  2. there was a managment shuffle at SCC about the first of Feb. Adam Mayfield is in charge of the Travelers now. Unfortunately any info that Matt had has been lost. I know, dumb move on SCCs part. But it was a software glitch that dumped everything Matt had when he took his new position.

    Adam's number 770 255 1284

    Hope this helps

  3. Mike, thanks for the app. As far as follow up goes, not sure. You could call and speak with Matt Readon. He is the Travelers Supervisor.

David, We go where the work is and where the contracts are signed. That being said SCC will try and work with your needs. I have found that those employees that prove their worth to the Co (go work ethic, self starters, get er done attitude) get their needs met faster. If someone whines and bitches constantly, they ususally get tthe oportunity to be successful working for someone else.

  4. Mike, it looks like SCC is hiring for Nolfork, Richmond, and the DC area.

John, I don't think we have anything in the Puget sound area. I'm think I'm the "out West" project right now Eastern WA, N. Idaho, SW OR.

If any of you are interested click on the SCC web site and go to careers, the locations, then fill out the app. the application is designed to see if you are good fit for the job or if the jobs a good fit for you. once its filled out it goes into a data base that all the supervisors can access.

  5. Looks like SCFS (Southern Cross Field Services) has a pretty big territory. There was a folder stuck in the door today, that our local Natural gas provider is doing some meter upgrades. They're using SCFS, to install equipment from Itron Inc. Small world.

how cool! this contract is SCC's first in Canada. Its been a fast learning curve from what I understand. The "meter swap projects" are different that the leak survey that I do. When I found out we had a project "up North" I immediately volunteered. But there was other work they needed me on here in the States. Oh well, maybe next year.

By the way, Grand Praire is a beautiful area.

  6. the truth is recruiters will tell you anything to get you started...but none of it is true. it is actually a part time job. they nickel and dime, chisel and snip. no field support whatsoever, a down day equals no pay. minimum wage isn't enough to be a slave to billable hours.

    bottom line.....not a real job.

Interesting 1st post. I'd say you're either a troll or a disgruntled ex employee. I'm not a recruiter. I've said before, this is a job, not retirement. You will sweat, get dirty,

get wet and get tired. You'll be asked to go where the work is. That may not be where you want to go. Too Bad. SCC is worked based on client demand. When the client decides to sign the contract, we go to work. You are guaranteed 24 minimum hrs plus weekly per diem if the weather washes you out all week. But this is an hourly position not salary. If you can't work, or won't work, you won't get paid. As far as support goes my experience over the last 3 1/2 yrs has been the opposite. I have always been supported. From the project Mjr on up to the Pres of daily operations or the Senior VP. Any one of them is only a phone call away, and that's their personal cell #'s. this job is not for everyone. But for us it works. we've been places we probably wouldn't have gone to, met people we might have missed, and seen some wonderful sunsets. all while getting paid.

  8. can anyone tell me more about the traveling survey technetion job with Southern Cross Corp. I have sent in an application already about a week ago. How long does it take to find out about the job. Is there anyone to contact to get an interview and speed up the process. I am very interested in doing it full time. thanks

    i

I have been with Southern Cross for 2 1/2 yrs. It can be challenging at times but it is rewarding. Contact Lidice. she is the head recruiter. you may also talk to Sherman Carlton. but he will more than likely refer you to Lidice.

this thread is getting old and quite cumbersome. I had thought of doing an update but there is so much info here I hated to start over.

the jobs are there. We need reliable help

  9. Sorry Susan, I never got a notification of your last two posts. I think Jwalker answered you questions pretty straight up. Sorry that it won't work out like you planned. I had a really busy yr with Southern Cross. I walked 1530 miles in 2010. This yr has been a little slower start partly due to vehicle breakdowns and projects spread across the country. Oklahoma to Tucson to Pueblo to Alabama. see ya down the road. I'll be the one walking down the side of the road!

  10. I trained a husband/wife team this summer in SLC. All though it is unusual for SC to hire teams they do on occasion. You must both have a vehicle and be willing to work seperately.

Most often H/W teams think they can work side by side and it seldom works that way. As someone said earlier, the explosion in Cal this year has caused a lot of stir in the Nat Gas Industry. Personally, I have been working full time since I started in April of 2009.

  11. your a sweet heart Bob, thanks for all the info you give all of us that are interested in this type of work.....for this company. I have made calls but no reply, I will not give up though..somebody's gotta need me for something hahahahaha Susan.

Hey Bob, thanks for posting the info on the new project. Good friend of mine will be one of the managers on the South Carolina work.

on a side note Sherman went in for a few test last week, and ended up having a couple of stints put in. all is well and he is expected back to work in a week or so.

We have a 6 man team working in Salt Lake City this summer and have trained 4 new techs so far for other projects around the country.

Any one still interested should contact Rich Wienert (404-569-6293)if you can't get through to Kelcy.

they responded to me rapidly. Heath on the other hand was terrible. recruiter never would return calls or emails When you talk to Southern Cross talk to Kelcy. she is the recruiter. she has all the info.If you are willing to relocate(travel) there are lots of jobs right now. the spring is when all the new contracts start. so get in and get trained . they have treated me well. tell her Barney Fife sent you.

  14. No, there is no contract with SCC. you are an employee only. The only thing you need to do is return the equipment that SCC supplies. The thing is, this is a temporary situation. All Gas utilities have work that must be done in a calender yr. as mandated by the US gov. Weather delays and extra work added by the local utility co have created a panic situation. Once 12/31 comes the push is over and its back to 40 hrs. Tough it out and take the money. its only a couple more weeks. You knew it was a job when you hired on.

    Barney

  15. Doggirl, from what I hear, this end of the season push is normal. All the utility companys have to get their regulatory work done by the end of the year. Nov gets here and the panic begins, I'm doing 50 hr wks in Baltimore and buddies in GA were doing 6 day weeks for a while. this to will end. take the overtime while you can.

  16. Hey Barnstormers... do you have a report for us as to how it's going with SCC?

Hi All, sorry I don't check in here all that often. The work with Southern Cross has been going well. After my initial training they placed me in SE Georgia mid May. Nice quiet rural Georgia. Hotter than Hades tho. I figured we would be there through the summer as I had the whole district to do. Last week of June they called and said they had my next assignment. Great says I, should be done here in a couple o'months. No says they "you need to be in BALTIMORE by July 5!"

So we are now in the DC/Baltimore area. Its been interesting. We've enjoyed being here to see the the sites of DC and get paid for it. The Baltimore Gas Co people have been wonderful to work with. Southern Cross has really followed through with all they promised. All in all its working out OK. Its not retirement. It is a job. you will sweat. you will get tired. you will see and experience things not on the tourist maps. You will get paid to travel and live somewhere else.

it serves our purpose for now.

  17. I have hired on with Southern Cross as of April 13th. I m enroute to Norcross GA as I speak. Training begins April 21. I applied to both Southern Cross and Heath Ind. after Filling out apps and sending them in I contacted both company reps and followed up as instructed. Heath told me that for the first time in a long time, they had no openings for travelers. Southern Cross worked with my time frame and was straight forward during the whole process. if you're still interested contact Kelcy Faulk and tell her Barney Fife reccomended her. Barney
