If you don’t mind staying about 30 miles east of Yuma, there’s a nice Passport America associated park called Copper Mountain. It’s out in the middle of nowhere so not a good stop if you need to shop in Yuma, and may be too far east depending on where you are going in California. I don’t know if they have pull-through sites, I’ve only stayed in their back-in ones, which are huge, much wider than normal. It’s typical desert, no trees. I’ll be there tonight and tomorrow.

Otherwise there are tons of campgrounds in Yuma, but haven’t stayed at any of them. There’s an Encore Park that looks really nice, I’ve driven past it occasionally. I’m going to be staying with a friend of mine there (he has full hookups) from the 18th-21st, I’ll do the trip up to Vegas in 2 days.

I think we're going to boondock for just the one night. Vibin' & Drivin' (You Tube channel) has a list of their favorite free campsites & one is just west of Yuma.

  2. Looks like your right in front of us. We just spent 2 nights at Davis Mtns State Park and heading to Las Cruces today. We will stay in LC 3 nights, then one night each at Picacho Peaks SP, AZ and then somewhere in Yuma before heading onto CA.

I highly recommend the Boot Camp. We did it in Nov '18 at Livingston & learned a ton.

Maybe we'll catch up in Qsite.!

  3. Hey guys! Just wanted to check in & see what everyone's plans are. Is anyone going to be in Quartzsite in Jan? And the Escapade in WY in June? We will be doing both & would love to meet anyone who's around!

We left Houston this morning, headed for California to see DH's dad for Christmas, south of LA. Will head out from there after the New Year and wander around, aiming for Q'site around the time of the tent show. Plan on wandering around the Southern desert Southwest for the winter. Oh yeah, gonna be in Tucson for the Escapees Hangout in early Feb.

The beginning of full-time life has been great! We left Houston Sept 1 & headed to Red Bay AL, to get punch list work done on our new rig at the Tiffin factory. Spent 2 1/2 weeks there waiting for, and then getting the work done. But we met lots of fellow Tiffin owners & had fun trading stories. We will likely head back there in March before our warranty is up

After that, we wandered to East visiting family we don't get to see a lot of. We went to Chicago, Cincinnati, Pittsburg, DC, HamptonVA, AshevilleNC, Atlanta, and Destin before heading back to Houston for a month to take care of med & financial stuff. Took our toad up to Tulsa to see fam for Tgiving. Kind of weird being in a S&B for a week after sleeping in the Chrysalis every night since late May. We missed her.

But now we're back on the road again & I'm so excited! Hope to see some of ya'll in person!

  4. Re: Memorizing numbers

I use Google Keep quite a bit to save that kind of stuff. I have one note with all our car (RV, toad, daughter's car) plate numbers with year make & model. Another with the access code for our storage unit, another for RV stuff like cabinet measurements, bike lock codes, and so on. Also put grocery list there & things I eventually need/want to buy.

Thank you Kirk for the continued input into our class of 2019 thread.

I just learned something from your post - about it being a good idea to do a partial tax return to your old state.

We are arriving in Livingston the first of December to finalize our domicile. I'll make sure to do an 11 month tax return for Missouri from where we are moving. And then a state return for Texas on that last month.

    Mark

Good idea on the 11 month return in MO, Mark. But can't file one in TX cause NO STATE INCOME TAX!!!!!😄😄😄😄 (Not laughing at you, just celebrating that fact.) But Escapees does recommend filing an intent to domicile in TX to help break those ties.

Is anyone from this class going to Escapade? I’m on the fence, I love Wyoming, and I think it would be a fun event. But another camping group I’m involved with has a rally the same weekend in Oregon.

What to do, what to do? I can’t make up my mind!

Hoping to see some of you in Quartzsite this winter. Now that I’m really house-less, I’ll be getting an LTVA permit and will be spending a certain amount of the winter there.

We registered for Escapade in WY last week!

Also plan on being in Quartzsite for at least a little while in late Jan/early Feb. Our plans are very fluid after Jan 3 as of this time.

The Class of 2019 looks like it's going to be a good one. We are Class members of 2008 and one of the best things we did was have a graduation and mortgage burning ceremony at Quartzsite the following January. That let us meet a bunch face to face to tighten the bond of being classmates. The method is simple: 1. pick a date that will let most of you attend, 2. the first ones there pick a site big enough for all of you, 3. post the coordinates of that site to your classmates. (The mortgages we burned were not the real ones but the symbolism was great!)

    Linda Sand

I, too think it's a great idea! We plan on being in the L.A. are for Christmas and haven't made plans beyond that, so it shouldn't be hard for us to make it to Quartzite in January!

Moved into our RV the end of May & put our house on the market. The pic is from our first weekend trip after getting our RV in April. Our house has sold & closes in 3 days! My DH Bruce is retiring at the end of August and we will be off! So ready to travel!

UPDATE: House sale went fine, so we are houseless, but not homeless!  Loving our RV life, other than the heat in Houston! Our college daughter came & stayed with us for 3 weeks & left this morning. We were concerned about having 3 adults & 3 dogs in the rig full-time, but she loved the RV, said it was comfy & the life was fun!  It greatly helped that we have a bunk over the cab of our class A. We put curtains up so she could block off the bunk & have her privacy.

Hubby retires next week, and we plan on leaving here Sept 1 for FT travel! Still rearranging stuff, but not sure that will ever change.
