WIFI vendor for large RV Park?

Recommended Posts

I am workamping at a large RV Park.   We are considering a park-wide wifi upgrade/replacement project.   We have about 500 RV sites, and 70+ Cabins, and currently are utilizing Vast as a wifi service provider.    Anyone have any good experiences to share with other wifi vendors that we could check out for potential replacement?   Thanks in advance.

The 200 unit co-op park I'm currently in dismantled our park wide wifi system a couple of years ago when lightning took out several RF nodes.  We looked into repairing the system but it's just too easy now for people who want to be connected to get superior service from a cellular provider instead of using park wifi.   The breaking point came when Visible offered $50 phones with unlimited hotspot data and decent speeds for $25 a month.  No way could we maintain a park wide system to compete with that.  We kept a simple hotspot in the clubhouse for people to use (it also powers the Roku TV and the app based laundry machines there) and another hotspot in the park office for staff use.

Thanks, Lou!   That is just the kind of feedback & experience we are looking for.   Others?

Sumter Oaks has very good wifi via Tengo; customers pay for access. That park is a bit unique because Verizon and Tmobile are/were very weak. But I wouldn't put much money into park wifi today because of cheap phones and service. Those who really want good internet will bring their own.

  • Phil D changed the title to WIFI vendor for large RV Park?

The park we are in has service with SkyWeb. If you want more internet than what it takes for browsing and email then you have to pay for it. SkyWeb is not the actual provider, they just provide and maintain the infrastructure. This is a series of small dishes all the park. The actual internet is Spectrum.

We have used the pay Wifi at the Thousand Trails Green Mountain Park in Lenoir, NC the past two years. There is no Verizon or AT&T signal in the section we stay in. The Wifi  is provided by Skybest. It was more than adequate for our needs. We have DTV so do not stream a whole lot.

We used the pay Wifi at the Orlando Thousand Trails this spring. It was provided by Jabba. This is a huge park (over 1000 sites). Cell service is slow to non-existent during the day both in the park and the surrounding developed area. When we first arrived the Wifi was slow until evening. After a couple of days, some rigs left and the Wifi was adequate for the remainder of our two week visit. My guess is that they were heavy users.

We tested the Tengo service at Sumter Oaks last winter and found it suitable for low level browsing and email, but lacking for sustained streaming. Our Visible/Verizon and AT&T hotspots were both fine for streaming though.

Some of the Tengo serviced parks have a data cap and it is not all that high.  Before you sign up, check the data limit.
