Then we remembered we had friends returning from the Choo Choo Bus Rally that were benind us. So we called them and they picked it up and will have it here tomorrow. Whoot!! we were in oour PT Conv. having been visiting our son @ Ft. Campbell. Last pcs. of furniture to finish the interior renewal. This one is a new one made for one of the now defunk mfg. of high end MH. Pics to follow.

With the blacktank, toilet setup finished we can finally get to work on a bit of electrical. Got in the cables we need, just need to pickup the box and odds-n-ends. Sure is nice to have a working toilet/tank system. Sealed up a leak that showed up in the air vents thomas puts on top of their buses. grrr darn vent.

Kind regards

I spent the day talking with the state tag office making sure I could get the registration transfered. Apparently the title I had had been filled out wrong by the clerk that typed it up. Now I am waiting for a proper title to get signed over to me. So the bus is stuck until I can get the regisrtation fixed and properly tagged. Luckily it is already registered as an RV so I won't have to much of a headache. The state DMV office already says their copies are correct but I just have to wait for them to proccess the request to get the proper title.

Good news is I talked to my mechanic and the bus is in great condition. I got a discount on labor since I could let him take his time working on it and give other vehicles priority. He even got me a great deal on a couple new tires to replace the 2 that were showing wear.

Changed the oil in the Perkins powered Kohler 12.5 genset. The last time it had to come out of the 'hole' I did not get the exhaust gasket on both bolts. SOOO I have a mess of black wet slobber. No good paperwork on the motor but I drained the oil into a bucket to measure the volume to know how much oil to buy. It is back into place and looks good. WAAAY more nasty and filthy than the big 8V71 Detriot in the rear. Plus the Perkins is a 4 stroke, you know the rep a 2 stroke has for being nasty. Anyway it is done.

Installed recmar I-beam track from Curtain-Track and made front window curtains. We had been using the cup hooks and fabrick with rings to cover the windows at night. this is so much easier and neat looking.

Getting everything stored away to head West on 11-14. will end up in Yuma till mid Jan.

You're famous... or rather, your bus is. Thanks for the pdf. I really enjoyed reading about your bus and seeing the interior pics.

BTW, what did we do to our bus (skoolie) today.... Finished installing the 1926 Craftsman mantle. We are getting stuff put in that we absolutely have to have so that we can leave. Moving to Roswell the week before Thanksgiving... toilet and waste tank is in, gas range and microwave. We will install the freezer and refrigerators this week. No hot water, no cabinets, no shower, no lots of stuff. Luckily the park we will be staying in has nice bathhouse and a laundromat right there. Bonus... no traveling 50 miles to get supplies to work on the bus! YEAH!!!!!

We plan on being in Roswell for about 2 winters and then (hopefully) heading east. It's been COLD here at nights... down to freezing. Just a warning!

WARM!!! It was supposed to get down to 29 overnight. And the high today is supposed to be 61 which is fairly nice when the wind doesn't blow. I'm not painting outside today, so the wind shouldn't be blowing!

You need to stop by the Camino Real Heritage center just north of TorC. they are having a "thing" on Saturday. We aren't setting up at it as the food cart has been shut down for a couple of weeks and we are pushing to get the bus ready to go. We were supposed to have left for Roswell yesterday. We are now waiting until after Turkey Day which we will have with the kids. So much more to do... Door took much longer (and many more trips to ACE) than we expected. Also the mantle took more time than we expected. David seems to move a lot slower than he used to and his memory isn't as good. I don't know if it's from the multiple heart attacks that one weekend or if it's from his medication. Pharmacist says it might be some of the medications.

Lorna, Sorry to hear about David's health issues. I did think about trying to get together with you folks as we were headed thru but my cousin had some health issues of his own that redirected how we spent time this trip. We did fuel up in Soccorro this AM for $3.69 / gal. Let us just say they were glad to see us stop by, 130 gallons. Enjoy your time in Roswell. LeRoy

What did I do on our bus today? Absolutely nothing. Still stuck in Socorro (stayed over to have Turkey day with the kids... we are sure moving slow on this). Since we were pulling out tomorrow, it snowed! So Thursday??? I'm watching road conditions on the NMRoads website

Hey guys, just left a note about the class c question and thought you had moved by now. but I see you are snow bound and down for the count. I do not feel so bad for us out here in Yuma with a 37 overnight and wind. take that anyday over your blizzard. Wool socks and slippers, stay warm.

Drove the bus to Roswell, NM! We have finally changed locations. You remember that picture I posted on Dec 5th? We STILL had some of that snow on the roof when we got to Roswell this morning!

We didn't add insulation! All we did was coat the roof with Henry's Solar-Flex elastometric roof coating. The Blue Bird company put some good stuff in the walls and roof. After owning an Eagle and then this Blue Bird, we think the Blue Bird is built much better. But I do miss those huge bays!

Today... I pulled my 2 ft Christmas tree out of it's deteriorating box for the first time since we came out here and set it up. It's twinkling away on top of the engine cover. I tossed the box.

finally decided to start my switch to Lithium storage Cells.

this is a link to the discussion about the batteries

there have a higher voltage per cell. so 4 cells are the same 12 bolts. the are a couple of big differences. they are smaller and they cost about $350.00 per cell or 1600 for 12volts.

why do this

I am crazy LOL No

These batteries have over 5000 cycles so the price works out

I am converting to electric and the final battery bank will be 450 Volts. The Genset for now is a converted 5KW generator to alternator. Have built a 10KW inverter to drive the House n AC.

once I get the hardware to mount the 100kw Alternator onn the back of the Engine. will mount the Electric Drive to the Power train.

upgrading the bus running lights for LED. this includes the headlights.

I have the single unit High/low beam.

putting in CanBus box to control the LEDs to replace the high/low beam.

it work on Pulse width modulation.

this way power is routed directly to headlights and a control signal is used to change light on/off and brightness.

Well we pulled into a friends place 12-31-11 to do some work on Liberty. And work we have raised the suspension as much as we had adjustment to do so, then we remover the radiator to put on a new fan bearing assmbly, put Jakes brakes on the left bank. ( the r. side will req. more parts and time), That was the end of week one. Then we started trying trying to find radiator gaskets. as we found out when removing the radiator the mounting bolts were too long and touched the tubes. After 2 attempts to repair the thing our friend has loaned us a radiator from one of his Eagles till we can get something else for ours. Then Anne and I went to eat Mex. food. Last night w took our friends out for an allyou can eat buffet at a casino in Laughlin. After church tommorrow we are headed down to Quartzsite to a combined bus rally and to catch up with several friends who are out in the desert.

Just finished a mini-project in my van conversion transformation. Over the last two weeks I created and installed a 'hidden' extension shelf under my bed. All cherry hardwood and some cherry ply.

Look here to see the details.

My website describes the conversion of my Dodge B-250 van into a small RV. I deal with a lot of woodworking, but hope to be quite specific on solar as well.

After finishing the pull-out shelf under the bed, I’ve been quite busy working on the rear doors. I already removed the fabric covered panels and decided to replace them with built-in cabinetry. There is only 3″-4″ depth available, but every little bit of storage counts in a van.

As you can see, the cabinet itself is almost finished.

I’m working on the driver’s side rear door, but the other rear door needs one too. To finalize it, I need to create two new fabric covered panels. I haven’t yet decided on the updated fabrics, however they have to be ordered a.s.a.p.
