John C
We can light the pilot light while holding in the dial but the pilot light does not stay lit. Still unable to light the oven. Any suggestions?
oldjohnt
A bad thermocouple may well be the problem, that's the FIRST thing I'd consider after checking all the connections and plumbing. I've replaced many pilot and thermocouple assemblies over my 50 years of RVing lol They are readily available at RV dealers and Amazon and E Bay, have the make model and serial number handy..........Im speaking of she will light and stay lit as long as you hold it down but goes out on release BAD THERMOCOUPLE perhaps One other minor problem Ive seen is the adjustment/placing/distance of the flame so it isnt placing enough heat on the thermocouple which can cause that even if the tc is okay. I have carefully bent/adjusted the flame tip so it hits the TC better...The flame needs to be heating up the tc, if not or the tc is out of place or something is bent it may not hold in. I once saw a tc had come loose out of its holder and after I got it back in the right place she worked fine...... One other problem is low gas pressure, you may want to check the tank regulator etc One other problem may be the mechanical plumbing/fitting/tightness of the assembly up top of the stove One last problem Ive seen is the small thin tc tube got bent or kinked John T NOT a plumber or oven expert see what they have to say. Im sure there may be other causes the fine gents here can add to this Edited January 5, 2022 by oldjohnt
Kirk W
25 minutes ago, John C said: Any suggestions? How long did you hold the button down? It can easily take a full minute or two. If that doesn't do it then it is probably the heat sensing device which is most likely a thermal couple. Which ever it may be you should be able to see it located such that the flame of the pilot light just touches it. Quote Good travelin !...............KirkFull-time 11+ years...... oldjohnt
On many I've repaired the fix/replacement is as I said above and Kirks picture shows, you buy the entire Thermocouple and Pilot ASSEMBLY. I have seen replacement Thermocouples ONLY however. If that's your problem versus the other possibilities I noted above, you have to see what's available for your unit. The flame has to be nice n blue and directed right at the tc tip. Be careful not to kink or mash either of those fragile lines. travelinbob
Had the same problem. Planned on replacing the TC. Disconnected the nuts but the TC was secured to the back of the oven. I planned to attach the new one to the old one and pull it through into position but could not. This meant that I had to completely remove the oven to replace the TC. The oven was a POS since day one and I figured if I had to remove it then it was going to be replaced with one with a spark ignition for the oven. It was a real PITA to crawl on the floor to light the old one. I searched and only found one, a Furrion , with a spark ignitor for the pilot. No more on the floor to light the pilot, Quote 2006 Elite Suite 36TK32001 F-550 Starhaulerwww.mytripjournal.com/elitesuitestravelsIN GOD WE TRUST
Wrknrvr
If you have not replaced the thermocouple yet. First of all do not tighten the nut more than 1/4 turn when you install the old one or a new one. So if you remove the old thermocouple nut very carefully, then take a piece of cloth and polish it carefully and reinstall it. No sand paper. See if it works. As Kirk said, you may need to hold the knob for a minute to make it work. Now if you can have someone hold the knob down and the flame lit, while you test for millivolts from the center of the thermocouple to the outside of the thermocouple, you should see if there is any millivolts there. I do not know how many millivolts there should be there. You can find that on the web. My 3 cents, Vern

AMEN Vern, I've seen what happens if over tightened lol Darn Thermocouples grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr and those millivots are smallllllllll and a cheap meter may not help much !!! dmk
I'll second the cleaning of the thermocouple. I had this exact issue with my oven and after I carefully cleaned the thermocouple it has been working fine.
