stinking problem

Recommended Posts

When I replaced our toilet we used the new seal that came with it. It was a donut shape sorta rubber like. It lets smell come by it. What your suggestion. I am thinking getting a wax ring.

Danco, which you can get at Lowes, has a rubber/wax combo ring which is specifically designed to keep a seal even with some floor or toilet movement. I used one in our last RV and it worked really well.

How much did it raise the toilet up?

Will know in a few days. emptied tank this morning. As tank filled smell got worse. Right now no smell. Seal I removed was just a dougnut. This one I replaced it with has a bottom flange with a rubber seal inside for toilet.

Glen, If all else fails. If your black tank vent is below the water line in the tank, like someone pushed it in from up on the roof because they thought it was loose or even wrong from the factory, that can cause just what you describe because without a vent those black tanks can generate a little positive pressure. The vents for the black and gray tanks are hard to get to in many cases but the part in the tank needs to be very near the top of the tank, and above the liquid/solid contents.

What you stated may be correct though. The entire time we have been in our Teton the toilet burbs when tank full or near full. Had to say which since sensors don't work. A new roof was installed by previous owner and dealership just cut all vents off at surface. Our black tank vent was below the roof and venting in the attic space. I lengthened it to get up above. We got an oder until I did that.

What you just described "burping" means at that level of full the black tank vent pipe is submerged. If all the rest fails, check out these videos: Here's some videos with lots of other under it about this, should solve your problem:

This will also fix many of the rigs with lots of odor from either tank and explain why.

Safe travels with less odor.

This video explains and shows what the Toilet burp is and means. If your sensors are not reading, and your black tank vent tube is installed properly, not shoved too far into the black tank, it will burp when full because it covers the bottom of the vent tube. If the vent tube is too far down into the tank it will block the vent pipe sooner and cause all kinds of odor problems.

To see it go to 5:53 in this video:

Safe,and odor free, travels!
