Brookrv
We are are on the waiting list for a Class B that we will not receive until September 2022. We will be using it as our second car as well as vacationing. We are new to RVing. Do we need special insurance, or can we obtain insurance from our regular car insurance carrier? Is there anything we should ask for that we may not be aware of? Thanks in advance.
Kirk W
Your present auto insurance underwriter will probably be happy to insure it. The special insurance that you see talked about here is mostly for those who live in the RV as their only home and so do not have a home owner's policy.
sandsys
While Kirk's answer is true it might not be enough for you if you have a lot of stuff inside your van. Auto insurance will simply cover the vehicle itself unless you buy some sort of rider to cover the rest. Or your homeowner's policy covers everything you own wherever it is. LindaH
One thing you will want for your brand new RV is Total Loss Replacement (TLR). In the case of a total loss during the first 5 model years, TLR will replace your RV with a new one. After the 5-year period, you'd get the price you paid for the RV -- in contrast to current market value which will be quite a bit less. It's doubtful that your auto insurance company offers this type of insurance, but ask them. If not, then you'll want to find an insurance company that specializes in RV insurance. One place to start is to contact insurance agencies such as Miller RV Insurance, Home | Miller RV Insurance. You'll want to make sure that the TLR is for a period of 5 years. When we were shopping for new insurance for our current RV (in my signature), one company we talked with offered TLR, but it was only for a period of 18 months!
