Hey everyone, just wanted to give a quick update on our progress. The mother in law had neck and back surgery a few weeks ago and her mobility is improving quickly. She wants to go back to Phoenix and live with my wife’s brother like she has been doing the last couple of years.

We have just a few things left to do on our house, which we should finish up next week. Signed the listing agreement this past Thursday. Realtor thought the place looks amazing, her word not mine, and thinks it will sell fast.

So hopefully we will still make the class of 2020! We’ll be happy dancing for sure...haha.🕺🕺💃💃

Hello there! I just came across this and decided that I need to join! Bob and I (Louise) are selling the house in September and becoming full timers. Yikes! We’ve done two 6-7 month winter trips in a row and never missed the house, and we’re itching to get back on the road only 2-3 months after returning. It’s time!

Background: Bob and I met about 10 years ago at ballroom dancing classes, we were both divorced many years. It took us 3 years to realize that we always had a lot of fun together, so we tried a date. And the rest, as they say, is history. Our second anniversary was spent in a Cracker Barrel lot, third at an RV Park in Florida, and by the time our fourth anniversary rolls around, we should be in our new domicile state of Texas!

I’ll be actively reading these discussion boards to pick up information as we go along! Cheers to all!

Louise....So nice to have you in the group. Keep us up to date on your journey to full time. Take care.....Skeet

  3. It's hard for me to believe ...But our house went on the market yesterday. We've done a LOT of work over the past year..... updating, painting, landscaping, etc. The market here has been hot....I hope it continues. After living in the house for 27 years..its strange to see it on Zillow. I haven't had a margarita in a long time...but when the house sells...I'm going to have "several".

It's beginning to look like we are not going to make the class of 2020. My wife has been in AZ for the past two weeks because her mom had a couple serious health issues come up. DW going to bring her mom back to Casper for some physical therapy and rehab.

We are still going to sell our home but not sure if we will stay in WY or move to the Phoenix area while we are being care givers to the dear mama in law.

There is always time to travel, but the mother in law is more important right now.

    Bob,

Gosh...ya just never know what life is gonna throw your way. It's got to be disappointing...but family comes first. I'm sure mama-in-law is gonna appreciate your help. About 20 years ago my mama-in-law moved in with us for 3 years until she passed. She was unable to speak for the last 2 years of her life...but we could tell how thankful she was for our help. I wish a speedy recovery for your mama-in-law and hope you'll be hitting the road in the not to distant future.   Take care.....Skeet

  5. MaxwellsAway......Welcome to the "limbo" class of 2020. Most of us are in a "holding" situation....just waiting for life to return to normal. Glad you found a place to hunker down. I'm ready(finally) to put the house on the market....but the market isn't ready for me. Hopefully....it will work out. Stay safe and take care.....

Ok all you 2020 folks, I'm late to the party as usual. 🙂 I was in the 2019 class but due to circumstances beyond my control, I did not graduate.

Long story and if your interested :

Well it seems there will be no 2019 graduation for us! :(

The plan was to keep my S&B, its a 2 family. My daughter and her family lived in the front apt and my wife and myself lived in the rear. The plan was for her to move to the rear apt (much bigger more bedrooms) and I would rent out the front to someone else. Sounded like a great plan...well you know what they say about the best laid plans!

They ( my daughter and her husband) have decided to buy a house and they close on the Dec 16th. So now I will have to wait till they are out and do what needs to be done to the front apt and put the whole shebang on the market. I don't want to be an absentee landlord and have the worries about what may/will go wrong while we are on the road. Even with a property management Co. I would not be comfortable. So with the work that needs to be done and then putting the house on the market, 2019 graduation ain't happening.

So...Congrats to all the 2019 graduates! Looks like I will have to transfer to the class of 2020.

So I did the work that was needed and put the house up for sale. Well COVID-19 enters the picture. I was figuring that NOBODY was going to come look at my house. What I did figure was I'd get it out there on the market and when all this calmed down people would start looking again.

Well boy was I wrong! 2 days on the market and lots of interest. Lots of appointments and 7 offers, all over asking. I did not count on this. Just when you think you know what is going to happen...it does not.  Scratchin' my head go figure.

