thru FMCA.  The specificity of the first recording makes me think the call routing could be different.  Similar to my health insurance with a major company has a phone contact number that goes to someone who knows as they answer  that my policy is thru Dartmouth and what that could mean for coverage.

  3. So very disappointed with the service I had.  And I called back the next week to talk to Customer Service.  Weeks have passed with no one getting back to me about what happened as they said they would.

Small town in PA I had a problem with the car.  Me and the dog  on a Saturday just past noon and it was already below freezing.  Called in and the opening recording was telling me to be ready with my number that would start with FM.  When the person came on the line I told her I guess FM was for the policies thru FMCA but I was thru Escapees.  She looked it up and started by telling me my car was not covered - which of course it is.  Transferred me to someone who did know it was covered and took all the information and told me the tow company would be in touch.    I got 3 automated texts over the next half hour from the Roadside people - apparently automated - saying they were working on it but didn't have anyone yet.  When they stopped I thought that meant they had someone and waited to hear from the tow company.  Nothing happened.    Called Roadside assitance again to see what was up.  They assured me they had found a tow company.  They needed to contact the tow themselves to get a status and would call me back in about 20 minutes.  That didn't happen either.  At the 2 hour mark I called again.  That person said there were no notes about anyone coming nor any need to call me back.  She said I needed to understand that it could be hard to find a tow company that would come out on the week end and it could be Monday before they found anyone.  I asked if they had intended to just let the dog and I sit there waiting till Monday - why had no one called.  She said I didn't have to stay with the car, I could just leave the keys - really bad idea.  Then she wanted to know what time I would be back to my car on Monday so they would know when to send a tow truck.  I told her I still didn't know how I was going to get me and my dog back to my RV let alone how I would get back I would have to call when I figured that out.  Mind you there are decent sized towns within 10 miles in at least 2 directions.  The state capital is 35 miles away.  We weren't talking something special to move my RV.  We weren't talking about me being out in the wilderness. Just a little car in town.  And to top it off on Monday morning a local tow came and he told me he had not gotten a call on Saturday.  Icing on the cake when I talked to Roadside assistance to set up Monday - they had set up the tow to go someplace I never heard of instead of the place 3 miles down the road I specified.

Sorry to be so long but really bent out of shape and don't wish this on anyone else.  I try to make sure I am covered to be safe while FT and travelling alone.  To be abandoned by the roadside service is not acceptable. To not stay in touch with me about the whole thing while I am stuck in the cold - also not acceptable.  I thought a company working with Escapees would be a good choice - one able to handle the RV and places I would go.  I will be looking for other options.

  4. Normally my return to Bushnell (my home base) for the 6 month doctor visits is no big deal.  But they are not presently taking reservations unless I am just passing thru.  Seems half the park will be shut down.  What is really odd to me (unless I have just missed it altogether) is that there was no word of this in the normal course of information from Escapees.  In fact nothing on the Escapees web page or even the Sumbter Oaks web page at this time.  I tried to do the online reservation and it said there was a technical problem so I called the park to make a reservation.  That is how I found out.  They are trying to figure out what space they will have after they move the folks who normally just stay there all the time, then they will talk about reservations again.

  5. If you are trying for a FL state park, I believe the booking opens at 8am not midnight.  And you have to hit the final ENter as their clock hits 8.  Are you checking the night before to find out which sites are not already boogked (by folks who are arriving on an earlier date but staying longer)?  Even with that I know there were times and certain high demand parks that my "click" was just not as fast as someone else's "click".  Good luck

  6. In mine there is a "plunger" button that the door pushes in when closed.  When it worked loose it caused problems.  You might see if that is loose or if you can tell by pushing it in by hand, if it works right. Perhaps it isn't being fully engaged by the door closing.  Sorry - all I know.

  7. You folks using recreation.gov - how do you drill down to COE campgrounds?  The old version recreation.gov had a filter for agency but on the "new" one I didn't find that filter and in fact it seemed they made it harder to even tell when you open a campground what  agency was running it.

I just wish they would spend more on park maintenance backlogs and hold off on new acquisitions until they can at least get close to dealing with that.

But your article says "Still, the change is only in the name. Funding for National Parks is no different than the other National Park Service units. Since the Gorge was already facilitated by the park service, the primary changes will be to signage, brochures and the website."

Doesn't seem to be about acquistion or more money.

Hope your days seems better soon.

  9. I am thrilled when people (and especially children) ask the question rather than just assume they can approach the dog.  It obviously gives the option to say No.  Some dogs do enjoy meeting people.  Enjoy getting the attention.  For the more social dogs it is a pleasure to let them enjoy the attention of courteous people of all ages. Since my dog is out in public with me, interactions of all types are part of life.  For me as well as my dog.

  10. Roadtrek1- I have a Mobile eye in my RV and it does many things but not recording. Mine is 2 years old so perhaps that has been added.  What mine does is "read" signs to check if I am over the speed limit, notices if I am wandering out of my lane, getting to close to the car ahead.  At slower speeds it also watches for pedestrians crossing my path, etc.  Especially travelling alone, I appreciate the extra set of "eyes".

  11. My 2 cents - the web page is NOT always correct.  I start there to see which ones are listed as allowing General Delivery.  But I still call to check, having found some listed as allowing this, that really do not. I always tell them I am trying to set up a one time mail drop for when I pass thru.

I have found that the 30 days they will hold it is not universal either. Some it is 15 days.

  12. I ended up going to the Villages to get my paperwork done. Took in my PA papers to be redone.  Will, Medical POA, living will.  Living will she said was already worded fine.  The other formss she did up for me based on the copies I brought her.  I  know I was way less than $500 but don't have anything complicated.  I just wasn't finding someone I wanted around Bushnell.  I first tried to use someone in Leesburg but they cancelled and then the assistant wasn't getting back with me about a new appointment after my calls.  Another person at the Escapee's campground had just used Susan Dean and liked her, so I went there.
