RandyA Posted March 20, 2021 Report Share Posted March 20, 2021 I will be presenter for this session. It will not cover how to install an inverter in your truck. Rather, this will be an entry level presentation that focus on the types of inverters - what Jack calls "Truck Stop Inverters - actually modified sine wave vs. pure sine wave inverters. Some with a built in transfer switch and battery charger. We will be looking at the economy inverters in the 600 to 2000 watt range rather than the expensive top line offerings such as the Xantrex Freedom line. Much of the presentation will cover how an inverter works, what type of inverter works best, what problems to expect from modified sine wave inverters, what the wave forms look like on an oscilloscope, input (battery) power vs. output power, electrical basics covering DC current and AC current and their different characteristics. Different inverters will be present and working along with an oscilloscope so we can actually see what the output looks like. Hopefully, the presentation will provide basic technical information that will help you in the selection of an inverter. There will be time allowed for Q&A and discussion. My background is in Electrical Engineering, and most importantly, a HDT owner for 12 years with lots of not so successful experiences (and some that actually worked) choosing inverters for my 5'er and Volvo electrical systems. I have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19. If you are coming to the ECR I hope you will join us for this session. Without you and the other volunteers no rallies would be possible. The costs to hire an “expert” would be prohibitive and fortunately we have experts in our midst. As an aside Donna and I will be fully vaccinated against Covid. My understanding is the CDC is now saying folks that are fully vaccinated may congregate without distancing requirements and possibly unmasked. I will research this further. That does NOT mean ANY activities at the ECR will be closed to anyone, so please feel free to attend and use appropriate precautions. As I’ve said previously, I have purchased cleaning and sterilization supplies to make it as safe as possible, but participants should adhere to guidelines for the safety of others when in a closed environment. Under (or at) $500. Just FYI. LINK It has a removable/relocatable faceplate and is direct wire. Really works well for the trucks, and is what we install. I'll definitely be an attendee at this presentation, as I may want an inverter in the new truck. That said, we bought the Volvo in 2010, and I recently discovered an inverter tucked up high in a dark corner, or what we refer to as "the basement." Xantrex Freedom. So far have really liked it. I have a second new in the box for our coach if the Xantrex goes. Paid right around $500 a piece from Don Rowe Electronics. Thanks for bringing it to my attention Jack over a year ago.