Sure hope you get it sold and are able to get on the road. We were supposed to put ours on the market 4/15...but with the closures here in Washington state due to the virus....it's looking more like June 1st(I hope). Take care and welcome to class of 2020'

Skeet, sounds like you are about to wrap things up also. My wife and i are so ready to hit the road.

We have some friends from here in WY that went full time last April. They have been spending the winter in the Quartzsite area and he keeps sending me pics of his thermometer at 70 or 80 degrees, lol. I told him I'd be in AZ next winter. Wish we were there now. I'm really missing the desert today - been snowing since mid-night with 40 mph winds. All the roads are closed...nobody going to leave Casper today.

Bob... this morning my wife and I were just saying to each other .....that we would be happy to be in Quartzite this time next year. We want to spend some time near Saguaro cactuses(or is it cacti ?).....and experience those beautiful desert sunsets. Sounds good to me.....

Hi Class of 2020! My husband and I will be joining the class June 1, 2020! Sold our home a year ago and have spent the last year downsizing our belongings and researching life on the road. He is taking his job remotely and I will be doing youtube and photography (I think). We bought a 39' fifth wheel and just purchased a Ram One ton dually diesel. We are getting so excited! So much to do, but can't wait to take this life changing journey! We just joined Escapees/Xscapers and look forward to meeting new friends on the road!

Welcome Good Life Highway! Sounds like you wish you could go full time tomorrow.  At least you've got the house sold...the downsizing of the belongings can be eye opening. We keep wondering how can 2 people can acquire so much..and then sell it for so little(or donate it). I was ready to go full time 10 years ago.... but my wife has been ready for about 2 years...and now....she's even more excited than I am. We too want to "get on the road" and hope this time next year we're in Arizona. Please keep in touch and let us now how you are progressing on your June 1st goal.

  10. Bob...your progress sounds like mine. A couple more weeks of work inside and maybe 2 weeks weeding, pruning and sprucing up the property to make it look pretty. Still shooting for no later than April 1st to list it. Hang in there..

Hey everyone, just a quick update on our progress. The renovation project on our house is coming along well. Finished up the second bathroom. Haven't had many weekends to work through the holidays and Jan.

Between dinner with each of the kids & spouses, my daughter just having twin girls about 10 days ago - all are doing fine, one of the babies will go home from the hospital today or tomorrow and the other later this week - and oldest granddaughter's hi school basketball games, we just haven't put many hours in on the house. Only have a bit left to go on the kitchen and some baseboard throughout the upstairs and the inside will be done!

Still have a bit to finish up on the exterior paint - weather put a stop to that last fall - and a bit of landscaping and all the outside projects will be done. Still on target for listing the house sometime in March. Sounds like the residential housing market is starting to pick up a bit here in Casper from what two different realtors have told us in the past week.

    Fingers crossed...

Hi all we are closing on our house second week of February so we will be full timers on February 14 and heading to Tennessee for a month in April. Going to order our hdt in February and domicile in South Dakota.

    Danandfreda

Congrats on the house closing. We've been looking at class a's...and sometime in 2020(when the house sells) we'll become residents of SD too! I bet you're getting excited!

Hey Skeet like the others have said, thanks for starting the class of 2020. We too were planning on being in the class of 2019, but a couple of remodeling projects on the house to get it ready to sell turned into a major renovation of the entire house - long story, haha.

Anyway, we hope to have the house on the market by end of March and be on the road late in the year. I promised my employer I would stay till the end of Sept. He wants me to stay another 2-3 years, (good feeling), but we are ready to get on the road!

CasperBob.....Welcome ...it sounds like you're rarin' to get on the road. I have some minor touch ups to go on the house(been doing major projects since April). And..once winter is over... hope to put house on the market by middle of March.

Keep in touch...and keep us updated on your progress.

