Keeping in touch-Class of 2006

Recommended Posts

Hi all you Vegas bound folk...when we drove out to Las Vegas Bay and Boulder Campgrounds, we noticed several class A's and fivers backed in at an angle in the sites. Oh yes, there are 5 or 6 pull-thrus, too. I guess you will need to see for yourselves if it will work. Unless you don't mind driving 25 miles to get to a slot machine; maybe Sam's Town, Road Runner or Arizona Charlie's RV parks might be better. We've about used all our nickles up icon_rolleyes.gif ; so, we are going to Boulder Campground ($5/nite) on March 6th when our time is up here at TT. We are able to angle in to the site and still have room for the truck on the side. We'll see ya wherever you decide to set up. icon_cool.gificon_wink.gificon_razz.gif

Hey John & Maureen---When you get to Vegas, let us know where you are camped. We might ride up to Boulder Beach later in the week to see if we think we can fit. If we do, I'll let you know. We are now at Katherine Landing on Lake Mead and it's really nice, the only drawback is there is no cell phone or aircard service.

Two Hams in a Can---Sorry we missed you. We got here on Saturday and you were already gone.

Hey Rick & Carol...sorry we missed you, too. Puzzleing about no cell or aircard...our T-Mobile was full bars on both. As for Boulder Beach, there is no cammpground there...just a LOT of beach; since the water is so low! You have to be 1 mile south at Boulder Campground for RV camping. It's as nice as Katherine Landing. Hope to see you then. icon_cool.gificon_wink.gificon_razz.gif

It will now be the 9th before we can get there, so we may miss you guys. We may just stop at Sam's Town and ride out on the 10th. We'll see what happening at that time. Bummer.

Are RV's allowed to cross Boulder Dam on Hwy 93? We've heard it was best to avoid it.

Hi guys, Just a note to all of you going to Vegas. 2 places to put on your list Red Rock Canyon(on yuor way back, check out the NEW Red Rock Casino) and Valley of Fire. A great place for Seafood Buffet $14.99 three nites a week is the Fremont Hotel downtown on Fremont St. Most nights and all weekends downtown has a lot of Free stuff happening under the canopy there.

Oh, by the way, its 88 here today and we're thinking Mexico for the 08 reunion.....just a thought icon_cool.gif....DAVE&TONI

Wow. We are not in the right sync. We will miss the get together at Lost Wages. And we missed John and Maureen --- by the way, great location Palm Springs! The temps last week were some of the best in the country. Congratulations, new Californians. And Mike, you will enjoy being a member of Western Horizons. Have fun with them icon_smile.gif

The Date Festival was fun, wasn't it? Hope you got some of the free food and the free dates. I was amazed by the ostrich races. We won tickets to the National Date Cook-Off on April 29. If anyone wants 'em they are yours. We aren't planning to return from Stockton Escapade to attend. All you can eat of the best chefs' creations at a nice (free parking) casino.

We headed down to the beach. How strange is it to pay $25 for a spot on the sand with the Pacific waves washing in and still be "CBing"?! Silver Strand State Beach is south of San Diego. Now we are over the mountains from Palm Springs at Jojoba Hills SKP Co-op Park. Beeauutiful place, even after Joshua Tree and Catalina Spa. We will be there for a month doing our business. If anyone comes up/down I15, please let us know so we can meet!

Hey all Vegas bound folks...if you're not going to stay at Boulder Nat'l Campground; be sure to call the RV park you plan to stay at (Sam's Town, Arizona Charlie's, etc.) to see if they have space available for next week. NASCAR will be here the weekend of March 9-11; and, RV parks near the strip and on Boulder Hwy are already mostly full. We tried to get a one nighter closer in for March 11th when we see "Spamalot"...couldn't find one; or, they required a three night minimum. So, we will be at Boulder Nat'l thru March 11th. Later. . .

Hi Gail,

Stayed on the Silver Strand for 3 weeks in Dec. and loved it there. All in all thought I'd have to say that San Diego is too expensive for my blood!!

Still, my son lives there so had a great time. Even did a Pub Crawl in Pacific Beach!!!!!! (I'm too old for that stuff!)

Jeff & Suzanne

I didn't do any exploring while in Vegas...is Boulder National that much better a campground than Las Vegas Bay?? If the cell phone coverage was stronger I'll opt for Boulder next time around!!!

Mamma Mia was a fun show, see it if you can (but don't pay what I did for the seats!! The Mandalay Bay is EXPENSIVE....$7.50 for a beer!!)

I'm presently at Sharps Depot in Lathrop, CA. After my medical appointments in Livermore tomorrow I'll head up to Yuba City and hook up with Mike (Melvis!).

