  1. Another very sad day for us. About 3 months ago we had to put our big dog Megan down. Today we had to put our long haired dachshund Harley down. She was almost 14. She hadn't been doing well for a few days so we took her to a vet. They did x rays and she had a lot of cancers in her as well as an enlarged heart. Sad to lose a furkid again so soon. We'll meet again at the Rainbow Bridge.

    Jeff

Sorry to hear of the loss of your fur kids.

  2. Thanks again guys for all of your support. Debated even posting our latest woes as I'm beginning to sound like a broken record. Made it to Patterson, CA yesterday but, it sure was a nervous ride! Been towed twice and Lynn says that if it happens again she's ready to get a train ticket to who knows where. LOL

The 2nd motel in Yuba City was much better but, we went to their bar to grab much needed grub and brews and started chatting with a couple young gals. After we left, Lynn told me that she was sure they were "working girls". Man, I didn't pick up on that but, couldn't hear their entire conversation. A foursome would have killed me anyway...ha!

I'm beginning to see a pattern on the problems with the Beav...Most seem to be related to bad electrical connections, etc. due to corrosion? Probably because the rig spent it's life in wet Florida. Another reason to stay in the dry West!

Looking at the SKP park near Coarsegold, CA after the Hydro replacement. Need to sit for a week or two and catch our breath.

Sorry to hear of all your troubles but quit being a FL hater. LOL!

I feel your pain. Every "new" RV or boat I ever had required a couple years of sorting out to get everything squared away. The more features it has, the more opportunities for sorting there are. Hang in there. It'll pass.

  3. Thank you everyone! Guess I got a little shook up when all this happened so fast. The encouraging words helped us both. Got a buyer for the wife's car today. Will move the fiver into position for loading tomorrow. Now for the decision making "take it " or "leave it". Going to go through the "stuff". I don't want to get too heavy! My GCVW is 23,000 lb. Last time I weighed was 18,800. My

goal is to keep it under 20,000. I'll weigh it on the way out of town. Hopefully in a couple of weeks. Thanks again ya'll. Ron and Linda

Parting with 30 years of "treasures", some as much as 50 years since I moved them from TN to VA, was the hardest part for me. Eventually it became liberating. I still ended up keeping too much crap and "tossing" things I needed/wanted later.

The best move I made was finding a guy in my area who cleans out homes. He actually paid me to haul my crap away and left my basement, garage and shed "broom clean".

    Good luck!

  4. Congratulations on the sale Ron and Linda. That's the fastest closing I've ever heard of.

Ya'll will be fine. The thing I like best about the FT lifestyle is if there's something about my situation I don't like, there is tremendous ability to change it. Good luck and have fun on your adventure!

  5. Charley, one day we can get together and go ride. I have an old Kawasaki in storage near San Antonio. Let's ride the Hill Country in Texas. I've had it for 30 years. I do miss riding but I know where it is and I'll get back to it one day. She's all original too.

You're on Jeff! Want to get West soon. I remember the Z1. Awesome bikes in their day. Still very cool.

Here's a link to my "new" '03 in black.

Congratulations to you both on the anniversary!

  6. Just had a great time meeting Roadhouse Charley and his lovely wife Deloris, Charley has been trying all week to set a date to get together but things kept getting in the way. Well today Janice and I a decided to go to a local Apple festival. Jeri- Washington is not the only place that grows apples. We had just got there when I got phone call from a Virginia number. I answered it and it was Charley, they had just arrived at the Apple festival also with their in-laws. We meet in front of a bunch of antique tractors (probably some Lee had driven when new)and talked for a while. Paul and Sue did not get talked about at all. We don't know where we are going to be this winter but Charley and Deloris plan on being in Fla. It was great to meet Charley and Deloris after reading their posts. Great catch Paul and Sue for getting them to join the group.

    Jerry and Janice

Glad we were able to finally meet up. Hope to see ya'll in FL this winter but will definitely catch up again in TN next year.

  7. I keep trying to get him to come out here. Maybe I should work on Deloris instead!

Can't complain though- we met them in FL a few years ago and did enjoy their company!

and Charley, I thought you have all kinds of family in TN where you can store all the stuff you bought!

Come on Charlie, take one for the gipper! Besides the cranberry juice is vintage out here!!

Couldn't get the "MultiQuote" to bridge the pages...

I do want to get to Q but I'm not seeing it anytime soon. I also think the West has a lot more to offer than FL in terms of things to do. I do have a couple other excuses besides the weather for an extended stay this year in FL. My Bride is starting Phase II of some long term dental work and needs to stay put for a while. She also wants to work through the winter. Staying put is a good match for that too. We'll eventually get to Q...