Well Hello Class of 2020. The Wife and I will be joining ya'll next year. Currently we live 8 miles from Bastrop Texas near Austin. I am retired, Wife will next year in Sept. We will put the house on the market in spring and hope to have it sold before May. Still have to get rid of a lot of stuff yet but we are working on it. We are not new to RVing just will be new to the fulltime lifestyle. We  purchased in February a new fulltime living capable 37 foot 5th wheel and new 1 Ton truck to pull it. We will live in the RV here till Sept then travel up to Northern Indiana and Ohio where the rest of the family lives. Just after the Holidays 2020 will come back to Texas for the winter. Most likely winter in the Bastrop area since  we have lived here 17 years, have lots of friends here and there are now some 30 RV parks in and around this area. Winters here are not bad cold wise. Last night got down to 29* but this afternoon its supposed to get up to 62*. We really also love the Gulf Coast and Galveston Island and will probably share winter time there also. We will keep our Texas residency. Have the Class A Non CDL Texas drivers license already. We recently made a camping trip to Livingston to check it out and got the grand tour of the mail facility. Also did the SmartWeigh while we were there. We will get the paperwork done and transition our residence to Polk county.

We are members of the Escapees Alamo Texas Chapter and attend their Rally's.  Our Rally's are centered around the Texas Hill Country. They are great fun and we have made some good friends with this group.

We have Escapees membership stickers on our truck back window, if you see us stop by and say hello.

    Steve & Tami Cass

Welcome Steve & Tami...Nice to have you join the rest of the 2020 class. It sounds like you have everything planned out ..and you have a quality truck and fiver. We haven't yet decided where  to domicile.... in SD or Texas. Our son and granddaughter live near Dallas...we'll be spending a couple months a year with them...so leaning towards Texas. We haven't spent any time on the Gulf coast...but sure want to some day. Keep in touch.......Skeet

Hey Skeet!  Glad you started this thread.
I just purchased my Mini Max the other day.
I'll be housesitting and doing some 'test-runs' in my camper during Nov and December to do a run of the systems and pack/organize my belongings. How do you fit a life into 16'?? And, work full-time?
It's all fun so far with the planning. And, I do love the minimalist lifestyle.

I'm based out of Colorado for now, but will most likely change my domicile at some point.

Looking forward to learning about everyone else's plans and how you're getting the ball rolling.
    Thanks!
    Michele

Hey Michele...Thanks for joining and hope to hear more from you as you get closer to the start of your journey. I'm still working on projects around the house and property. I should be done with the all the major upgrades by Xmas...then when winter is over...I can put the house on the market. Hoping for an early spring(so is my real estate agent) DW and I want to get on the road! Wishing you the best during your test runs. Keep us posted how everything is coming along.

    Take Care

  16. Thank you Linda   I guess I started the Class of 2020..  My DW says I'm only good at starting trouble....I hope she's wrong....this one time😊. I was in the class of 2019...but life got in the way. So now.. the house goes up for sale the first of march 2020. In the meantime...we'll be looking at motor homes and spending Thanksgiving and Xmas with our son and granddaughter in Texas.

We've been in our house for over 26 years...and even though we love where we live....we don't enjoy all the work(5 acres) like we used to. We live in SW Washington state and we get about 65-70 inches of rain and sometimes a lot of snow every year. The winters are wet, gray, long and gloomy.  We would like to chase spring like weather year round and see as much of the U.S. and Canada as possible.

I've been reading this site and and others..since 2007..and I've learned a lot. But..I know once we're on the road....I'll really get an education.

I hope I don't get too lonely in the Class of 2020.

The fact you had enjoyment out of use of a piece of property is an excellent way to view it.  One book I read regarding organizing and downsizing was written around that entire premise. When you pick something up ask yourself, does it give me joy or happiness?  If not, throw it out.

We are going to start off by renting a 5x10 storage unit which is about the size of our current hall bathroom. That's making the downsizing a little easier. We are going to take one box of more valuable keepsakes to our daughter's house. And there are a couple things we are not sure yet if we will want to take on the road. My wife and I decided the cost of this small unit is worth it to us, despite the value of the items being stored. We are getting a climate controlled unit because of artwork and such. After the first year we will re-evaluate the storage unit. Being a smaller unit it will not be hard to dispose of. I suppose we could view the cost of the unit as a form of insurance.