I'll be in the Marysville/Yuba City area of Northern California the rest of the year (except when it gets really HOT) so if you are passing through give me a holler.

icon_smile.gifGood Morning from the CA State Fairgrounds...we are gettin "ready-to-roll"...But not to the South as we had planned... icon_confused.gif

You know...This new lifestyle is great...but there is one thing for-sure, icon_eek.gif in this time of our lives...if you make plans...you are sure to need to be able to make changes on the "spur-of-the-moment"...

Our TAXES icon_mad.gif are holding us up for the moment...as we were to head South today to meet-up with Gene and Shirley in Phoenix and then head East...for a nice leasurely trip across I10...Oh Well icon_frown.gif

Then, last night they put Mike's mom in the hospital again...guess it's always something...

icon_frown.gif

So we are headed back to TT,Lake Menden close to Yuba City...

Steve and Mike...give us a holler, we will probably be there for at least two weeks...

John...THANKS FOR THE INFO ON WESTERN RV PARK! icon_biggrin.gif We called and got a reservation for Sunday, March 11th, the night we see "Spamalot"; so, we'll leave Boulder Nat'l Campground then. We may just be at Western one night...but, who knows...we hate long range planning! icon_cool.gificon_wink.gificon_razz.gif

Hi Y'all!!! Haven't had internet since we left Q and sounds like we have missed meeting up with some of you again. We have been in Phoenix area since leaving Q. I know---internet is available at library and other hotspots, but have been too busy with not-so-fun family medical situation to look for it.

We did take a week and spend at Tortilla Flats about 15 miles out of Apache Junction. What a place--loved it.

Moved to the Elks lodge in Scottsdale for another week with the family and had quite an experience. Just before 10:00 p.m. on Sun. Feb. 25 there was tapping on our fiver on the non-door side (?). After some time of this Jack went to the door to see what was going on, and there were several police officers at the front end waiting for someone to come out. (Seems they were reluctant to come to the door). Told us they "have a situation and need us to leave NOW". When we left, there was an officer at the end of our trailer on his knees with a rifle trained toward the end of the row. We were sent into the Elks via the long way around, and saw another officer using our truck for a shield and also had a rifle trained to the end of the row, and saw many other cops scattered around. We were in the Elks for less than an hour and we were evacuated to the Blood Bank next door. On the way we saw more officers on the roof of the Elks with rifles. Turns out the SWAT Team was there, as well as 8 to 10 Scottsdale police. We were in "lock down" until 3:30 a.m. It seems the fellow in space #1 (we were in #5 of 8 spaces) had been drinking heavily and flipped out. He pointed an AK47 on a couple of people from the church next door and threatened to kill them. Of course, they split, but he refused to come out and there was quite a stand down. Thank God he finally surrendered and nobody was hurt. The next morning they were searching his motorhome and had found the AK47, a pellet gun, and a shotgun inside, and were waiting for the keys to search the outside storage areas. We left for the day and never did hear if they found anything else.

After leaving Gila Bend last Sunday we arrived at RoVers Roost. Spent one night boondocking there and then moved into spot 84. Will be here until we leave on the morning of the 15th. Hopefully heading down to Tusco or Benson for a few and then towards the OK shoot out place and Bisbee area for a few.

Dave and Diane,

Be on the lookout for Duane and Louise Wegley. There are also Class of '06 who were not able to make it to Q. They left Benson this morning for Casa Grande. We had a great visit yesterday and then ran into them at the Safeway in the afternoon - so naturally after we both filled our shopping carts we went out to eat! icon_biggrin.gif

Hey everyone! We have moved to Boulder Campground on Lake Mead just outside of Boulder City. It is a NRA so only $5 a night for those of you with the Golden pass. Our front room looks out over Lake Mead, we have lots of trees and shade, and the birds are almost too noisy. Really lovely campground. We also have water close enough to hook up a hose since we bought a water thief yesterday (thanks to Steve who told us about them). We're in site 90 for anyone who's in the area. We may stay here awhile - it's gorgeous! By the way, there are many large rigs here; so, there's room for John & Maureen; and, there are even ten pull-thru sites. We are backed in at an angle with room to spare that gives us the best view of Lake Mead. And, we just found out there's free firewood nearby!!! icon_biggrin.gif

We will wait until after the Nascar race. We are at Williams today to ride the Grand Canyon train tomorrow. We plan to stop in Bullhead City for the weekend to ride the motorcycles out to Oatman.

Then we will look for a campground along Boulder Highway or up in Overton so we can see the Valley of Fire State Park along with the Dam and Vegas. (We are addicted to hookups)

Since you will be there until the 16th, we will touch base with you early next week and ride out for a visit.
