  1. Class of 2009 here! We just signed for an apartment near our family in Missouri and plan to leave the RV year round at the park in Texas we have been staying for awhile. We'll sell or trade-in the truck and move back and forth in a new SUV. We'll spend the majority of the year in Texas. A couple of questions:

Insurance - we will keep paying for insurance since the RV still has some value. Does that sound right?

Registration/Inspection - the RV will never be towed by us again and we plan on getting skirting, etc. to make the RV virtually unmovable. What are my options with regards to yearly registrations and inspections?

TIA for any assistance as we journey on to the next phase of our life!

    Bob & Jo

  2. Interesting factoid: AT&T DirecTV does not like mobile RV accounts and prefers porn to Hallmark!

Do you realize that if you live in an RV you can add porn to your DirecTV viewing but not Hallmark. You can add Playboy and Penthouse but not the Movies Extra Pack that includes Hallmark Drama and Hallmark Movies and Mysteries. DirecTV says its because we have a mobile account. That’s funny because we’ve had a mobile account since Sept 2009.

That was when we got a waiver for DNS (Distant Network Services) which you can only get if you live in an RV. We got the waiver reauthorized in 2019 so they knew we were still in an RV. We’ve had the Movies Extra Pack for years and it suddenly went away in August 2020 since they said we were now a mobile account. I spent many hours on the phone trying to add it back and it comes down to we can’t have the Movies Extra Pack with a mobile account.

But I could have added Penthouse during the call. ATT DirecTV prefers porn to Hallmark and does not like mobile RV accounts!!

  3. Not sure if this is the right thread, mods can move if necessary.

We have a Winegard Travl'r and DirecTV Genie in our living room in our 2015 Lifestyle LS38RS. We listen to sound with a Panasonic Blu-ray home theater system. The blu-ray player that has all the speaker connections is starting to make a horrible noise and I know it's nearing the end. First looked at repairing it since that means all the connections stay the same. As expected repairing it became an issue. Generally cheaper to buy new these days plus local repair guy said hard to get parts anyway. He also mentioned what I am finding out to be true, that hardly makes these anymore.

Has anybody else run into this problem?

    Thanks,

The report that DNS is dead turns out to be fake news.   Rec'd this today......

We recently notified you that Congress had decided not to renew key provisions of the Satellite Television Extension and Localism Act Reauthorization (STELAR) and that as a result, you would have lost access to out-of-market broadcast networks ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, and The CW starting June 1, 2020.

We’re happy to let you know that DIRECTV will now continue to provide you with access to broadcast networks CBS, FOX, and NBC as part of your Mobile Network Package. Unfortunately, access to ABC and The CW networks are no longer part of your Mobile Network Package.

In recognition of any inconvenience to you, we are adjusting the price of your Mobile Network Package from $15 to $11, effective June 1, 2020. Please note this new price (and any related credits) will appear within 1 to 2 billing cycles.

If you have any questions, please call us at 866.595.9429.

Got same email, beat me to it

I have heard from everyone that you can't call in to DirectTV and have service address changed and get it done easily over the phone.  Which is what I just did, in anticipation of no 'locals' any longer.  Took a couple of transfers to get me to the billing area, but once I explained what I wanted, he said to hang on while he did it, looked up and the TV was searching for program guide and voila, there they were.  He again verified the billing address and it was done.   I was amazed to say the least.  Once in a while something goes the way it should!

Took me 6 hours over a couple days, about 8 reps and still had to have the problem escalated to the next level. Couple days later the channels were changed. Hope future changes are like yours and not ours.

I have been able to change my service address over the phone for some time now. AT&T acts like buying DirecTV was a mistake and they hate RV mobile accounts more. When DNS goes away it will be interesting if they have the same tune. Our service address is KCMO now and we are in Texas in an area where OTA does not bring in network channels.

Which number did you call? Did you get forwarded to a specific department?Reason I ask is that I have spent 2 hours on the phone trying to change service address in preparation for June 1st. We cannot get networks OTA in our current location.

I tried to change my service address with DTV in February, something i've done many times before.  This time they told me that they'd have to schedule an appointment and a technician would have to oversee the change.  When I challenged that, they gave me some argument that the FCC had changed the rules.  Anyone had their service address changed over the phone lately?

As a Direct customer for years with DNS and before that with Dish until they got caught with their hand in the cookie jar and had their DNS taken away by the FCC, I could care less about locals, not going to call to change locals when I move. The DNS is great because if on the west coast you can see programing from the east coast at reasonable times. And for sports, it hard to beat. If I can get the locals on OTA ok, but sure won't spend but a couple of moments trying to tune them in. And unless something drastic happens we will just stay with Direct.

Yeah DNS is great but also gone on DirecTV on June 1st.

The FCC accepts the 210 DMA designations that Nielsen uses for their audience ratings services. Nielsen doesn't make the laws or regulations of course, they just define the markets the FCC uses to implement the laws and regulations. Dish carries the locals in all 210 markets, while DTV only carries 198 markets despite promising the FCC years ago they would carry all of them.

    (emphasis added)

And in order to offer DNS DirecTV just has to offer locals in 12 more markets. Yet they send out notices blaming the law.

I have never has DirecTv DNS in the 3 years I have been with them. I am a full timer and move a lot. I just call them, give them my location and have my locals changed. Sometimes it’s easy, sometimes it takes some explaining to the CSR that I am in a motorhome.

We have DNS but our friends do not. The last three times they have tried to change locals they have been denied. They have just given up. We are currently in a place that does not get local networks, can get a couple secondary channels that just carry reruns from the 70s, so DNS really comes in handy. WiFi also sucks so can't stream.

  11. Just got an email today from DirecTV.

Regrettably, we must inform you of a new law that affects your programming. Until recently, the Satellite Television Extension and Localism Act Reauthorization (STELAR) Act authorized DIRECTV to provide you access to your out-of-market broadcast networks—ABC, CBS, NBC, CW, and/or FOX. Unfortunately, Congress has decided to not renew key provisions of this law. As a result, on June 1, 2020, we no longer will be able to provide you access to these out-of-market channels. These are not available anywhere else. However, this change does not affect access to your existing local network stations.

If you’re paying for these channels, you’ll receive a credit within 1-2 billing cycles for this programming change.

If you have any questions, please call us at 866.595.9429.

    Thank you for choosing DIRECTV.
