amigirl
I'm new to rving and have some questions. What qualifies you as "Class of 2006"? What is going on at Quartzsite that everyone is looking forward to? Finally what is an SKP number? I've been reading everything I can to learn the special language of rvers. Thanks. charlie60
Welcome.............. Here are some answers: a SKP # is your personal membership # that is given to you when you join the "Escapees". The "Class" destinction refers to what year you started fulltimeing...MIke and I started 09/03/06...so we are of the "Class of '06"... Quartzsite is a town in the middle of the desert close to the CA border in AZ. There is a HUGE RV show here this time of the year...and because of that, there has grown a huge Destination Point for RVers of all kinds...some stay all winter, some a month or two or some stay simply a week like we are... One of the reasons that we were all so excited to be here was that we have all met right here on the Escapee Forum...talked to each other for as much as a year or more...now we are having the chance to meet in person and share our stories face to face...It truly has been fun... amigirl
Thanks for helping me out. I guess that makes us part of the Class of 06 as we began full time RVing on Dec 1, 2006 and love it as well. However, we are just learning as we go an there is a lot to learn. We are in Benson, AZ this week after getting stuck in Fort Stockton, TX last week due to the bad weather. Hope the tempertures continue to climb! What a great get together it has been for me in Quartzite. I truly enjoyed meeting all the '06 graduates that gathered in La Posa. Hope to see all of you again on the road. Stop by and say hello if you are down by Galveston anytime through May 15. Barbaraok
We're moving today up to Salome until Feb. 4th. We'll be at Desert Vista - got to get the dust/sand washed out of everything and get our tummies use to eating normally again. We're going to Yuma from the 4th to the 11th and then on to Casa Grande for 2 weeks. If you are in the area, give us a hollar. Loved being with everyone this past week - feel almost like we're leaving our family again. queen
We didn't make Q, but almost feel like we did because of all the great photos. Thanks so much, Gordon and Charlie. We're on S. Padre Island, TX and will be in Corpus Christi on Feb. 15 for 2 weeks. Then, I think, we're headed to Galveston. We might be able to work out a get together, Judy. This is a great idea to keep track of where folks are and I hope it keeps going. We haven't met an SKP we didn't like. Must be something in the genes (jeans?) We are in Indio near Palm Springs until departure on Sunday over to Santa Barbara. We have a real seafood deficiency that needs to be cured. We are also in the process of eradicating parts of BLM land that rode along with us. We enjoyed meeting you in Q also and expect to see you sometime down the line. Our Nephew, Dominic, met us here and we had a nice visit with him and went to the Corovette Diner for dinner...it was very good and lots of fun...but still again...we are too full ... Tomorrow...Laundry and get all the desert out of the coach and off of the coach... Last night we did have a "left-overs potluck" in "Q"...it was good and fun...just half of us left though...Hope everyone had safe and enjoyable travels...we sure did... Barbaraok
We're in Salome now - but internet service is a little spotty from our rig. I think there is someone else in the park vying for the connection with us. We drove the 5 miles down to Hope and have a better connection. We've been out geocaching - but unlike Gordon who is doing easy terrain (1s or 2s) we are tackling HARD caches in the desert. Will post pictures on the blog tomorrow. Jeff & Suzanne
We had a great campfire last night here in Q. Only about 10 rigs left with some more leaving this morning, but we're all still having fun and enjoying each other's company. Yesterday, John and Maureen, Rick and Carol, bought bags of dirt with a gold pan and came back to pan the gold. Most of us came running - "There's GOLD in them thar bags!" They both got some respectable nuggets from their bags. Tomorrow we leave for the land of casinos and long showers - Laughlin! Last night we "overnighted" at the Flying J in North Bakersfield...UCK...we are on our way this AM to Nicholas, CA and Lake Menden Thousand Trails Park...get the Dr., Dentist, & Eye Dr. stuff done... Get new tires on the Coach and the toad and various and sundary other things before we leave again for the southern part of our country. Hopefully by the last week of the month we will be headed South again It is cold and foggy this AM in Bakersfield ... Suppose to be nice in Sacto for the next week or so...hope so!!! I could get usto the weather that we had in San Diego...low 70s in the day and cool nites...it was great... Happy Trails and safe ones too... Jeff & Suzanne
For those of you who have asked (and anyone else who is interested) here is the recipe for - John Wayne's Favorite Recipe 1 lb. cheddar cheese grated 1 lb. monterey jack (or fiesta cheese) grated 2 small cans chopped green chiles 4 eggs - separated 2/3 cup evaporated milk 1 T flour salt to taste Mix cheese with peppers, put into buttered casserole (13x9). Beat egg whites till just stiff. Fold in egg yolks mixed with milk, flour and salt. Pour egg mixture over cheese and work down with fork through cheese. Bake 1 hour at 325o. You can also half this and bake in 9x9 pan for about 45-50 min. M2ToGo
RICK and CAROL - you won't believe this after we talked about it at Q, but we were able to hear Cowboy Poetry right here at North Ranch. For the big sum of $5.00 we had a chili supper and heard Poet Mike Dunn and his friend Gary. Mike is scheduled for the show you are going to. We really enjoyed it. And to all the other neat folks we were blessed to meet - we look forward to seeing you again down the road. We will be at North Ranch for the next month. We hope to do some prospecting and look for the many geocaches in the Wickenburg/Congress area. There are some great motorcycle roads north of us. We will work our way through the NW when it warms up. And YES, M2ToGo finally got a bath!! Joe and Nancy Too many roads, too little time. foggymtn
Hi all, We arrived at the Lake Cachuma Regional Park near Solvang, CA, yesterday and will spend a week (or two) here checking out the many sights in the area. If any of you are ever around here, this is a very nice park that is QUIET to the extreme. They have a good number of full hookups and the price is right at $132 per week, plus a dog fee if you happen to have a furry critter. Just up the road in Pismo Beach, the price doubles! The Santa Ynez Valley has a load of vinyards and the little Danish town of Solvang is drawing Juanita in for a little shopping. Again, we had a great time with y'all in Q and look forward to seeing everyone again.
