runaway parents
So today I thought it would be a good idea to pull the 5th wheel hitch off Our truck to inspect it service it and check for cracks in the Welds.Every thing looks great .Except the paint. What kind of paint would you use to prevent rust? ddm502001
Rustoleum products still rule there. They use a rust inhibitor in the paint. To do anything else would require blending mixing and use of air powered sprayers for a similar quality.
jenandjon
Hit it with a wire brush and rattle can it. I drive gravel roads. It's a never-ending process. I had to do it every couple years on my old trailer.
rickeieio
To be clear, you are talking bout the truck hitch? Is the original coating paint, or powder coat? What kind of hitch?

rickeieio
My non-profession opinion would be to sand everything, feathering the edges, then painting with the products suggested above. This is why I'm not thrilled with powder coat. I dealt with it for years on farm equipment.
GeorgiaHybrid
When it absolutely, positively has to stay rust free, use POR-15 paint. Just make sure you don't get any on your hands as the only way to get it off is to wear it off. That paint is what most pros use on custom frames to prevent them from rusting.
