A terrible thing to happen, we were there this summer after we toured the Monaco factory in Wakarusa, just north of there. We had a bad one in Oklahoma City in May of 2003 and it took a long time to get everything rebuilt after that. The livelyhoods and stores and their customers really take a heavy hit. At least there was no loss of life in Nappanee, but it is a sobering event. Such a nice community from what we could see, salt of the earth people. Those things happen so fast, it's hard to find a safe haven in time.. Steve

Barb and Dave - we so totally understand!

Yesterday, we pulled into a friend's house east of Dallas (Quinlan) to spend the night. Jeff happened to test the hubs on the Airstream as we were getting out, and one of them almost took the flesh off his hand it was so hot!

We had just had the bearings done last December, so were a little unhappy at this! We tried to get an RV place close in to work on it; they couldn't do it. We then called an Airstream dealer about 20 miles away, they supposedly do routine maintenance, but they don't do bearings!! (How routine is that?) Finally we called the Airstream mechanic that we have always used which is in Carrollton - about 60 miles away. He said it might not be a bearing, but might be something with the brakes. When I asked him how best for us to get the Airstream to him, he told us to take the wheel off and pull it on three wheels. We thought about that for a little bit, since Airstreams will roll on 3 wheels, but thinking about Dallas freeways, we decided not a good idea.

So, we called our road service, and they are arranging a flat bed tow service to carry the Airstream to North Dallas and get her back on her feet. We had hoped to get it transported today (Saturday), but the mechanic is only open half day, so we packed up and came to our daughter's in Arlington, and we'll go back to Quinlan on Monday to follow the Airstream over. It's so weird to have our house somewhere else. We feel a little disconnected. If all works well, we should be back at home (in Mansfield) by Wednesday.

Hope you get your pump stuff taken care of and are on the road again.

Well we've made it to southern Oregon today. We're at Timber Valley Co-Op for a couple of days. The SUN was out - Shadow rolled outside on the warm concrete - - it has been a couple weeks since she saw sun. Dave and I both have bad colds, so hope I can soak up some SUN tomorrow to help these old bones.

Barb and Dave and others, it's time to be thinking about a happy hour get together (probably in the Arlington area) again this year like we did last year. Think about a time and place and post your suggestion so all of us who will be in the area can arrange to meet. We're looking forward to renewing old friendships.

We will be ready, too. Our home is currently in a repair shop in Quinlan, TX (about an hour east of Dallas) getting an axle replaced. Unfortunately, we didn't notice the brake malfunction on the right rear wheel on the Airstream until the hub & spindle were cooked well done. We are staying at our daughter's house until we hear from the repair shop; when, we will get our house back and park it at Texan RV Ranch in Mansfield. It's not far from Arlington, so we'll be at Happy Hour. We may need all the free food & drink we can get after paying for the axle!!! icon_eek.gificon_rolleyes.gificon_biggrin.gif

Howdy everyone,

We couldn't handle the Colorado night temps in the low and mid teens any longer and headed south to Sante Fe, NM, for 4-5 days. After a morning low of 15 it was nice to set up camp here south of town in the mid 60's! icon_cool.gif

We still plan on arriving in Kerrville, TX, on November 3 and hope to see some of you passing by while we are there. We will arrive in the RGV for the winter on Dec 3 and know that we will find some of you around then.

Safe travels everyone!

Hey Gordon & Juanita. . .so, by admission, you have become "Snowbirds" icon_biggrin.gif Not bad for California folks. We got some bad news about our Airstream yesterday. . .the spindle and hub on one of the axles was ruined; and, a new axle has been ordered. Since it is a custom order item, it will ship to the repair shop in THREE WEEKS!!! icon_eek.gif Then, there's the installation time; so, we are living in our daughter's stix & brix in Arlington for the next month. The good news is, we are living in our daughter's stix & brix in Arlington for the next month. If we had to have trouble, we couldn't ask for better (or cheaper) accommodations. . .it comes with two great grandkids. icon_biggrin.gif

Gordon & Juanita,

Be sure to post where you are staying in the RGV and your impressions of each community.

I'll be a week to ten days behind you in getting there. I want to stop by & visit Jeff & Suzanne (and maybe see a show) on the way down there.

AS of the moment I have no idea where in the RGV I am going to stay or even if there is room for me!!

Steve,

We'll arrive at the Encore Sunshine Resort in Harlingen on December 3 and are scheduled to stay until departure to the west on March 3, 2008. The rate decreases each month of the stay there to encourage a seasonal visit, but we have never stayed in one place for three months, so we will see how that goes.

It looks like a lot of 2006 grads will be hanging out in the RGV for some or all of the winter, so I'm sure we will get some opportunities to get together.

We are heading out for a drive along the Turquoise Trail near Santa Fe, NM, today and the weather is WARMER. icon_cool.gif

Stay safe out there!

Jeff & Suzanne,

Aren't relatives wonderful when you have to have work done and can't stay in your unit! And your situation is almost (I said almost) perfect - grandkids added in! icon_biggrin.gif Sorry about the repairs - don't you just love being told your parts are 'obsolete' and will have to be $$$pecial ordered. icon_redface.gif

The warm afternoons have been wonderful this week. Will be heading towards Sacramento on Friday - will decide whether to go to Tahoe or not depending upon weather forecasts. Should be in Texas by the end of November.

Well, for Suzanne & I, Sunday the 23rd will be an all day Christmas family gathering for us; so, since we host the event, we won't be able to be at Tree Tops. Unless it's after Christmas, we may have to miss the festivities this year since we will also have shows on Friday the 21st and Saturday the 22nd. icon_frown.gificon_frown.gificon_razz.gif

Unfortunately, Shelly and I will likely already be in AZ by mid-late December. We are currently in Delaware but only for a few weeks. Would love to get together with some of you even if we can't make Arlington.

Barb/Dave, Jeff/Suzanne - Sorry to hear about the mechanical issues. Your in our thoughts and prayers.

P.S. Melvis, is there something wrong with the Class "Frappr" location map? Seems as though all the pins are missing including ours?

We're in Sacramento this weekend at the Cal Expo park. They have an RV Park in the back. Meeting some old friends for dinner tonight and will do some sightseeing tomorrow before heading for Desert Springs on Monday. Sure feels good to be warm again.