I have places to leave my treasures but I really prefer to have them with me. I'll let you know how the big trailer works out.

  8. Charley, You really should skip the boat ride for now and come out to meet all of the gang at Q. They're a great bunch and the West has so much more to offer than Florida IMO! Great scenery and lots to see and do for little cost or free! Some of my old friends wondered why I wasn't sending anymore pics when we were in FL last winter. I told 'em that there's nothing to photo and you can only take so many pictures of the ocean!

Hurry out asap...miss you guys and your deep fried critters!

    Roger

Sorry guys. I'm a cold weather wimp. I gotta stay warm and it's getting too cold here in TN. We head to Bonita Springs, FL at the end of the month.

  9. Charley,

When the heck are you two coming out west??

on second thought, Its ok....I am mad at you for making my husband jealous by buying the bike!

He made sure I saw the pics of it ! :)

Hey Soos. I can hope for a trip out West next spring but it's really just a hope. There seem to be more and more moving parts in my life. I foolishly thought it would go the other way. Realistically it'll probably be a few years before we can spend any significant time out there. might try to do a dash to the Northwest and a cruise/train/bus tour of AK next year or the year after. can start seriously planning the Spring and Summer sometime in November.

Next time I talk to Paul I'll tell him the bike is NO FUN AT ALL. LOL!

  10. You need to get out and explore more of the good ol' U.S. of A. Charley. LOL!

Just a couple of weeks ago I was in 100 degree temps in Big Bend National Park, Texas. As Roger says you have the wheels come on out and see the USA. How you doing Charley?

    Jeff

Florida is part of the USA! LOL!

Gonna summer in familiar territory. TN, VA & WV. Exploring the rest is gonna have to wait until at least the Fall and probably next year.

came close to having armadillo stew in your honor Jeff but it wasn't quite fresh enough. LOL! Otherwise doing great!

  11. My tool pouch consisted of a small flashlight, 6 way screw-driver, crescent wrench, needle nose pliers, and wire strippers. I'll bet I was able to maintain 90% of all malfunctions with just these tools! Anything major, these tools removed the culprit for delivery to the work bench.

    Welcome to the forum!

I did an install trip and decided to minimize my tool kit one time. It was a disaster and scarred me for life. We travel heavy. LOL!

  12. Man, it finally happened...since we've been in Florida we've had multiple times where an ambulance would show up at our campground. Yesterday afternoon I was sitting outside when I heard someone yelling for help. I ran to the rig next door to find that our neighbor's husband was lying on the floor. Thinking that he may have had a heart attack I immediately got Lynn who knows about such things. She went in and started chest compressions and we took turns doing that till the paramedics arrived. Lynn told me that he appeared to have already died before we got there but, that we had to try if only for the poor wife who was a mess as you can imagine.

I was very proud of Lynn for the way she took charge and tried to console the wife after the paramedics took over. It's too bad that we couldn't have gotten to him earlier as I'm now 0-1 for all that CPR training that we got at work. But, at least we tried.

The widow's children drove straight from Mississippi last night and I see that they're now here. Very sad.

We're supposed to close on our motor home today but, that seems trivial. Enjoy life now because you never know.

    Roger

As time goes by I'm sure it will help the widow to know that ya'll did everything you could. Good that ya'll were there to help.

  13. 6 months in one place is a loooooong time if you can move around. We're planning on the southwest next year before our Baja trip next Feb. Boondocking, Q, and campgrounds not one place too long. Lots of neat places and cities out east but we may not be back until 2016.

    Jeff

6 months is a long time. We'll see how it goes. It takes at least 2 weeks for us to really get the feel for an area. A month seems ideal. All the discussion of frozen pipes on the forum is gonna keep me in South FL at least 4 months out of the year.

We may do a trip out West in the Fall of 2014 but it's more likely to be late Spring or Fall of 2015. Hope to see you then.

  14. Hey Charley, what's up? Suppose to start warming up tomorrow but not nearly as warm as you. Going to extend our stay here a few days because of the storm then heading south to the gulf coast. Yes it was too early to be this far north but we wanted to see this part of Georgia before we head west. See you out west this summer? Later.

    Jeff

Are you seeing any of it when you're snowed in? LOL!

Had an intention to do a Southwest loop this late Spring/early Summer but other obligations are going to take me to TN in mid May and keep me there for the majority of the summer. Thinking of committing to 6 months in FL next year. After seeing all the cold weather in the rest of the country this year I'm thinking it's a really good idea. The 6 month rate works out to be about $17/night. Big resort with lots of things to do. Not exactly seeing the country though. Maybe next year.