I'm also keeping a couple boxes of stuff to place on Ebay later, when I have time. I personally think it will be fun to sell stuff on Ebay. So I'm not putting anything in the sale box that's worth less than $50 nor anything I can't put in one of those pre-paid smaller boxes from the Post Office.

When I was pricing stuff to sell at our latest garage sale I often found myself thinking it was not even worth the price to clean it up and move it to the garage.  But --- the real payoff was seeing spaces open up in the house.  Should have downsized our crap a long time ago regardless. We have a growing account where we are stashing the money regardless. And are not spending it on anything until we hit the road

When my father passed away he had probably the largest collection of telegraph keys in the country. He had at least one of every key ever built in the USA and was working on those from foreign counties. This included a couple off a famous German U-boat and a sunken British ship. He even had an entire setup of an old Western Union Telegraph shop.  My mom donated it all to museums. I'd hate to write how much all that was worth (dad kept a cataloged of values). And my wife did the same when her dad passed away with his collection of old radio station and music recording stuff.

If you have not tried it, you might bundle all your Red Wing stuff up into one sale item rather than trying to sell it off individually.

I sold an old truck, old boat and a hot tub by pricing it at 1/2 of what they were worth on Craigslist. Ya, would have been nice to get more for each but the money was no more important than just getting rid of it. The truck went to a young boy for his farm and was his first vehicle. The boat went to an older man who had time to fix it up and take his grandson fishing.  Priceless..

Having deciding in 2014 that our future would be in an RV, we stopped buying stuff. That has saved us a bundle for sure.

    Mark

Mark...it sounds like you're getting rid of stuff and on schedule. I've still got a lot to do... but plan on putting the house up for sale  June 1st. My wife has had a few health setbacks..nothing life threatening...just slowing her activity to a crawl. We're hoping by Spring she'll be back to normal.

I've been selling stuff on craigslist, etc. and been taking loads to Goodwill. Every time I carry a box out..I say "Only a few hundred to go..." It's amazing how much crap two people acquire during a lifetime. Best wishes to you & your wife in 2019.

  18. CasperBob...Welcome to Class of 2019. Like you I'm working on the house...should be done with the exterior by middle of September. Then.. remodel 2 baths and kitchen, paint the interior, new carpet in 3 bedrooms...and on...and on. Hope to put on market 1st of May 2019.

Keep us informed on your progress..and best of luck to you.

  19. Welcome Wayne...hope everything goes smooth in your transition to full time rv life. I worked with a guy who owned a Carri-Lite. He gave me a tour of it about 8 years ago...what a beautiful, well built rig!

I'm in the midst of doing a ton of work on the house. I won't be able to put it up for sale until spring 2019. I wish I was outta here 7-8 years ago.  I know what you mean about winter...I want to find 70 degrees.and sunny for the rest of my life.

Take care & keep us informed on your progress.

  20. Mark, I live in SW Washington state...about 35  miles north of Portland, OR. Real estate prices started going insane here about 16 months ago. I'm hoping it'll still be a sellers market in spring of 2019.

The falls rains should start here soon...so that means about 40-50 inches of rain .....between Oct to April. It's green year round...but ya sure pay for it. The summers can be wonderful ..I only used my AC in the house ...about 7 days this year.

We plan on chasing 70 degree weather when we fulltime. We're not as tough as you Kansas people...when it comes to heat/humidity

If you've never been out this way....you should put it on your list. Lots of mountains, streams and the ocean is only about 90 minutes away. If you want to experience temps in the 70's in August... the Washington coast would be the place to be.  I'm starting to sound like I work for the state vistors bureau. Take care......

  21. I might as well join the class of 2019.  DW and I retired  in our 50's... in 2008. I've been reading this site (and many others) since 2007. We are hoping to put the house on the market spring of 2019.  Gotta huge amount of work to do on the house before then.....but are determined to plow thru it.

We both had jobs in the transportation industry...I had a delivery area in 5 states and my wife is a retired railroad conductor. We love seeing whats over the next hill and are excited about 2019.

We have tent camped, backpacked and rented motorhomes in the past. We are planning on purchasing a class A in late 2018/ early 2019.
