It crapped out again. I finally understood I don't have a traditional fuel pump but a gravity fed one. I don't think it is working properly or I've got a kink in the line somewhere that is feeding it but I can't see past where it goes into the frame.

Either way I'm ordering a new one and will replace it.

That's exactly what it was. I crawled under there to look at the pump and to see where the line was and was wiggling it around. Hit the starter and immediately smelled gas.

Thanks again. Didn't grow up around engines but prefer doing my own work so I'm bumbling my way through all this.

Thanks to both of you for the response. I had the sudden inspiration (duh) to check and see if the old owner had the manual in the giant ream of papers and he did. Found the fuel pump and while I had the line disconnected it finally started getting fuel. No idea what the issue was but it's running. Definitely going to replace the fuel pump.

unfortunately nothing at the service manual location for my model, or even the 5k at all. Working with 25 year old stuff is difficult.

This is definitely a big help just to find the manual. I've spent the past 3 hours online struggling with this and every search for manuals has left me with about 1000 popups from scam sites.

is there a way to install a fuel pump on an older model that doesn't have one?

Struggling to get my 96 Marquis 5000 running. I know the model I own does not have a fuel pump. I disconnected the fuel line from the fuel filter and it is bone dry, not sucking gas. I have a full tank but I can't seem to get the line to suck gas to start the thing.

Last year I took it to Cummins and they said they used a constant flow of propane to get it to start which in turn started it sucking fuel. It ran once after that then stopped again. Apparently I ran it down too close to where the generator gas line is on the tank and it ran dry again. Great use of $200.

Called them today and they will not offer any assistance and want it brought back in to take more of my money for nothing.

So that said, anyone here have any experience with this? I'm desperate at this point. All I want to do is figure out how to get it to start/suck fuel in again so I can at least repeat whatever it was they did to get it running.

 I have zero mechanical experience and can't find any help for this one on Youtube either.
