Keeping in touch-Class of 2006

Here we are in Williams, AZ at The Grand Canyon Railway RV Park; and, we rode The Train to the canyon yesterday. They have a package where you purchase tickets to ride The Train to the South Rim; and, you get two nights free at their very nice RV park. We both have seen The Grand Canyon before; but, as always, the first view was spectacular!!! Today, we are taking the rig up to the Grand Canyon's Mather Campground to spend six days of boondocking peace and quiet. The bad news is that we won't have any cell signal there; thus, for us, no e-mail.

The good news is "The Gilmore Girls" episode that Suzanne and I spent three days shooting will air next Tuesday, May 8th on the CW Network (old WB Network). We will leave The Grand Canyon Tuesday morning and hurry down to Flagstaff, AZ to see "The Gilmore Girls". See ya' later when we leave the "electronic black hole". icon_cool.gificon_wink.gificon_razz.gif

We're now Driveway parking at my brother-in-law's in Centralia, WA. Will be here for a few days then north to see my mother. We figure on being in the PNW until about September - depending upon our whims.

Hope to see some of you this summer as we wander about - no real plans except for finding enough caches to stay ahead of Gordon and Juanita!

Hi all,

Since we have found most of the geocaches located within 25 miles of our present location in Winchester Bay, Oregon, we are beginning a SLOW process of departure preparation, expecting to roll out on the 15th. We are awaiting the arrival of friends from CA who will join us for some of the ride up to our next destination, Eagle Nest RV Resort in Polson, MT.

We plan to spend a month in MT checking out Flathead Lake, visiting friends in Kalispell, at the National Buffalo Refuge, and at Glacier National Park. We will then move on over to Red Rock RV and Camping Park in Island Park, ID, and stay until just after Labor Day.

We enjoyed the busy week long visit from Barb and Dave at Winchester Bay and look forward to seeing other classmates down the line.

Safe travels all,

Hey Steve and Laurie,

We are not leaving the Winchester Bay RV Resort just south of Reedsport until the 15th and would enjoy seeing you again. If you get a chance to drop by, we are in space #49 on the south end of the park. Winter rates are still in effect here and there is plenty of space available if you need.

If you don't have my cell #, send me a PM and I will give it to you.

Hope to see you soon! icon_smile.gif

Gordon&Juanita,

Thanks for the info. We will stop by tomorrow.

Right now we're in Salem and, after looking around the town tomorrow morning, will head for the coast around 10:30 am or so. I figure it will only be an hour or so drive to where you are at.

No need for a space, we are on a fast trip in a car but do want to say hi.

Hello all,

We enjoyed the Stockton Escapade, our first. We met friends we had made in parks along the way and made new friends we will see down the road. We enjoyed an afternoon getting to know classmates Duane and Louise Wegley.

Next we spent a few days in Napa enjoying the scenery from our motorcycles. We made it over to the coast for our first view of the Pacific. AWESOME!

Note: The Napa Valley Expo RV Park went from $20 to $35 per night on May 1st.

We are now at the Emerald Forest RV Park in Trinidad, CA. We are camped among some huge redwoods. It looks like a great place to explore and to add a few more geocaches to our total. But there's no way we will ever catch up with Dave and Barb or even Gordon and Juanita.

Joe and Nancy,

Catching up with our geocache count may not be as difficult as you think. We will spend most of the summer in fairly remote areas with very few caches within many miles. icon_eek.gif If you get up to Winchester Bay before the 15th, be sure to look us up. The weather is beautiful here!!

Steve and Laurie,

Thanks for stopping by the park today....we really enjoyed the short visit and hope to see you down the road again. icon_smile.gif

That was quite a price jump for the Napa Expo - I'm not sure $35.00 is something we would do, no matter how 'convenient' the park is. I knew they were going to raise the rate this summer when the new area came online, but $15/night jump is awfully steep.

It isn't the number of caches you get, it is the fun of finding them. Remember that - and just don't get ahead of us! icon_biggrin.gif

Joe & Nancy--Sorry we didn't get to see you at the Escapade, we were only there for the day on Wednesday.

Sounds like there are several people in the Oregon Coast area. We are planning on being there this afternoon. Hoping to stay at Harris Beach State Park near Brookings then working our way up to Florence. Let us know some of the must see things on our way up.

Have fun everyone..

Howdy Rick and Carol,

The big thing along the OR coast from Brookings is scenery galore and seafood establishments. If you have the time, take a run out to Cape Blanco just north of Port Orford... Charleston, and Cape Arago near Coos Bay... the Umpqua Lighthouse area at Winchester Bay (we're still here)... check out Fishpatricks Crabby Cafe in Winchester Bay... Woahink Lake and Jesse Honeyman SP south of Florence... our favorite restaurant on the entire OR coast is the Waterfront Depot in Florence (Mo's is mostly "out of towners these days)...just north of Florence is Sea Lion Caves and the overlook to the most photographed lighthouse in the US..Heceta Head. Carl Washburn SP north of Heceta Head is very nice and we have stayed there many times. Further north check out the Tillamook Cheese Factory, Cape Lookout and Cape Mears, the town of Garibaldi is scenic....Nehalem, Manzanita, and Cannon Beach are all worth a visit. At the top of the state is Fort Stevens (well worth a visit) and Fort Clatsop. Astoria is also worth a stop if you have the time.

Let us know if you have further questions....we have been coming up the coast most every year for 17 years now.

Safe travels,

Gordon and Juanita,

We are paid up here until Friday, but hope to make it up there before your departure date.

When you say the weather there is beautiful, what are the highs/lows? It is H60/L40 here in Trinidad. This is still too cold for thin-blooded Floridians!!

Joe and Nancy,

Don't expect FL weather!! icon_biggrin.gif Today should be the warmest we have seen here at about 70. Normal temps have been from 62 in the day to 45 at night and a light daytime wind. Long range forecasts (whatever they're worth) show no rain for this week...we have had a lot of the wet stuff, so this is something new. icon_smile.gif

In Trinidad try out the Larrupin Cafe for ribs that will fall off the bone, and the Somoa Cookhouse down near Eureka....it's an old lumber mill cookhouse...all you can eat at community tables for a reasonable price.

Safe travels,

Gordon and Juanita

icon_smile.gifHello all...well we are close to Salina,UT...In a Flying J...a really nice one...looks NEW... icon_smile.gif

In the last two days we have out run the tornadoes in Kansas, and survuved a snow storm in Denver... icon_biggrin.gif

Those added to the rest of our first 8 months on the road gives the whole "ball-of-wax" or "weather", if you will... icon_biggrin.gif

And we are still smiling...looking forward to getting to Sacto area to help with Mike's Mom...and then get back on the road by the middle of June... icon_cool.gif

We will be heading out tomorrow morning... taking the 50, into Sacramento...another adventure... icon_biggrin.gif

Then we'll get to go to Winchester Bay...CAN'T WAIT!!! icon_biggrin.gif

Charlie,

I just did a little grass trimming around your site here at Winchester Bay...hope you appreciate it!! icon_biggrin.gif

We are pleased to hear that you got through the bad weather OK and are on your last leg to Sacto.

We're not sending any bad weather down your way, so Hwy 50 should be in good shape for you.

Thanks Gordon & Juanita! Pieces of us (shoulders, heads, backs, etc.) were in several other shots that only we would recognize! icon_rolleyes.gif It still amazes us that it took three days and one night to shoot just the graduation...less than ten minutes of the episode! And, when Loreli stood up to cheer Rory when she got her diploma, there was a highly paid actor sitting behind her telling her to sit down...and, that was completely edited out! Go figure! icon_confused.gif We left the Grand Canyon and came back to the Grand Canyon RR RV Park to watch "Gilmore Girls" since no RV parks in Flagstaff had cable so we could get the CW Network (not available on our DISH). We head to Petrified Forest/Painted Desert Nat'l Park today via Sam's Club in Flagstaff. Later guys. icon_cool.gificon_wink.gificon_razz.gif

Gordon & Juanita---WOW, thanks for all the information. I will print off the page to put in the truck for sightseeing. Sounds like there's lots to see. We are now at Harris Beach in Brookings and it's really nice, beautiful views of the ocean. If we get up to Winchester Bay before the 15th we'll try to stop by to see you. Enjoy your travels...Thanks again.
